Michael Kightly has admitted for the first time that there are problems to be sorted out with Wolves in a summer of speculation about his future.
The 22-year-old England under-21 winger has become the subject of relentless speculation, naming him as a transfer target for a cluster of Premier League clubs.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has swiftly dismissed stories claiming Blackburn, Everton, West Ham and Middlesbrough are knocking on the doors of Molineux for Kightly’s services.
An increasingly-angry chairman and owner Steve Morgan, more determined than ever to hold together the top young players at the club, underlined his “not for sale” policy to Moxey in a telephone conversation at the weekend.
But Kightly says there are issues to be resolved before the new season begins, in a response which will send a shudder down the spine of Wolves fans.
He said: “My agent is going to have a meeting with Jez in a couple of weeks. There are a few things we are not happy about. Hopefully, after that meeting, they can be sorted.”
Kightly is refusing to go into detail about the precise nature of what is unsettling him, in a close season of steadily-growing pressure on Morgan and Moxey to fend off overtures from top-flight clubs.
With Middlesbrough believed to be particularly keen, the most obvious conclusion is the player’s dissatisfaction at the terms of the new four-year deal he agreed last season.
They are sure to be way below what would be on offer from the Premier League and his agent Robert Segal is likely to want that at the top of the agenda.
Kightly has already proved one of the best signings of recent times by Wolves, after his rise from non-League football at Grays.

Bloody agents should be hung drawn and quartered
Typical agents………
All I’m saying is. If Albion can get 10mill for Davies, we should not let Kites go for anything less, why do we need the money? I’m not making out we’re massively rich but we need good players not to cash in on them.
If he wants to stay, then he will stay. If he doesn’t want to stay, then we will sell him for a large amount of money and Lewis Gobern will take his place.
No shudder down my spine, that’s for sure.. just the E&S trying to stir up more trouble, making a ’story’ out of very little.
I really want Kights to stay but in today’s market loyalty is hard to come by, ah well I hope he decides to stay put.
Come on Kights your place is at Wolves.
Christ! Maybe he wants some sort of buy out clause? My guess would be that we have an asking price of something ridicluous like £10m, or a gentlemans agreement (much like Lescott’s) that he thinks won’t be upheld.
It’s squeaky bum time!
anyone offers £4m or more can have him we payed about £150k for him so it would be good business. i wouldnt let him mess us about, he is turning into a big time charlie, we will have very little (or no) impact in the premier league
You could have written the script! I knew that something concerning Kightly’s dissatisfaction at something would be a factor. I hope to God he stays, but saying that, I’m not sure this article truly backs that arguement up!
SOD OFF TRAITOR!!! LIKE CAMARA, MILLER AND THE OTHER SCUM WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT AN HONOUR IT IS TO WEAR THE SHIRT.
Quality player and we need him to stay and build a team round him.But if he dosent want to stay them theres not alot the club can do.Just another example of there being no loyalty in football
He has signed a 4 year deal and sent the majority of this season injured. He cannot expect a payrise after hardly playing, if he does want out we dont want him, but we mustn’t let him go for less than 6 mil or let him rot in the reserves, if he just wants his contract tweaked for more money if we get promoted then fine but he must make more appearances, i hope he’s not getting too big for his boots, don’t forget if it wasnt for us he could still be at greys
I don’t think he is a loyal now as may be a year ago - reason being… The way mick has treated his mate Freddy Eastwood!
Well despite Moxleys and Morgans strong denial there appears to be some truth in what the Grays Chairman has said.I wondered why they were so keen on signing Lafferty looks like he is going to be offered to Wolves fans as a replacement for Kites, Youve got to say hes nowhere near the quality of Kites.
Steve, Jez, you have to hold on to Kite’s. He will be a major factor in Wolves gaining promotion to the promised land next season. Sort out his issues and up his wages if you have to, just don’t loose another potential star.
The Moxey way of running Wolves has been sold to the supporters as building the club around young and hungry players. The alternative way of describing this is that we are looking for good players on the cheap. Players signed from Grays, Scunthorpe and Luton will not be on great wages.
The flaw in building the team up this way and promising jam tomorrow is that when the players do well and Premier League Clubs take an interest, the wages on offer are much more than Wolves are paying nowadays.
