Coventry go cool on Eastwood

eastwood.jpegCoventry are cooling on their interest in Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood after opening moves to land one of two other targets instead.

The Molineux club’s Championship neighbours were ready to buy the transfer-listed Eastwood for £1m.

Wolves are holding out to recoup the £1.5m they shelled out to Southend for the 24-year-old last summer.

Coventry, anxious to get their summer recruitment under way, are now making moves to pursue an alternative solution to their search for more goal power.

Bolton’s Heidar Helguson and Southampton’s Polish international striker Grzegorz Rasiak, who finished last season on loan at the Reebok, are options.

This development will be of concern to Eastwood, who had seen Coventry as his most likely next destination.

Despite speculation suggesting that Crystal Palace, Bristol City and QPR are all interested, it is only Chris Coleman who has been prepared to put money on the table.

Towards the end of last season, Wolves had agreed a sale to Coventry which would have given them their money back.

That broke down, amid much bitterness, when manager Mick McCarthy had a change of mind.

Coventry - having survived the relegation peril in which they were locked at that time - now feel less inclined to match the full £1.5m.

The prospect of a disenchanted Eastwood beginning pre-season training still looking for a move will put pressure on Wolves to strike a deal, as they continue their own hunt for fresh faces.

One of their targets, Kyle Lafferty, has moved a step closer to a Burnley exit as the club concede the striker’s demand for a new start sets the stage for a sale to either Wolves or Celtic.

How about we keep a proven goalscorer like Freddy
    - Grays Athletic (Games 55 / Goals 34)
    - Southend (Games 115 / Goals 53)

And sack off our interest in Lafferty (another
    forward who can’t actually score)
    - Burnley (Games 82 / Goals 10)

He is no leader of men, he is just a sad reflection of where the game has ended up

When Gazza cried at the world cup it was exuasable as he was a young lad who through his own fault had lost his place in the World Cup final. Since then the list of players who have blubbed over the slightest set back is getting annoying. I mean I don’t cry at every set back I suffer in business, why should they?

all coventry are trying to do is drive the price down to below 1 million.

lets face it they know wolves don’t want him or to be more precise mick doesn’t. they also know freddie is so disenchanted with how he’s been treated at wolves i’m sure he would go anywhere. and i am sure wherever he goes he will score a sackfull of goals.

and i for one cannot see why we would want kyle lafferty, and the money we are offering for him is ridiculously high.

sorry i don’t trust mick to spend our money wisely. we need some quality and we must not spend silly money like previous managers on unproven players like lafferty.

and just another point could you imagine where we would be now with paul ince as manager. we’ve missed the boat now.

What’s this about Wolves holding out to recoup £1.5mil for Freddy Eastwood? A year ago Moxey swore we hadn’t paid that much for him!!! It was Southend chairman Ron Martin who said we paid £1.5mil, and Moxey strongly denied it!

Let’s say we paid £1.25mil plus add-ons for appearances–which will have come to approximately £0. Wolves paid that after Freddy had been a regular in the Championship for Southend and scored 53 goals in 115 games for them. How can you expect another team now to pay the same price for a reserve who’s only scored a handful of goals this season?

Also, Eastwood has already completed one year of a five-year contract, so the price should come down about one-fifth. Remember, in four years time he would be going on a Bosman for nowt! Moxey should snap off Coventry’s hand if they’ve offered £950,000, never mind £1mil.

If we go on in this way, Wolves are going to be stuck with a player McCarthy hates and short of funds for new purchases. The way Moxey conducts business, or rather fails to conduct business, dumbfounds me! IMHO, he’s full of boastful, self-contradictory nonsense!

But Terry do you honestly think that Luke Moore is better than Eastwood. You have started early for your party and had too many e-numbers. A goalscoring prodigy in Vile reserves and lost his way!

    A few stats:
    Eastwood
    Average goals pr.game
    Eastwood
    Grays - 0,6
    Southend - 0,4
Wolves - 0,3 (from the 10 games he has started)

    Keogh
    Scunthorpe - 0,2
    Wolves - 0,2

    Ebanks-Blake
    Plymouth - 0,2
    Wolves - 0,6

    Elliott
    Sunderland - 0,2
    Wolves - 0,1

    Stephen Ward
    Bohemians - 0,2
    Wolves - 0,06

Looking at new boy Vokes and target Lafferty the stats looks like this:

    Sam Vokes
    Bournemouth - 0,2

    Kyle Lafferty
    Burnley - 0,1

What is it that McCarthy can’t see?

Selling him for less than 1,5 would be nothing but a disaster and 1 mio is plain robbery considering that Elliott cost 1,1.

It would suit McCarthy if he admitted his mistake and gave Eastwood another chance.

80)Do you think Tony Mowbray is god…? One of the players you had to rely on to go up was Clement and Mowbray did a Craddock with him and realised he made a mistake. He will have to earn his stripes next season. It’s all well and good playing the attractive football with a sieve like defence but you are up against far superior opposition. Gera will be off and then like the Wolves he must make the right signings.
I will put my self in the firing line and say it is extremely unlikely that Moore can hit 10 in the Premiership. He is no better than any of our first choice strikers for starters.

I really thought that Mowbray had made a big

looked like scoring, next season you dingles will

J.PEACE would of spent 3M on a dud.
And as for EASTWOOD I told you at the start of
the season that he would not score more than
    3 goals,and I was right.
And the reason he didnt score many goals is
due to the fact that your midfield is c***!,
thats why EBANKS-BLAKE scores so many goals,
because he can create for himself.

This kid as soon as he scores 1 he will get confidence like how he was at the start of the season lat year. He went offish cause of mcarthy havin a go at him and not playing. Any player would lose confidence if something like that was said when he was scorin loads of goals. If u ask me the only man who should go is mcarthy.GET HIM OUT MORGAN!!!!!!

We should keep eastwood not go for lafferty but still get another striker. Eren derdiyok from fc basel would be a good signing. Come on mcarthy get players from out of england start scouting europe.

also with mario mandzukic from dinamo zagreb that would be two good signings includin derdiyok.

Comment 105 - Wishfull thinking regarding Dann and Fox

MM ONLY wants players that can put in a “shift” not ones that have any talent as he cant manage those!!

Is Freddie being touted by the club for more money than we paid out for him??? Is that the reason why we are finding it hard to sell him???

Typical double standards if that’s the case! Not good enough for Wolves BUT pay us more than we paid out for him?

    You heard it here first!

There is now panic at the Molineux due to the lack of season ticket sales.

Well down on last season, and more like the last season after Glenda.

Rumour is that they will spin it by saying that they will now start promising to listen to the fans, while they carry on regardless anyway.

    103. Shut it you idiot, you didn’t humiliate us last season at all, you just think you did. Albion will always be in Wolves’ shadow, I’m sick of saying it now.

113 - you should be sick of it - its pathetic.

How can any club in the prem be in the shadow of a mediocre championship club ??

Even ignoring the fact that we have whupped you 9 times out of 10 over the last few years, we have moved so far ahead of you that I can hardly see you now.

Now go away and cry like a sad little wulfie. Bow wow.
