Sylvan confident stars will stay

ebanksblake2.jpgSylvan Ebanks-Blake is bristling with confidence for Wolves’ next promotion bid and is confident his fellow stars will be alongside him for the challenge.

The Championship’s top scorer is dismissing all the speculation raging around Molineux’s most coveted players, convinced manager Mick McCarthy will be choosing from an even stronger squad next season.

Those coveted include goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, midfielder Michael Kightly and Ebanks-Blake himself, the division’s top scorer with 23 goals last term.

He said: “Wolves are a big club and don’t need to sell any of their best players so I don’t think they will.

“I think that’s where it stands really. The chairman came out and said what his thoughts and ambitions were.

“That is something which filtered through the whole squad and the management staff.

“There’s probably nothing more which needs to be said. You could see from the back end of last season when we kicked on what sort of squad we have got.

“With the manager adding to it over the summer things can only get better.

“We went close and we know there’s not much that needs changing for us to get into the Premier League, where we all want to be.”

It only took a repeat of his Plymouth goalscoring form for Ebanks-Blake to receive the kind of attention that comes with success under the Molineux spotlight.

But the 22-year-old is relaxing before his return to duty next month, determined to keep to the disciplines and principles which served him so well in his first few months as a Wolves player.

He added: “For me it’s not necessarily about trying to improve from last season.

“It’s about maintaining what I did and doing all the right things that helped me enjoy the season I had.”

We are Wolves ! Another twenty something goals from SEB next season should see us up as champions. Trust in MM and we shall do well with our young and hungry wolves ! All we need now is all the wolves fans behind the team, the management and believe in what is about to happen over the next three years at the Molineux…..

Nice One Sylvan! Good to see you establish your position at the club, settling the score, rather than leaving fans fretting over whether you are truly happy at the club. Great striker, and with Keogh (and/or) Vokes as a play-off man, we should be fine!

  3. Happy_baggie said:

I see moxey has “wheeled” the fans favourite out again… I thought this had been dealt with already by the board who stated that “NO ONE will be sold”…

However, if SEB or the club thinks the board can decide these things they don’t understand how football works these days.

If Kightly or anyone really wants to go, it won’t matter if you are a “big club” - the pressure to sell will be too great and he will go.

No club can sit their best players (assets) in the stand for a season - its dead money.

So whilst I genuinely applaud the stance your board has taken, i think when push comes to shove, the player will always win.

Quality player, well done mick. The way he holds it up and brings other people into play is fantastic, he got of the season and finished top scorer. He is very hungry to get goals and im predicting he will get 27 next season.

It’s all very well Wolves fans on here being optimistic for next season, but what reason do we have to be optimistic?! If we hadn’t signed SEB in January, we’d have probably ended up around 11th.

So, what if next season he gets injured at some point?! And lets face it, it’s extremely likely in todays game. Even the best players rarely complete a full season.

I guarantee that as soon as SEB goes, so will the optimism. We have no strength in depth and to rely on one PROVEN striker is not good enough. We’re faffing around bringing in ‘young and hungry’ strikers, but if they don’t score goals we may as well be playing Neil Collins up front!

In fact, I’m sure Neil Collins scored more goals than half of our strikeforce last year! AND he claimed more assists (although 99% of those were assits to the opposition in the form of a penalty)

    ;)

Good on ya Sylvan, with all the hype surrounding Hennessey(Expected) and Kites(Expected but surprised) due to lack of Match practice last 6 months then reading this makes me think not many stars will not leave but a lot can happen over the summer but thinking positive.
On the Kites thing, to have seen the amount of interest in him since end of season is remarkable considering there was nothing the season before when he had played more or less every game in last half of that season

happy baggie you are silly sometimes. He has a 4 years left on a contract if somebody come in with silly money and he wants to go then were let him but I have heard he’s kicking up a fuss because he hasnt been offered the captaincy. How much did you get for gera? oh yeah he went to a bigger club fulham!

  12. Happy_baggie said:

1 - SEBS goals will be an important feature for you next season - as were Kev Phillip’s goals for us last season.

Difference is we had two other forwards who scored around another 40 goals between them, plus a midlield who scored a further 40 gaols….

20 gaols from SEB will need to be coupled with a further 50/60 gaols from elsewhere just to make the playoffs - and you will need around 100 in total to get automatic promotion.

This is why the big interest in lafferty is so baffling - you need a goal scorer not another “tricky” type player.

Great positivity from you there S*U*P*E*R - presume you won’t be going to any games next season either as they ‘are going to lose them all’, whilst we are at it we may as well say that SEB will be injured, half the team will be abducted never to be seen again and Molineux will go up in flames. I think i’ve heard so booing on a saturday when we were 3-0 up.

Lets see what happens in preseason before you bang on about stength in depth. We have already purchased one forward and we seem to be linked with every player under the sun at the moment. If you beleive the reports we are set to spend 6-7 mil in the pre season, at least lets see what happens first.

  19. S*U*P*E*R said:

Actually, I’m quite positive about our chances next year, all I’m saying is that putting all our hopes on one player is just setting ourselves up for a fall! If SEB is injured we’ve had it becasue we haven’t signed any goalscorerers.

It’s exactly the same as pre-season last year where we based our season on Kightly, then as soon as he was out the equation, it was curtains!

This isn’t a case of Jaz wheeling out his favourites…it isn’t of Wolves doing at all - this is simply E&S trying to get a story to put on the website. It is natural that a reporter will ask players if they are happy and the players don’t have much choice other than to answer the question….if they don’t answer it then the reporter simply writes that the player won’t commit himself. I’m not critisising wolves - if you read my post i actually applaud the stance taken by your board.

