Wolves want to roll back the clock and find old hands to reproduce the famous Ince-Irwin partnership which led the club to the Premier League five years ago.
Chief executive Jez Moxey confirmed today that the search for a couple of battle-hardened campaigners is dovetailing, with the continued recruitment of the 25-and-under brigade.
The influence of former Premier stars Paul Ince and Denis Irwin was paramount as Wolves recovered from their worst nightmare – losing promotion to Albion in 2002 – to reach the top flight a year later.
At a time when the focus at Molineux is to build a team with a five or six-year life span, Moxey acknowledged that Wolves would relish the chance to replicate that input for the 2008-09 campaign.
Wolves were keen to enter the bidding for 32-year-old Lee Carsley when he was released by Everton a fortnight ago, but could not match the wages on offer from Birmingham City. Carsley fits the bill to add to the “young and hungry” culture being encouraged at Molineux.
Moxey said: “The main focus is still on getting together the nucleus of a team which will take us into the Premiership and last for five or six years.
“But we were very fortunate a while back to bring in players of the stature of Paul Ince and Denis Irwin and it would be perfect if we could come up with something like that again.
“The trouble is, players of that quality, dedication and personality don’t come along too often. But we are looking hard.”
After signing Sam Vokes from Bournemouth, Wolves are finding it more difficult with other known targets. The Kyle Lafferty deal is log-jammed, while the move for Christophe Berra was always likely to be complicated by the notoriously awkward Hearts ownership.
Their interest in Peterborough striker Aaron McLean and Derby’s left-sided central midfielder David Jones has also yet to result in anything concrete.

I think Kevin Phillips would do a job.
Who fits the Paul Ince ageing leader mould though? Moxey is right there are not many around.
Young and Hungry one minute old the next
what your owner Jez means is Cheap and no one else wants. Just why you got Mad MM
Just heard that Paul Ince is short listed for Blackburn job.
What’s this ? Positive news coming out of the Mol spin machine ? There must be some ‘older’ prem players warming the benches or sitting in the stadiums that would love the chance to play regular 1st team football and who have the quality as well. About time something positive was said about re-building the defence. I know there’s been Christophe Berra and that guy from Oldham talked about but I think we do need some experience to guide the ‘young & hungry’
This sounds like a desperate attempt to protect our current squad from the failings of last season…McCarthy said our team is the best in the League recently, if that were so then we wouldn’t need to be looking at has beens. Stick with Michael Gray, Plenty of experience, Works as hard as anyone on the pitch, not afraid to stick a boot in and occasionally scores a good goal…enough said!
Couldnt match smallheath wages? christ, how the mighty have fallen.
Good article.
It will be the same as always with the transfers though, nothing will really happen until the end of July/start of the new season.
Stick with the youth policy unless a real golden oldie comes along. Remember what Alan Hanson said, “you’ll never win anything with kids” and we all know how that worked out. Give the young, hungry players a go!
Sorry wolfie friends but with a headline of “wolves chase golden oldies” be prepared for the normal batner to excede itself!!
if you are good enough ,you are old enough. We have the best squad in the league said MM.
About Time! Some common sense at last!
Only thing is that we have this “wage budget” that means that other clubs can sign the likes of Carsley and we cant? Whats the difference between paying a transfer fee and paying someone more because they add better quality to the team?, even if its for ONE season?
Is the reason that “it will cause unrest in the current squad?” or is the prize of Premiership football out of reach due to false economies dressed up as “company policy”?
Sheringham and Windass - combined age of eighty-something??? How about Hyypia and Scoles?
Pathetic Moxey. Just get rid of MM and get a manager who knows what the hell he is doing.
If Albion can get a genius why the hell can`t we?
Sammy Hypia would fit the bill
FINALLY! I’ve been saying this for ages!
Seeing as Derby are having a clear-out, why not go for Robbie Savage?
The E&S supporters certainly know how to stir it up with headlines like this. You wait for the deluge of Wolves moaners and Albion snipers - there again they can say nothing, as there team is full of them.
I agree in principal with this ethos but in what positions? The only obvious 2 that I can see is a central midfielder and centre forward. We need younger players elsewhere.