I suspect despite Morgan’s wishes that some of our better players will move on, and the three year plan under McCarthy and Moxey will have to start all over again.
Building for tomorrow is a dangerous policy in this game because as people who have been following Wolves for many years will tell you - tomorrow never comes.
Noooo, Kites don’t go, you won’t be playing 1st team football, stay at the club for 1 more year & if we don’t get promotion then feel free to leave, but just stay for 1 more season.
He’s a great player there is no doubt but a bit prone to injury it would seem. He should honour his contract for another season, if he proves to be fit for long spells and on form then he deserves to be one of the clubs top earners, but I dont think he’s proved himself yet.
As a high profile manager myself, I can only emphasize that keeping players happy is all that counts. I treat mine like thoroughbreds, and therefore they play accordingly. Wolves should break the bank to keep him. If he’s insitent on leaving he can always come and play for the Mixres!
Well if you agreed to certain terms last season and they are no longer good enough, then bugger off! No player is bigger than any club.
hang on a moment, this upper class conference player is under contract end of. He aint no steve bull. Sounds to me he starting to get greedy ££££
Fantastic.
Here we go
sounds like knightly wants more cash…. GIVE IT TO HIM! he could earn a lot more in the prem, so we need to make him a reasonable offer to stay… regardless of what players say, its all about the cash…(except old bully!), so we have to get real.. time to change the wage structure..
Whats changed in a season Kites, Mr Agent wants more dollar i conclude. If you dont want to play for us (sad situation given our backing to you) then we,ll take the dosh and move on, dont let him unsettle our wage structure Jez…..
C,mon me babbiees……..
So now there are things Kightly is not happy with. A couple of weeks ago he said he was happy with everything at Wolves. This does not look good, and if its about money will Wolves break their wage structure to keep him?
We’ll see. If he goes I reckon Hennessey will be next followed by SEB…….hope I’m wrong.
I knew this was going to happen after his comments on Soccer AM.
I don’ think this is his agent I thinks it’s Kightly getting too big for his boots. Keep him and let him rot in the reserves!!!!
12.
Freddy and Kites are not that close at all so that has no bearing on the situation.
Its down to money and security on his future.
And i would not be suprised if this “quote” was taken out of context or completely false.
If he wants to go let him go. No point keeping players who dont want to stop it just unsettles the other who do want to stay. All players are replacable.
We need unity this season - not rifts and rows like last season.
What did I say yesterday. It’s all well and good the fat controller getting into his defensive mode but ultimately it’s up to the player. Look at the Ronaldo situation.
Hopefully he will stay but it’s not the end of our promotion prospects, if the worse happened. Gobern should be back and we are linked with Hamill from Liverpool. Another thing we need to keep an I on is that we are linked with Westwood - the Carlisle goalkeeper. If true, I would have thought Hennessey or Murray could go.
Greedy little sod, get yourself fit and then maybe we can talk about a new contract!
Has his head been turned or is his head just getting bigger. A problem we don’t want. So Kightly remember where we got ya from and if you wanna play with the big boys, act it………..
another prima donna one minute stating he wants to play for wolves in the premiership the next his head being turned by intrest from average top flight clubs. not happy with his 4 year contract he only signed 8 months ago. he wants to remember he played 20 odd games last year and did very little to help our push to the prem. another reason mad mick should look at our own young talent they really want to play for wolves. !!!!!!
9. Calm down…Crikey
Kites you are not premier class yet stay and improve playing every game not one every couple of months for a struggling premiership side.
Or is MMMMoooooooNNNNNNNNNNeeeeeeeeeey!!!!!!
He will stay, he has time on his side and he owes Wolves/Mick another season after finding him and giving him the opportunities he was only dreaming about two years ago.
If his agent turns his head and he does one then fine, he will be remembered for all the wrong reasons by alot of fans.
One more season Kites then noone would blame ya for moving on.
Very dissapointed in him, i thought he was a level headed youngester aswell. Sad what a bit of money can do.
What a disgrace! This player was earing naff all 2 years ago playing for a conference team!! He was nothing! wolves have changed his life, turned him into premiership quality and an u21 england international!!! absolutely disgusting they way hes treating us after all we have done for him!!!
OFF U GO THEN KITES
DONT WANT HIM IF HE’S GONNA BE LIKE THAT!
