FA Cup hero Graham Williams has immediately appealed to West Midlands businessmen to keep the Baggies British after the club was put up for sale.
The club this morning announced it is seeking major new investment with chairman and majority shareholder Jeremy Peace may even prepared to step aside should the person that comes forward want to be the sole owner.
Williams, who skippered Albion to Wembley success in 1968, hopes they do not succumb to the foreign ownership which is becoming increasingly prevalent in the top flight.
He said: “The only people that seem to be looking to invest in the Premier League at the moment are foreigners, but would Albion like to be taken over by foreigners?
“We are such a homely team, we are a West Midlands side. Do we have any rich, old fans who support the club who could put the money in? I don’t know.
“I would like to see all football clubs remain in British hands and if it is someone from the West Midlands then yes, great.”
“I would think there will be a lot of people interested because the finances of the club are very sound. The club is a good proposition.
“You don’t get many clubs with the financial assets that Albion have got. I would think it depends on the price.
“Other clubs are looking for finances when they are in debt. Albion are not in debt anyway, the chairman has done a good job there.”

Good sentiments - but its a bit “Ma & Pa” to think we can compete in todays markets whilst remaining a “homely” team….
Its not like we haven’t had takeovers before - JP took over the club from Thompson - and so it goes…
We would all like the old days of a family owning the clubs for decades - passing it from father to son - but football moved on 20 years ago - and its only now we have got into a position to join in.
we have to embrace this and see it as an opportunity - the next chapter in our illustrious history.
How about Mr.Al Fayed? He’s ALMOST British and he’s taken a shine to some of your players.BTW what’s this Gera like? We’ve never heard of him down here. Is he anything like our own Rodney Marsh who famously said about the albion ‘If you put lipstick on a pig it’s still a pig.’
no 2:
4 million, nine hundred and ninety thousand and one - ha ha ha, 4 million nine hundred and ninety thousand and 2- ha ha ha ………………….
sorry were still laughing at every penny of the £6m you paid for Kamara
No.3 Think we got a good deal Kamara and Gera for 6Million.
No 2, ‘our own Rodney Marsh’??? I think QPR and Man City may have something to say about that, seem to recall he joined you in the twilight of his career……….. And where is Mr Marsh now?
C list celeb at best punting his wares wherever they will take him, soooooooo sad
2, Wasnt he refering to your Mother?
That seems to have done the trick
Come on lads - don’t fall for old optimistic wolf and his silly games…. he’s given up on trying to convince everyone that wolves are bigger than albion, so now he’s trying fulham… I await “optimistic man utd fan” with baited breath.
Cant believe Gera gone to Fulham worst support in the prem crap ground but money talks
Come on people get a grip.
Optimistic wolf

2 Optimistic F. Ask your cousin optimistic W about Gera, he has seen plenty of him at very close range. As for a pig, ask Mr Morgan, he’s bought one in a poke. Don’t suppose he’ll see that £10 again.
4.. Make your mind up optimistic wolf (oops I mean fulham) you had a good deal 6 million for Kamara and a nobody you have not heard of.
Fulham fan - Gera’s 29 so he peaked in at the end of last season. 6 Mill for him and Joe moaner - believe me you WERE done. Bring it on, 6 points to the Baggies.
I think jp has done agrand job, if he thinks he has taken us as far ashe can and wants to cash in on his investment fairplay.AS regards foreign ownership it wouldnot bother me because an invester is an invester they are in it to make money.may be jp will stay on with new owners when it happens…