I don’t know the ins and outs but would say if you put £2 million down for Berra and £750 k for Jones, they will be ours.
Here is some other news that puts egg on General Moxey’s face. Miller will be going back to Rangers for £2 million!
cant believe it we cant match birmingham for wages says it all really about us wolves, just tight if u want to get out this league u need to pay them wages or just go for it not beat about the bush all the time
Best go get SUPERKEV now
kids to years ago did us proud
just give the likes jones, little a run simple
anyone heared anything on marky davies? he would be good to get fit but dont think we ever will get that
I tried to think of all the players who could fit the bill and there are not many. I know not many will agree with me but in defence I would have thought Breen would fit that bill. I still think he would give us solidity, albeit at a slowish pace, but I’ve always thought he would command respect from the younger players with his mature attitude.
Phillips would have been useful but surely we have enough up front now. What about Gravesen in midfield or someone like Lauren in defence. Old enough and with experience if we must go the old heads route again.
The list of Paul Ince admirers is growing with Blackburn the latest to join the fan club. Rumours still persist the assistant at Man. U. will be leaving and that Fergie wants Ince.
I fear any chance we had disappeared in December when we did not make the move we should have.
On the player front, if our management buys any Derby player the lot of them should be admitted to Penn Manor Hospital immediately with no prospect of release.
Grump.
The young and hungry players have had a go in the last 2 seasons and failed to get us up,
At the start of the 06/07 season they were the right players, now some of them need to go and we need to kick on with some real quality.
Young and Hungry is just spin, we need quality players that are able to do a job now, despite age.
daint the golen oldies finish bottom aye boing boing
1,dave, is that the same kevin phillips you was booing aye boing boing
A good squad (as TM will tell you) is all about balance - and a balance between young and old players can work really well - look at us with Miller and Phillips up front… but just having older players is no guarantee of success - look at Breen and Craddock.
Its unlikey that you will find another Paul Ince or Dennis Irwin - those type of players are VERY hard to find.
Whats more important is getting the very best out of the players you do have - another TM strength, and possibly the area where mick failed last season..(IMO)
I think you will need to find a new leader on the pitch to replace Breen - that may mean an old “war horse” coming in.
Sounds like Moxey is paving his way to signing
Dwight Yorke, in his usual slimey way.
All he does is insult our intelligence.
We need a couple of big time signings, not big time Charlies! Also why is it him who talks the transfer talk and not the manager?
Perhaps MM does not have a say anymore.
yeh always works! look at Savage at derby! watch him fly! pffff
Boateng.
George Boatang from Boro Is available i think. Would do us a job i think in the mould of Incey.
If we can’t compete with Carsley’s demands, what chance have we got for securing the likes of two ex Man U. players? A major incentive bonus for gaining promotion, which I think Ince and Irwin had, is our only hope.
Perhaps Tommy Gravesen would step down to dictate play?
its defenders we need, central defenders at that, slowly losing confidence in mm,seems to be clueless when it comes to signing central defenders
13 Robbie Savage - Good Call - Is he a defnsive midfield player?
11. Sandwell massive
Another pathetic counter productive comment, If there is one thing we missed last season is a leader in the mould of Paul Ince.
Last season is over and time to leave the negative comments there and look forward.
Sandwell massive if all you can do is moan do it somewhere else preferably away form Wolves, molineux or anywhere else connected to our great club
Hyppia or maybe evn Giggs. I imagine both have a season in them at Championship level, but will struggle to get into their current first teams in the coming season.
The “battle hardened campaigners” may only be needed for a season in order to influence the “young and hungry” in positive ways, and pass on the necessary experience. They could help us to get there, but only be bit part players when we get up. Look at what Barmby and Dean Windass did for Hull City last season. You can’t see them playing a lot next season in the Prem, though.
Lets get real!! If we only pay peanuts we will get ex Premiership monkeys!!!With wages in the Premier going crazy a bench warmer from the Premier will have his agent asking for mega bucks!!
The right blend of youth and expierience will get us there, though not too sure if MM is capable.
john richards, jim mcaliog, hughie curran are free agents aye boing boing
its that age old nutmeg…want premiership quality but can’t afford premiership wages..our chances diminish with every season we’re out the big time, they don’t get better.
