Phillips could stay with Albion

phillips.jpegKevin Phillips’ agent has hinted that Albion still lead the race for the striker’s services despite speculation continuing to mount over his future.

Sources at relegated Derby today played down links with Phillips, as they became the latest club linked with a move for the 34-year-old.

As the fresh stories hit the streets, agent Phil Smith claimed he would hold further talks with Albion before opening discussions with other interested parties.

Responding to rumours of possible interest from Leeds, Smith effectively wrote off the League One side’s chances before offering hope to Baggies fans.

He said: “League One is not preferable. Until we have spoken to West Brom, we won’t be holding conversations with anyone else.”

The length of any new contract for Phillips remains the sticking point with Albion, as the former England international is keen on a straight two-year deal.

The Baggies are reluctant to commit to two years given Phillips’ age and recent history of knee trouble.

Yet the club are willing for any contract to allow for a second year to be triggered, if Phillips makes a pre-agreed number of appearances next season.

Re-signing the veteran goalscorer is the Baggies’ top priority as midfielder Zoltan Gera looks certain to leave, probably for Fulham.

His agent, Vladan Filipovic, said last night: “West Brom have made Zoltan a final offer and in my opinion he will leave, as he has better offers from other clubs.”

He aint good enough for Prem anyway, lets face it he didn’t do much for Villa no did he?

I’m not just making a pointless argument, but he’s was only ever good in the Prem at Sunderland. Now he’s past it imo, would do the job for a championship side for a season or two though.

Why doesn’t Bully snap him up for Stafford!

come on phillips av one last bash in the prem with the most exciting up and coming team in the prem,,,PLAYING IN EUROPE THE MOWBRAY WAY,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOOH YES

  5. Happy_baggie said:

kev Phillips is rich beyond most peoples dreams - surely the chance of another go in the prem would motivate him more than money at this stage of his career - and I’m sure he will still be on 15/20 grand a week….

Not sure how effective he will be directly - but he could have a massive infuence on our younger strikers.

  6. themowbrayway said:

Playing for a Mowbray team in the prem, there is no doubt that Phillips will score some goals. I hope he signs up. It’s got to be better than ‘putting in a shift’ at a championship club.

i knew hed stay he wants champions league football and with us he knows he will get it aye boing boing wheres me passport

I reckon he could still do a job for us in the
    Premiership,aspecially against dross like WIGAN,
    FULHAM,BOLTON e.t.c.
But its funny that his agent is coming out the
woodwork,as no other PREM club wants to touch him.
He should just stop been greedy and sign this
1 year contract, with the option of another.

C’mon Kev, one more year and you can come straight back down the mowbury way. In style. Oh yeah. Boing Boinging to relegation the mowbury way. ha ha ha ha Moore and kev up front, those proven prem scorers

9 & 10 - are you trying to wind up albion fans or just soothe your own raw feelings of jealousy ?

If its the former then you failed miserabley - all you have done is given me a right good laugh - at you….

If it was the latter then i hope that you have found a crumb of comfort in pretending that our club is failing whist yours remain the pioneers of european football - worshipped and admired around the globe for its attractive football and friendly fans.

A further note to 10 - if you are going to post such studid drivel on a public forum you really should consider adopting an anonymous web name- how about “one-eyed & bitter” ??

100 how many players you got who have scored hatricks in the prem ? NONE stop making yourself look silly, you would kill to be in our position but you aint. Grow up and get over it you are a middle of the road championship team. If i were you i would aim my vile at teams on your level not premiership clubs. like i say it makes you look silly

if he stays he stays if not well TM will not let us down in the transfer market.

1.. I (and I cant believe I am typing this lol) partly agree with you about in more recent seasons his prem goals have not been up there with the big boys but… (you knew it was coming) its not just goal scoring that KP’s game is all about he creates many goals for other team members with his awarness of the game.
He will do a good job in the prem as regards creating but in the pop league he is lethal.