Kites agent is just doing his job and Kites has a responsibility to get the best possible deal for him and his future. This would not have happened if Mick had not played him towards the end of last season. I said at the time that it was like putting him in the shop window.
The premiership clubs can probably double his wage so to all the fans who criticise his loyalty - how many of you would turn down the chance to increase your pay to such an extent.
We are going to lose him unless we pay him the wages and then we will be in danger of the other players wanting a ‘piece of that action’. Moxey has got to realise that if we get premier quality players we have to pay the premier price.
We should never have played him.
His agent is waving pound signs at him.
Look lets sort agents out in football aswell as the 6-5 debate.
agents are a disgrace they just see there 10%.
Kites i think you owe this football club some loyalty, we gave you the opportunity! you have not as yet completed a full season, if you had we would have made the play offs. One more full season will give you good experience, and hopefully a place in the prem. Kites you are better of being a big fish in a little pond than sitting on the bench at a bigger club.
Agents should realise that are playing with players careers. Kites could go to a bigger club and never make it and waste 3 years of his career, look at the winger spurs bought from palace who is now at villa, wot a waste.
if he wants to go let him. he won’t be the same player for wolves if his heart is on a move to a premiership club.Think it will be a step too soon for him & he’d be better staying in the championship for another season.
He obviously thinks he ’s to good for wolves now so i say let him go.
if they want to go you cant stop them. if he does good riddance, i would rather have someone of less ability who wanted the shirt. lets not forget he is just a cockney who will feel no real allegiance to the gold and black.
if Kightly goes i will say he was trash anyroad.
not happy kites??? sod off then, been here and done this with players in the past, if your not happy LEAVE!!! wouldnt mind but we aint had a full season out the lad yet!!! get a nice fee for him, buy ledley from cardiff and put jarvis on right (he actually right footed) sorted!!!
Greedy sod has shot himself in the foot. Get a new agent and while your at it a reality check. Da Da Da Da Greedy *******!!!
i think as much as it hindered us last season
kightly injury will keep him here another season. if he played all last season he would be gone by now
simply offer him new deal and say if we not promoted we will sell you to prem side for xxx amount of money if they offer that upfront if no one does you stay
simple
At the end of the day we own him for the next for seasons and we can do what we want. If Moprgan is as hardnosed in this business as he is in the construction industry Kightly will rot in the reserves unless a premiership asking price is met and we know that for a quality english player you’re looking just short of double figures. Some say break the wage structure but when that happens SEB’s agent and Hennesseys agent will be knocking on Moxeys door with ‘issues’ that the players have. This summer could get very messy if not handled correctly i.e firmly putting the player in his place. Fergie put Beckham in his place so Mcmuppet should be able to keep our lot under control
His agent wants more money. That’s whats happening. At first he will present what he could get if he moves. If the player does not want to move the agent wants the player to get a better deal at the present club. The more the player gets the more the agent gets. Simple mathematics. Kites is no trator. He is in the hands of a greedy agent.
well wat a suorise NOT REALLY,players are just money grabbing **** if i could say it i wud,i mean weres the loyalty gone man we made this player if it was not for us u would still be in conference just remember that kites,u have really let me down, disgrace
end day also we bought him for what 100k sell him for 4m+
good deal in my eyes
sign wayne routledge of the villa for 2m as replacement
Cant blame him…look at the way Freddie was treated.I’D leave rather than play for Muppet Mick.
9..
South Bank is a Sandwell fan beware…
Why did he sign the contract if he wasn’t happy with the terms, lets make a stance like the Glazers over Ronaldo and tell him he can watch the games for the next 2 years in the stands. But i don’t think this is Kightly talking i think its his agent filling his head with £££ SIGNS.
Sandwell Massive, i wish i could agree with you. The reality is now he is believing his own hype and thats down to the agent. If we can’t give him what he wants and it will break the bank to keep him, we should sell but only on our terms and banish him to the reserves until we get what we can for him. As good a player as he is, he ain’t bigger than our club.
Steve Bull Stand….spot on; i honestly believe the whole approach is more about earning as much by reselling these young players as using them to get to the premier
agents, remember henri camara?? filling players heads with “look, so and so and so and so want you, you will get x amount there, get in and hold wolves to ransom” yes, he is a great asset to us, but i am a firm believer of loyalty, where would he be without MM’s scouting? I didnt see a bidding war when we bought him from grays !! so he wouldve probably still been there. Put your agent back in his box kites and show a bit of loyalty to those guys who idolise you week in week out, yes??