Keane at S’land will spend 50 million on players just to try to finish around 14th this coming season. What hope have we got….i’ll be watchin Stafford again this season, can’t afford to go to molinuex with 3 kids…kids free at Stafford!
Whats with people questioning why we can’t afford to match birmingham wage strucure? Has anybody noticed they were playing in the prem last year?Parachute payments? As for Robbie Savage, i’d rather get Souness out of retirement. He’d probably be quicker.
We have got good old reliable Jody as our most experienced pro now jst need that experience in the centre of the park !
I agree that we need an Ince-type or indeed, an Alex Rae-type. Greening ran the show for the Albion at Molineux - why? ‘Cos nobody put a bloody tackle in on him, that’s why. Carsley could have done that job for us and I agree, Savage could do a job for a year - pay him what he wants. Bolton managed to eventually get a foothold in the prem by giving one-year contracts to foreign mecenaries - it worked for them, because if they got relegated, there would be nobody on expensive long-term contracts. Give Savage a lucrative one-year deal & see if it comes off…….
i have read the comments above, wolves are not abandoning the youth policy. They have realised that they need one or two experienced heads in amongst them. the problem is we could pay the likes of Ince, Irwin premiership wages and dont want to do that now. If they really want quality they will have to smash the wage structure and pay up
33 - Giggs ????
Firstly he will finish his career at Man Utd - he won’t play for any other team… but the very suggestion made me laugh.
Robbie savage would be a huge error - if you look in the dictionary under “overhyped journeyman looking for a last pay day” you will see his picture there.
What players around will be professional enough and come to wolves and do a job? Ince & Irwin will never be matched. Someone mentioned to me Dwight Yorke, GOD NO!!!
If Scholes n Giggs were ever fed up of manure…
Its a pity about carsley, but he is blues through n through. But Graverson is a good shout.
ROBBIE SAVAGE “YER HAVING A LARF” I rather see Lily savage then him. He has not got the same game as he did 3 years ago.
I see Ince is favourite for the leicester job. If only Moxey saw the light!
Oh this fizzy league planning is so boring
Billy Bremner and Nobby Stiles would do for me.
Robbie Savage? That would be time to pack it all in.
Is it not amazing that Moxey is talking about returning to a great old head partnership, and finding it difficult to source these players.
Well if Moxey had the guts to employ Ince as Manager then these players would have come to Wolves, but under McCarthy that will never happen.
Again missed the boat, Moxey has not got a clue.
Billy Bremner and Nobby Stiles will do for me
22 & 23. What language is that? Anyone know a good translator?
17 — MD is too incapable of training let alone playing. It has nothing to do with injuries.
33. giggs, are you serious, the man will never leave United, when he finally stops playing he will be cast in concrete inside Old Trafford!
I do agree with your point though, Hypia would be good, I always liked his style of play and think it would fit in well, or boateng. We need someone who can really boss the central midfield.
WHO THE CHUFFIN ECK IS WANTING LILLY SAVAGE AT WOLVES!?! HE IS RUBBISH!! HE RUNS AROUND LIKE A HEADLESS CHICKEN!
NOW TOMMY GRAVESON WOULD BE AN AWESOME SIGNING, BUT IF WE CANNOT MATCH THE BLUES FOR CARSLEY, WE CAN FORGET THAT
AND BOATENG WOULD WANT LOADS OF DOSH…HE’S ONE OF THE GREEDIEST PLAYERS IN THE PREM!
AS FOR GIGGS AND SCHOLES…..KEEP WISHING LADS!
OKOCHA!?! HE TORE US APART AT MOLINEUX FOR HULL..HE’S JUST BEEN RELEASED.
UMMMM MAKELELE?? HAHA YEH RIGHT!
BANG OLD MICKY GRAY IN THE MIDDLE! THE GUY IS A LEGEND!
Nolberto Salano.
I have been saying this for quite a whle now that Ince, Irwin and Rae were crucial for us and any team needs a blend of experience and youth. Can we steer clear of Sunderland though!
