Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has spelled out the club’s determination to hold on to star keepers Wayne Hennessey and Matt Murray for next season’s assault on promotion.
With former first-choice Murray on course to be fit for pre-season training, the two friends and rivals could give Wolves the outstanding goalkeeping duo in the Championship.
Yet already the club are dealing with continued speculation about Hennessey after a brilliant first full season.
Murray’s reputation, although tarnished by injury troubles, remains equally high among Premier League clubs who will be watching their head-to-head duel with interest. Keeping both happy, while only one can play, will be a key ingredient in next season’s challenge.
Moxey said: “We are building a team for the Premier League. Keeping Wayne Hennessey and Matt Murray is an essential part of that process. It would be foolish to think otherwise. This time next year we want to be in the Premier League knowing the one position we will not need to strengthen is the goalkeeping department.
“I know Steve Morgan is getting tired of this constant wave of groundless speculation about Wayne and indeed some of our other players. We spoke on Friday when he was at pains to underline what he has said all along but which the media don’t appear to be listening to – they are not for sale.”
Moxey has enough on his plate in trying to complete the deals Wolves are keen to see through, with efforts to prise Hearts captain Christophe Berra away from Scotland likely to be particularly arduous.
Wolves have offered £1.5m for the 6ft 1in defender, fresh from his first call to Scotland’s senior squad, but Hearts want £2m.

How come no other clubs are trying to sign Moxey.Take him someone. He’s available on a free…

After seeing Morgan on that ‘Millionaires Mission’ It’s clear he’s quite a strict bloke, so hopefully we can retain our better players with him as chairman. Obviously JM is spokesperson for him but this is still quite reassuring.
Just pay the two mill for Berra and have him away before others come sniffing. Get him and Tony Gerrard in and thats a start on sorting out the back four.
Also I wish we were a bit quicker with our dealings, offload a few players if clubs are demanding a certain price tag for targets.
get him in, get the players that dont want to play for us out and lets get on with it!
Yeah, just offload players and sign everyone up who are good.
If only it were that easy. Some people just haven’t got a clue.
Does this mean other players are for sale? i.e Kites & SEB?

I can’t understand why everyone keeps having a go at the E&S. They are a newspaper who’s job it is to report on fact – and speculation. All the tabloids get some right, but an awful lot wrong. At least they have something worth reading everyday. More than can be said for the official site or the other big independants. If I was running the paper, I would seriously consider closing down the comment section for fear of bad publicity affecting sales / advertising revenue. We don’t have to come here – but we all keep coming back don’t we?

he’s gorgeous

Wolves can only play one Goalie, neither of them will be willing to sit on the bench now. So in real terms one of them will be off.
Wanderer89, are you struggling to understand the word “unequivocal” from yesterday’s postings. Morgan was unequivocal in his determination that all of our young players are staying. That means he is determined, and not willing to be moved on that principle.
Now stop trying to wind up other people on here, and get on with supporting the team, the management and the Chairman. How many times does it have to be spelled out to you before you realise they want to keep all of the players not transfer listed at the end of the season, and that they are building for the future? What a putz!!

Bye bye badge kissers Kites and Wayne!

8-Bourne Wolf, The reason that you don’t see postings every day on the official site is that they only write actual news on there. they don’t deal in speculation, gossip, innuendo or downright lies. They don’t have to sell newspapers, they don’t have to wind supporters up, and they will only report something when it is factual and written in stone.
We all know that the E & S has to fill newspaper pages, and we all enjoy a little speculation, but people take too much notice of things written on here, and take speculation as FACT. They then start picking on players and management over things that never actually come to fruition. It’s silly season, and this is the time of year when rumours are rife.
We’re linked with the Carlisle keeper, Westwood.
So, Hennessey out, Murray as number 1 with a reserve on the bench for when Murray gets crocked in pre-season training?? £5m+ in the bank.
(it is silly season after all)

I don`t trust MM to get us up. Whats the point of him being in charge, he`s only going to make these promising youngsters were after hoof the ball. We need a tactician and purist in charge who will get us keeping possession and attacking with flair.
Surely theres another Mowbray out there we could find.

terry arsenal or albion? considering wolves a bigger club im sure he’d leave for arsenal! i dont really mind if wayne leaves 8 mil plus a sell on clause is great business and matt murray is a better keeper we can get schmeichel as competition. albion promotoed but nobody looks at their players and there free! gera or phillips signed yet terry?

Terry – don’t you realise that all wolves fans own their own TARDIS and that they regularly pop back to the 50’s before posting on here…. laughingwilf is actually a timelord !!
Its no good talking about modern day football with them – that doesn’t fit in with their “pioneering” club mentality. In their world the premier league doesn’t exist.
Dunno about pioneering – pieandapint is more accurate these days…

Crappy Happy Braggie. I think it is you that is in a time warp!

30)I agree I am really upset that I won’t be walking up the sloping path to the corrugated Smethwick End and be greeted by the Lord’s My Shepherd and Boing Boing…not!
Terry just because teams are in the Premiership like Bolton, Wigan, Fulham, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Portsmouth etc. does not make them bigger than Wolves, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday, for example!

As those of us with much Moxey experience can confirm, don’t believe all that comes out of the Wolves spin department.
For newcomers, Breretonwolf is really Max Mosely, sorry, I maeant Jez Moxey, the most well know spinner in Black Country football. His giveaway is his unsatisfied desire for another pie!