I hope he stays from a baggies point of view but he is a footballer with a greedy agent and we all know where that ends up!!

  18. AMS said:

Happy Agree with your comment in 5. KP is not just about his own game but improves those of the others in the squad. If he decides to stay he will be up for it.
    12. Optimistic - we shall see Fulham and Bolton to both finish above Mowbray’s entertainers. I do not think so. Bolton may not be so lucky next time around.
Wolves wont finish above Palace, QPR or Blues so it’s play offs at best again.
Shame cos it would be good to show our rivalry off in the Prem in 09/10 rather than the fizzy pop league.

  19. reddibaggie said:

Gera will show his true colours if he signs for fulham,c**p ground , no fans and they’ll be relegated next season anyway. I dont want him to leave but if he does then he has no ambition, just in it for the money not football.

YEH! MEGSON is such a dross manager isnt he,
even though he led us to 2 promotions, and brought
    in players like GREENING,GERA,ALBRECHSTEN,ROBINSON,KANU e.t.c. .
And the reason Bolton are awful is not down to
Lord Gary Megson but it is down to BIG FAT SAM,
who signed players like IVAN COMPO!.

AND YOU STUPID DINGLES TURNED DOWN THE CHANCE
TO SIGN MEGSON,THEN DECIDED TO GO FOR MAD MICK!
AND I BET YOUR CURSING THE DAY YOU DID THAT!!!
`WELL HERE`S TO ANOTHER 5 SEASONS IN THE FIZZY
    POP LEAGUE!
    BOING!BOING!

  21. wbabomber said:

I am as unsure as anyone else when deliberating whether super kev would be effective in the prem, but one thing people have not mentioned is if he did decide to stay it would help keep the squad moral and strength of character together, us fans find it hard to look beyond what goes on on the pitch, but much of what happens on a Saturday is the product of what has been done during the week, month, and season.
Players like Robbo are big mates with Kev and it acts as a lift when you are mates with your fellow players, another reason why i am sad to see Gera leave, but hey, money talks, are you listening Mr Peace???

On the wolves pages, one of their lot asked what games we will be playing at our “party” tonight.

    I suggested the following:

    1. Pin the tail on Karl henry

    2. Blind mans bluff (or “the team sheet” as mick calls it)

    3. Hide and seek - or as Kightly calls it - facing Paul Robinson.

Anyone think of any more games for tonight ??

    20. you really think you lot are going to be stuck in the championship after you get relegated next season.
i thought you were the ultimate yo-yo team.
its amazing how you lot were saying Megson was tripe and then as soon as a Wolves fan says anything against him he is lord megson.

  40. Mark Lloyd said:

Gera’s is now only thinking about money, who can blame him as at 29 it is probably his last chance of a major deal. He has been a good player ov er the 4 years but only good, nothing else. He has had an excellent 4-8 months since asking for a transfer before Xmas. Good thing is he can be replaced.

  41. Cantello Rocket 78 said:

Just a question for the very dopey dingles-If Albion are literally IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE to you (that is with the ELITE),and you keep saying how bad we are, just how much worse must your lot be?-By the way,Ronaldo said he wants to play for wolves-but Christiano told his Grandad not to be so silly, even at 89 he could do much better than that.

  42. Slapadingle said:

Well folks, I’ve been away for a week and nothing has changed. Gera still hasn’t made a decision. Message to Gera: if you want to go, go. I back the club 100%. No player is bigger than the club, we don’t have any super talented individuals, last years sucess was down to being a team

Still laughingwolf making himself look stupid, but he’s funny. Bless him!!

PS: Don’t expect to hear from the Baggies’ Bloggers this morning, the party went very well last night! Just as expected, the Wulfies didn’t turn up, a bit like a recent cup-tie we won 3 - 0 and their whole team didn’t turn up either. They heard there was a free pie and a pint at a pub near a certain rather sickly coloured, over-sized stadium.