Don’t forget the clubs with parachute payments are: charlton, sheff utd, watford and now birmingham, derby and reading, not mentioning qpr and ipswich who have had massive investment. if mick gets us up hes a legend. my team for aug 9th:
murray, henry (rb), craddock, berra, elokobi, kightly, olo, edwards, jarvis, seb, lafferty.
subs: king keogh, vokes, schmeichel, foley, grey
sell hennesey lets get 8 mil and strengthen in january
We should sign Kightly & SEB both are better than any thing we az got aye boing boing
The last thing Giggs said was “I couldn’t think of playing for another club”. What an example of loyalty to some of our lot who sign 4 year contracts, play a season and then aren’t happy at our club. The work must begin in earnest this year to find the right blend of youth and experience who want to battle for the club as well as themselves. We can’t allow ourselves to be a feeder club for the premiership and at some point we might have to pay the rate for a bit of class. The most important thing is for harmony between Mick and the players so everyone is going in the same direction - up!
Thats what you need is a good mixture of the old & the youth.Carsley would of being a good adition.Cant believe the blue noses could offer him more cash than us when weve got Mr Morgan.Cmon weve just got to go that extra little step if we want to get out of this bottle of pop league to the promised land or were going to miss out on further targets in the coming weeks.
Is Oleg ‘The Donkey’ Luhzny still knocking around?
I can confirm the Golden Oldie thing works. Take Lupo my assistant manager in the best Mixers side to date, he was a true legend even spilling blood for the cause.
Give me strength!
First we want all young and hungry, then they have to have 4 years experience in the Championship and now they have to be battle hardened ex-Premiership players!!
A manager needs a combination of all of the above….the secret is that whatever age and experience, they have the necessary quality and attitude.
If football club management was about 2 from this category and 3 from another etc then we could all do it!
A manager’s job is to get the blend right. Patently, it wasn’t “right enough” last season and the blend needs changing. Just stop these ridiculous generalities and build a team!
Of course the midfield needs a leader in the Ince-mould..we can all see that! But it could either be a young and hungry player, an experienced Championship player or a battle-hardened Premiership pro.
MM managing to a formula rather than being flexible seems to be one of his downsides and, as others have said, could lead to yet another frustrating transfer month!
33- Although I’d love it can you honestly see Ryan Giggs in a Wolves shirt next season. Robbie Savage would be a good bet. Maybe Jimmy Floyd from cadiff or that Tugay character who is at blackburn, a new manager up there will want a clear out when he starts. Patrick Berger would be brilliant but probably unrealistic. what you think guys
I think one of our main signings this year should be a decent bloody coach. Clipboard does nothing to help us in my opinion.
We need someone like Bully to coach the strikers and someone like Vinnie Jones to toughen the likes of George up!
So man of our players have masses of potential, and with the exception of Hennessey who has the superb Bobby Mimms behind him, alot of them will never reach their potential due to our shoddy coaching.
And if anyone believes I’m wrong about our teams coaching, then trot on down to the training ground one day!
David Weir
Andy Cole
Stelios
Ivan Campo
They’re all available, get stuck in Mick!
We are so jealous of you and ur fine city
dis is truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeee aye boing boing
The above names in brackets are only my ‘off the cuff’ suggestions!
Jay Jay Okocha. He’s about to be released by Hull. He’s a little injury prone… but remember how he ran the game agaist us at Molineux & wouldn’t let us have the ball. Wolves were booed off, no honestly they were!, cause we have a divine right to beat Hull & then didn’t. Now it’s clear that it was them that were good rather than us that were bad…& Okocha was the difference.
Simon
62 - Bully and Vinnie….. I can see the training now.
SB - right lads, you’re all strikers and what you have to do is kick the ball into the net.
SEB - yeah we know that - but how ?
SB - don’t ask me - you can’t teach that sort of thing.
AK - oh right….(wonders off….)
Then..
VJ - right. I’m here to toughen you all up. You - hit him in the face..
MK - eh ? Thats not allowed
VJ - course it is - I built a whole career around doing that. Now, spit at him, grab his goolies, bite him..