Do we actually need to great keepers?
If both are fit I’d prefer to sell one and use the money to strengthen other areas.

35- “53 years, man & boy,” sorry, wasn’t I negative enough for you? How dare I try to be a voice of reason in a sea of drivel that earned us the prestigious “Prawn Sandwich Award.” What you, in reality, don’t like is that I don’t do knee-jerk reactions, I support my club,(unlike some “supporters” on here)I refuse to drift with the tide of negativity, I have at least half a brain, (again, unlike some on here) I try to offer a reasoned response to situations, I attend matches, I can see beyond the end of my nose, and notice that the club has a stategy that can work long-term rather than boom and bust. The fact our club is solvent and working towards a long-term future in the Prem rather than a quick promotion followed by instant relegation is largely due to the fact that Moxey has kept a tight rein on finances. Maybe you would rather be like Leeds, Bournemouth, and several other clubs that went gung-ho and ended up insolvent.
I know now why you are 53 years, man and boy. You are in your fifties, but have never taken the time to grow up and become an adult.
By the way, I am not related to Moxey, Morgan or McCarthy. Unlike you, I am interested in the long-term future of the club I support. Sure last season was a disappointment. It wasn’t a disaster, Leicester had that. Tha squad now is much stronger than when McCarthy took over. We are building a squad that can go places in the Prem. The evidence of this is that Prem clubs are after our players. If you had at least half a brain, you would also see that there is logic in what I say. It may not be popular on here, as you have to be negative to earn that. I would rather be unpopular but realistic and positive. Try it for a few days. You might find a life.

The Premiership might be the place for money and being seen on the box. It’s not great, when you need a ticket for an away game or when you lose every week. Bring the season on…!

Terryuglymanboggle, It’s nice of Sandwell to allow their village idiot to come on our sites. I thought Wednesday was the day in Sandwell that the butcher used his bacon-slicer, and the traffic lights changed. Wow!! two big events in one day. The next big event is when you will be relagated at the end of January. You will still have a few Prem games left to endure, but you will be safe in the knowledge that another Midlands team will replace yours in the Prem. (That will be Wolves.)
It will be odd that you lot won’t even be able to fill your ground in the Prem.

34. Jester, it’s just a little bit rich for you to be calling anybody a moron dont you think? (still laughing now over that complete howler, oh, and your explanation for it reminded me of my four year old son when he comes up with some excuse to avoid the naughty step!)
I’m suprised you lot aint holding the door open for your goalies to leave, afterall didnt you miss out on the playoffs because Hennessey let too many in? A particular one I remember being slotted through his legs!
Wolves must be a bigger club than Albion ’cause they keep beating us and constantly finish above us in the league!

48-TerrystrangemanBoggle- I bet all the Prem boys can’t wait to see the fixture list. They will be looking closely at what days they play your lot, as that guarantees them at least six points each towards their survival or other successes.
Remember, it’s less than 11 points that you need to beat the only record your lot are capable of beating. What’s the difference between the baggies defence next season and a collander? The collander leaks less.
So when has Moxey ever said anything truthful, apart from the pie amd pint. We have back up goalies. What it comes down to is which of the two will fetch the most?
Murray needs to go. Can we really handle another three games and a hang nail to get him in rehab for the rest of the season? However he is probably the most valuable. Hennessey is the most in current demand. It’s all going to come down to how much if offered really.
Both staying? as likely as us getting into the premiership this millenium.

Brereton – I’m suprised and not a little dismayed to see how readily you join the knuckle dragging standards of Micheal, Laughing brummie rob ect ect…
I never expected to see ol’ “big brain” posting such things as you have in 46… going straight for the “sandwell” tag, closely followed by the “your coming down, we’re going up” nonsense, and ended off with the old “you can’t fill your ground” gem.
You were slightly more credible when quoting J.Edgar – just recycling dingle dross doesn’t suit you.
If the pain and frustration of your club’s failing, coupled with our continued successes both in the derby games AND in winning the league is too much too bear then I’m sure a clever lad like you can play chess – maybe that would suit you better.
Offer them Murray, at least they’ll keep their physios busy.
As for Happy Baggie’s vision for next season if you get fourth from bottom that’s the absolute best you can hope for.
You won’t be able to attract the quality of players you need to survive.
It won’t have anything to do with drive, ambition, effort, or the “most attractive football played in the championship”, we all saw the evidence when you came up against a premiership team in the FA cup semi final.
You need internationals (not eastern euro trash) and quality. But because of the club, it’s size and its location and low profile, you might have a bit of cash but you won’t have anyone to take it – Kenny Miller’s going cheap though…

Clapham 53 – I tried to respond to you earlier but once again was blocked, so I’l try again and try to less “direct”.
Your post is full of the right wing, nationalistic rubbish that our terraces used to be full of, and unfortunately still attract…
I won’t bother with the obvious dingle “albion are rubbish” nonsense, and i agree that fourth from bottom will be a decent first season.
However, your views on anyone who doesn’t play for EN-GER-LAAAAND just astounds me.
You talk about eastern euro trash like they are second class citizens, never mind the football issues (Gera, Bednar, Koren are all east europeans who would walk into the wolves team – and a lot of prem teams too).
I have been proud to watch my club attract talent from all areas of the golbe – and have enjoyed watching the fantastic football they produce.
Maybe if you were more tolerant, your scouts would bother to look in these places and find players for wolves. Who knows, they may even be good enough to stop you booing for a change.