But surely you know by now that its the players who carry the power - whether its Gareth Barry at villa, Zoltan Gera at albion or Ronaldo at man utd - if a player wants to go, they WILL go… and all you can do is get as much dosh for them as you can.

The size of the club or statements from players mean little these days - its just about money !

  27. AWolfAtTheDoor said:

Greg Cooper (20). Quality link - although comparing the bloke in the video to Jez is doing him a little injustice.
Everyone slags Jez Moxey off, but he’s paid to do a job - run Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. I think he’s done a bloody good job. When the Hayward money dried up (more to do with Sir Jacks’ greedy family than the great man himself, I suspect) and before Mr Morgan arrived with his £30M, Jez had to find players wages, signing on fees and some sort of cash for MM to strengthen a very small squad. I know he hasn’t always communicated well with the fans, but I don’t care, as long as my Club doesn’t end up like Leeds or Leicester (even though they got away with it), I’ll be happy.
Finally, get behind MM and the Boys, no booing or jeering or singing for players to be brought on even though they are rubbish (Freddie Eastwood, take a bow!!).

  36. WetWolf said:

All we have at the moment is rumour and speculation.
Does anyone really believe a tenth of it? Most of the talk of big clubs trying to sign our better players is the result of agents trying to earn increased fees and football journalist trying to justify their wages through the summer.
We had the same thing about Kightly last year. Does anyone think he improved in value last season? If anything he lost value due to the recurrent ankle problem that is still keeping off the pitch. We are more likely to lose Kights to the treatment room than another club next season.
We should worry about who we are going to bring in, not who wants his agent to up his profile so he can ask for more money!

Come on Mick, prove us all wrong. Spend some money on transfers (or wages), sign a couple of gems (Berra maybe?), add a couple of older pros (with REAL experience not just a lot of appearances) and give us a squad that can seriously challenge for promotion.
Oh, and please let the Lafferty talk be more rumour… he isn’t good enough for the Burnley fans so he isn’t likely to win friends here :-)

  38. brummie rob wolves said:

    17) I totally agree with you. QPR are a big danger but Derby need to have a total overhaul, Blues are worried about losing a few and do not have a defence and Reading will lose players.
As for Wolves having to score 100 goals to be automatic. Absolute tripe. Albion scored 100 in all competitions, not the league!

  39. Southern Wolves said:

    Happy. One correction.
Moxey/morgan/McCarthy didnt say no-one will be sold. They said no one is for sale.
Now, my house isnt for sale but if someone came along and offered me twice its value id snap their hand off quicker than an Albion player offered terms from another club.

  40. brummie rob wolves said:

Once we have the quality youngsters back and hopefully get the signings we have been after and want to come here we will have a very good team and reserves.
This is how it could look :-

Hennessey, Foley, Berra, Craddock, Elokobi, Kightly, Davies, Howard, Jarvis, Lafferty, Ebanks-Blake

Subs: Murray, Little, Gray, Edwards, Keogh

A side packed full of quality with a quality bench!

  41. NathanWolves said:

  42. Dan said:

Cause for optimism here, I think that hennesy, kites and SEB should have seen enough exaples of players moving too early and getting lost in the reserve team abiss. It all depends on what type of charecter you are (sidwell demanding his wages- personally I’d just move safe in the knowledge I’m already a millionaire, going to earn good money at the next club but I’d just want to play) theres one example. These lads are only young and have years to make there pots of gold. Hopefully they will stay and added with 3-4 additions we will be strong. Many comparisons have been made on this site with us and newcastle which is right in a way we are similar. As with them our start is paramount, if we get off to a good start and put last seasons mistakes behind us the atmosphere will be electric dowm the mol but if MM repeats the same old dross football of last year it will only antogonise people further. Our first 8 games will be all important to determine whether we can challenge for auto or whether we are looking at the play offs.

  43. DudzieWolf said:

    7. Super, carrying on from this…Young n hungry, in the form of Kites eg. Has a season and a half to establish himself then gets a good agent and has half the Prem clubs poking their noses in. Its all well and good having young n hungry players, they will no doubt be the future. But for which club? Keeps Moxey happy cos the balance books look good (thats his job), we need to get some established class. Cannot see McCarthy handling established class tho, so our once great club will remain a top 10 CCC club for many years to come unless something changes at boardroom, backroom staff, medical staff and coaching levels. Total overhaul required, how long does Morgan need to “take a look”. Surely enough has been seen up to now

Anyway, enuf moaning. I’m gonna take out all me frustrations at the Sex Pistols concert in Bham tonight

If Everton come in with a 5 million offer for one of our lads the moeny is good and more importantly the player will want to go. Villa, have this with Barry and even Man U have it with Ronaldo.

    LAFFERTY TALKS:
    1st Story:

But on Monday night Coyle had to concede defeat and accept the offer from Wolves leaving the way clear for Lafferty to leave the Clarets.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is hoping to open negotiations over personnel terms with the forward as early as Wednesday morning in a bid to push through the move.

    2nd Story:

But last night Coyle finally accepted a £4 million package for Lafferty from Mick McCarthy’s Wolves.

This was only 24 hours after Rangers, a club Lafferty has supported since a boy, submitted a bid of £2.5 million cash plus £1 million rated midfielder Alan Gow.

Wolves’ offer of £2.5m cash, striker Stephen Elliott and one other unnamed player, to bring the total up to £4 million, is simply too good an offer to turn down.

McCarthy is expected to open discussions on personal terms with Lafferty, who still has several years to run on his Burnley contract, first thing tomorrow morning.