MK - err…. actually i think Micks calling me, gotta go… (walks briskly away)
VJ - Oi Bully - its just you and me then - fancy a game ? (smacks Bully in the face)…
61-Giggs, no chance
Jimmy Floyd, No legs any more
Berger, ‘poser’
Tugay, hadn’t thought of him. Interesting.
J J O Kocha just released by Hull City?
57. Craig_Wolves. Blues are paying their squad Premiership wages & we aren’t, so Carsley will fit into their wage structure. Also they will be subsidised by parachute payments.
I like the idea of Campo.
How about Danny Murphy at Fulham?
Simon
66 Simon just beat us to it! By the way JJ didnt play at hull on Boxing day BUT Hull were still too good for us!
35) Yes Terry they were class players that used to run rings around you. Have you ever got to a European final?
What makes me laugh is all the Albion fans praising up Mowbray. Not so long back a lot did not want him there and they too booed the team on a number of occasions.
POT KETTLE BLACK….!
13 We need Savage like a hole in the head. He’s injured, lazy and going nowhere. I have a good contact at Derby. They wish they hadn’t got him now a few million later. P Jewell is welcome to him. I expect he will be gone by Xmas anyway.
Carsley would have done a job, but thats gone now. Moxey is right when he says there aren’t the players about to select with the criteria he mentioned.
All clubs will be hanging onto their players until the end of July to see who divies up the most for them.. So I wouldn’t expect too much to occur for a good few weeks yet. This is a shame because to have them in pre-season is worth it.
67. I didn’t actually mean Bully and Vinnie (well, maybe Bully
)
We just need someone with that kind of mentality to spur the kids on. They can be as young and hungry as they want, but without guidance, they might as well be headless chickens!
hartsons after a team
72..yawn yawn in the past again yawnnnnnnnnnnn zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……………..
jj okocha is on a free get him in now, he ran the show at molineux and I would rather have in then dwight yorke, cmon mick the obvious is staring you in the face. MAKE THE MOVE!!
why not hamman at man city , he could do a job
67 above, you forgot to mention the men in white coats turned up and took you away.
Terry Baggie and Happy Baggie I am so sure that you have got nothing better to do then go onto our boards. Whats wrong with your own? Why are you so obsessed with ours? Is your life really so devoid of anything?
67;Happy, if you’re going to mock other posters’ spelling and punctuation you need to make sure yours are spot on! I’ll correct it for you if you wish and re-post it?
“I love the baggies - but even i admit in the premier league disco we are a bit of a five pinter.” (Happy_baggie, 22 May 2008)
Mid field player in the mould of Incy?
Look no further than Halmosi at Plymouth.
We could afford him. He played behind/with SEB.
He scores good goals, openplay and dead ball.
He is ambitious.
What more do we want?
Up The Wolves
Oh and they also have another good Hungarian. Centre half name of Timar.
Up The Wolves
Whatever the age it’s all about attitude. The trouble with older players is that there aren’t many Paul Inces around but there are lots looking for a last easy pay day.
72 BRW.
I’ve said it before. Stop telling lies about us and we won’t tell the truth about you.
JJ Okocha
David Weir
Andy Cole
Stelios
Ivan Campo
Nolberto Salano.
Dwight Yorke
Thomas Graveson
Nicky Barmby
Dean Windass
George Boatang
Kevin Phillips
I WOULD GO AFTER JJ OKOCHA , THOMAS GRAVESON AND KEVIN PHILLIPS .. THEY HAVE ALL GOT THAT URGE AND QUALITY WE NEED !!
TAKE YOUR PICK !!
your so jealous of me your evening putting post in my name now, awwwwwwwwwww aye boing boing
lts face it you ait guin nowhere are ya aye boing boing
63 LEEDS
We don’t need Stelios unless he can give us “Easypromotion”………..
83
Don’t they have Ginster as well?
ince played centre midfield halmosi is a winger how are they alike?
Some of the names mentioned on here have made me laugh.
Ryan Giggs, Hamman - these guys are on probably five times our wage cap. It’s not going to happen guys, the only way we could ever afford those was if Thick Mick got up up last season.
It didn’t happen, he’s still here so lets get looking around the lower leagues for some bargains again.
Hamman,,,, good shout!
Ian Harte would be a good addition I think. About to be released by Sunderland. We’ve tried to sign him before.
32, Tamworth, I have an imposter, charmed as I am to have one, please ignore the No.11 post.
In Mick I trust.
Come on me Babbies!
Whats Ollie Gunner doing these days?
70)Simon in Oklahoma,I know they can pay Carsley premiership wages, but i thought with Mr Morgan backing us,we could at least match what Birmingham are offering him because he’s no Ronaldo Torres or Gerrard. We have got to start paying Premiership wages or we’l loose the likes of Kitley, Henna’s etc,i know its down to no loyalty and greed but thats football nowadays and if you aint got the financial backing you wont go nowhere.
80) Totally agree mate. They come on here with juvenile comments to wind up.
They should worry about their own team. I have a feeling that they think that team from last season can survive. They have not even got 5 players good enough!
Just sign Beckham and Sol Cambell. Lots of has beens out there.
Boateng
Sol Campbell
JJ Okocha … Cm 35 * QUALITY GET

Would Be Great For Wolves !!
Take Your Pick People !!
Great idea to bring golden oldies back. My next door neighbour is Terry Wharton,he played for Wolves and England.Moxley do you want me to give him a knock because he could sure do with the pay rise he was on fifteen pounds a week and my dad said he was a brilliant player in his time.He maybe a bit slower but so is the Wolves team anyway.
what about that sonoko bloke at reading. saw him a few times not that old but still a decent def. read he had played his last match for reading. upset the manager or smetuhg
83 - Timar is the guy that fractured his skull against us on the last day of the season, he’s going to miss a good chuck of the next season.
Stelious Nah we won’t sign him he a creative centre mid we don’t do them tbf
Look at Poor Denes Rosa I know he is out of contract take it he has gone cuz nothing was said about him being released or anything
rob savage has the balls and guile to upset the best of players, he is 100% effort for who he plays for and can tackle a bit…..ouch..lol!! no poncy midfielder would wana tackle off him!! get him in!!!!!!!!!!!!
The failure to acquire Paul Ince stands as yet another condemnation of the pathetic management of this club in the last 20+ years.
He was one of us! And now we have no chance of ever getting him back again. How inept and stupid can our management team get?
Paul Ince will be going on to major Premiership and championship League glories. We lost him, when he was one of us!
Only Wolves with Moxey as the CEO could be this dysfunctional!
MOXET OUT NOW!!!
high wages but worth a gamble (1yr or 2 yr) and a bonus for promotion for :
Gravesen (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!)
Okocha (bench - match turner)
Davenport (providing he recovers)
—-
Tugay = intesting shout - never thought of him
—-
Murphy - still premiership
we could have had him for £500k years ago (taylor i think)
—-
Stelios (reminds me of Ketsbaia - hit-n-miss)
Campo (just a bit too old - 1 yr max)
Boateng (too expensive - rep. as money grabber)
Weir (wont move now at 39yo)
—-
Savage please NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
—-
Halmosi will cost at least £1.5m and his temperament is questionable
im not sure wot to wear tonite, aye boing boing aye
Wear your silly baggies shoe’s dont forget to take your signing on book with you.
Comment 105. I do agree with you, Ince would be an inspired choice as manager, but we are wolves and its the trait not to gamble with manager with little experience. I think at the time, Ince was not ready, BUT I think he is, but he will never come to wolves as I am sure in football circles and with male pride at stake, Moxey wont back down to his stance of not apppointing him and Ince would probably say no to the job if he was asked to come. Either way we have got MM for another season. Lets just forget about it all, sit back, relax, look to see who he brings in and god hopes we play the style of football that got us chanting SUPER MICK in that 1st season.
However alot needs to change if we are going to get back to that level, but lets see…..
A message to Terry Baggie & Happy Baggie have some pride man and go away. You post are annoying, stupid, no substance and have no meaning which probably sums you up as a person.
What about danny murphy he is still quality , plus with all new players coming in at fulham he will probly join. Also stefan Henchoz ex- liverpool centre back is also availible.
Akozs Busaky he is a quality player we should get him from QPR
think i,ll wear my my home top the one i weared at QPR when we won the title boing boing aye
99. Good list some of whom i agree would be perfect..JJ, without a doubt, but i’d put him through a comprehnsive medical,Stelios and Campo if they’d come…would do a job in this leauge easy and be a mssive inspiration to the young squad coming through. We need generals not privates. Bowyer forget it..his career is over and comes with too much baggage to give us a good season or two. There’s a fellow called Eastwood hardly got a game last season..if you introduce quality midfield, he’ll score a shed load…Philips…agreed, you have to be quick off the mark though and we need to move quicker….plan B was implemented the days we missed out on the play offs…get the targets quick, we need 5 players. 3 expereinced and two youngsters. Stelios, Philips, Campo, Berra, one other.
Lets break the bank and get Danny Murphy in.. he’ll do a job for us
Of the names mentioned, only Boateng, Solano and Campo appeal to me. Stelios? When was he ever golden? And what about a manager? Maybe scouse Steve Morgan will bring us Roy Evans!
In central defence, Craddock will have to do! McCarthy is doing a good job rebuilding the rest of the team, but with only Craddock and the two Collinses we’re headed for a relegation battle next season. We need young, fast, athletic players, e.g., Berra and Gunter, like a fish needs water!
On the next manager, look on the bright side! Apart from Ince, ex-Wolves Darren Ferguson (Peterborough), Alex Rae (Dundee), Mixu Paatelainen (Hibs) and John Ward (Carlisle) are all managers now. Give them another year and one of them should have emerged as a good successor to McCarthy.
5.Wolfinblack…It’s not that McCarthy doesn’t have a say, its that he hasn’t got a clue
the golden palace thats a chinese tekaway by us aye boing boing pwawn cwakers
As another wolves-fan livning in Denmark I do think it’s interesting that a people here come up with Gravesen as a possibility for a ”golden oldie”. I think it would be a big gamble to sign him. He’s infamous in Denmark for his unstabil mental state. He quit the national team with no reason, refusing to speak to the press .. ”but we all know” it was because the press wrote a lot about his relationsship with a famous danish porn-star. And you can’t seriously have been monitoring the last couple of years of his career. He should never have gone to Real Madrid in 2005(but that’s easy to say now – I know) – he has never later reached the level from the early Everton-days. Now he’s back in Celtic after a rather unsuccesful loan-spell in Everton, and being out of favour, maybe he would have an interest in signing here. I doubt it. I think his demand would be to big for our wage-structure and I don’t think he has any ambition in the game anymore, but I could be proven wrong.
72 - in all fairness, and im Wolves through and through, Mowbray did well t win the division……. I didnt want Mick when we appointed him but when we finished in the playoffs I praised him for doing well.
I wanted Mick out last season but I actually would give him another year now. Just have a feeling he will pull it off.
90 DaveM.
Yes mate Halmosi can play on the wing but is a seriously effective mid field player.
102 greeno.
Not forgotten his injury I still flinch when I think about it. Anyone who drops the nut on Elkobi is likely to come off second best. I do not know how long he is likely to be out but he is a very good strong centre half when fit.

I would expect he would cost all of £1~5m. How much do you think we need to pay to obtain the sort of quality we need to gain promotion from this division in the coming season?
His temperament is at times fiery do you not expect that in a ball winning midfield player. Are you saying that Ince was not competative.
Up The Wolves
Mick shouldn’t even consider moving for Gravesen. He was(and unfortunately is again)a total embarassment at Celtic Park. Go for Celtic pair (available) big Bobo Balde and Derek Riordan Mick and work your side around them. See you in the Premiership!
I’m going to Birmingham tonight home of the mighty baggies aye boing boing
We will be bak in da fizzy stuff next season aye boing boing
If you think the wolves are chasing golden oldies, wait till you see me and terry in action tonight !!
121. Freddy in Scotland…Balde is impressive & could have the sort of impact John DeWolf had for us, but is he still any good cause he hasn’t played much for the last couple of seasons?
95. Craig_Wolves. I agree with you. I think our wage structure & ‘young & hungry’ policy simply means cheap & unambitious. Sadly most of the players fans have listed here won’t give us a second look cause they can finish their careers elsewhere on much more attractive contracts. Young untried ‘potential’ players are obviously in no position to make wage demands…which is why we buy them. Kites was a nobody now he’s somebody, & not surprisingly he doesn’t want to be on ‘nobody’ wages any more. I think its more Moxey’s penny pinching than Kite’s greed.
I think a wage structure shouldn’t be set in stone & if it means paying double for the likes of Carsley then do it…cause he’s worth more than 2 of our players anyway. But sadly…we won’t.

Would Be Great For Wolves !!
Take Your Pick People !!
A team needs a mixture of young and hungry + experience. Golden Oldies have a part to play. But the ‘golden’ bit refers to the attitude of the players. The danger is signing has-beens who are in it for a last big pay cheque to boost their retirement. Some players are winners (e.g. Ince) and will give 100% every game just because winning is what makes them tick. No problem with the ‘Golden oldie’ strategy as long as we buy ‘golden’ and not just old’en.
Players like Paul Ince and Denis Irwin have opinions and MM won’t stand for that
Whilst Moxey is CEO at Wolves Paul Ince will NEVER be considered as a potential manager in our view!
A manager that has a personality, guts and ideas will NEVER do as Moxey needs someone who will fit in with his methods and budgets
Young & Hungry = Cheap & Cheerfull - Golden Oldies = Left Overs & Cheap
NB* In our view theres no difference between paying for an experienced player at a higher wage level and signing a cheaper player for a fee of £1.5m (an average Championship fee)
If its done for say 1 season with an eye on a Top 2 spot - surely the possible prize of £60m Prem money is worth it?
EG: Darren Ward - Transfer fee of £400k plus wages of £5k pw? 1 year = £660,000? Was he worth that? Or would it not have been sensible to get either a Prem loanee or maybe an experienced free transfer at centre half instead???
As much as we would love to see Incey in the managers hotseat; we’re afraid that wont happen whilst Moxeys here!!!
After all the decent free transfers are snapped up - we’ll be in for the leftovers - Lets just hope we get a few decent ones!!!
this is soooo funny.
talk about desperation.
lets face it….wolves have lost the plot.
young/hungry or old/past it? it’s laughable!!
big wolf…some of those players you have
listed are embarassing, some you have no
chance of landing at any cost.
hell, why not entice big bad john out of

YES FOLKS ??
I am a contractor that works with many championship clubs. I am well informed that Mick Mccarthy will be replaced as Wolves manager. Steve Morgan has lost paitence with Mick after discussing transfer targets. Rather then look for etablished pros (like Fowler and hasslebank which got Cardiff to the Fa Cup final), the list included no league journeyman such as omalley, riley and obrien. Get ready to see mick moved and the talk is Morgans Liverpool connection will see John Barnes recruited to the top job with Graeme Souness as Director of football to mentor Barnes through.
Football Transfer Rumours Webb Site
John Barnes eh? The man can do a mean Rap on de Mike ala En ger land
That’ll keep Kites happy:
Now ALL together lads!
We’re playing for Wanderers
WAN - DER - RERS!
Rumour has it that Kenny Dalglish was spotted this afternoon coming out of Asda Car Park
Whatever next?
Struth Steve, hope you are right. About time we got rid of Mickey and sent him back to Muppetland. Why the hell they appointed a man who managed a team to relegation with virtually no points is beyond me. Then he had to suffer his arch rival Keane taking Sunderland from bottom to top and promotion beating him on the way. Who were the Wolves plonkers responsible for his appointment?
I have just read Campo’s long letter to Bolton fans on leaving the club. This is a guy with loyalty as well as talent and experience.
cant afford wages, when we have just got a new owner okayyy ?? doesnt make sense :/
Bargain basement and taking the easy way out. Some things never change.
Mad Mick makes it up as he goes along.
His opinions are worthless! Let him keep making an idiot of himself in these articles, as sooner or later even the most stupid of the happy-clappers will realize what a mistake is being made by keeping thos loser on as manager.
131. Steve De Wolf
If only…
Wasn’t a week ago, or less Moxey was relishing a “young squad” of the future? He is as bad as MM. You know he is lying as soon as he opens his mouth.
He just has no idea what he needs other than a pie and a pint to keep his neck size at 20.