I find it amazing that some posters are taking this as gospel and are immediately hanging Kites out to dry on the strength of one weak article printed on the E&S website! Why not wait until you hear the actual FACTS before crucifying the kid? Just because the local paper speculates does not mean that it is truth y’know… as I mentioned in my last posting, if he does actually want to leave then we will deal with it then. Until he comes out and says as much, then no-one should really criticise.
Paper talk - RUBBISH !!! did he really get off a sun lounger on his holiday to say this to someone? or did the reporter who is pressured to fill space in a newspaper make it up???
This is no suprise and the blame falls entirely on Mick’s inability to gain promotion.
If Kites does go and its far from certain you can be assured that SEB and Wayne will think again.
E11 Wolf:
But we had to play him…we had a promotion charge of our own.
Re 39: Good call. I also think we should drop SEB from first team duty in case he scores too many goals and other teams want him.
ok es a good player, but im not overly concerned if he does go, i garuantee we coudl buy someone like halmosi for a quater of what we get for kites. i agree though, with todays football prices i wouldnt sell for less than 8m
the only way to stop all of this is to distribute the Premier’s TV money more equally across the divisions. The Premier should never have broken off from the Football League in the first place 16 years ago. Wages should be cut in the Premier and ticket prices should also be cut. This requires government intervention. The role of football agents should be diminished and it could be argued that there shouldn’t be any in the first place. When did they come into the game, does anybody know? We should not break wage structures as it is the thin end of the wedge. The structure of football is based o n business and greed and it would be in everybody’s interest, including these rich overpaid footballers themselves, to change it. Paying people such huge salaries can only have a negative effect on the way they see themselves and it makes sure that they are separated off from the vast majority of fans who support them. I’d like you to stay Kites but if you go I’m not surprised. The question is whether there are values at Wolverhampton Wanderers for you that go beyond the lure of money. Do you like it here? have you got mates here? Do you like the way the club is run? Do you agree with Mick on the most important things? If you can’t answer yes to three of these questions, it’s best to go!
Agents and money. The ruination of our beautiful game in equal measure.
Up The Wolves
Why would you raise issues with a contract you signed twelve months ago????
It is articles and situations like these that further supports the modern day feeling that fans and players live in different worlds, if only we got back the same amount of support we give them hey!!!
4)you are spot on - no shudder down the spine stuff in this article. Who do these guys (E&S) think they are. Do they believe all football fans are stupid or don’t understand that football is all about business now. Kights will no doubt go for better wages and the chance to play at the heighest level- good luck to him!. A long as we get good money for the lad, then great. We find suitable replacements and move on- that’s life! Andy Gray did not hang around that long ad he was quality!
ofcourse we could always do a west brom and refuse to let him leave or play him, it worked for koumas! and they sold him on at a rediculous fee.
what can probs be that we took him out of non-league footy, that we stood by him in a season where he hasnt played that much cause of injury.
this time guys its not just the agent this is deffo the player and he really needs to think about things cause he aint making himself popular with this sort of thing
and does he really think he is going to play week in week out in the prem or is he just gonna be a squad player, i think the answer is obvious.
so all it comes down to is money once again, what ever happened to the likes of steve bull who stayed for the love of the club when offered the big time
Much as I hate to say it…. if we want to keep him, and I honestly think he wants to stay, then we’re gonna have to apy the going rate. It is laudable what Moxey has done, he’s kept the club solvent but at what price. As i’ve said in other postings, money is the bane of this sport but if we want to run with the pack we have to be prepared to change our ways. I’m not advocating a free for all on wages but I think that players have to realise that some are better than others and therefore worth more. God it pains me to say this but if we want a premiership side we’re gonna have to acting like one with all the financial burden that entails. Mr Morgan we need your millions. Now is the time to tand up and be counted
To be honest these comments (if true) are no real surprise.
A footballer’s career is a comparatively short one and only the foolish would be prepared to settle for terms that could be improved elsewhere. I have little doubt that if the average supporter sitting in the stands was offered the chance of maybe doubling their salary then they would be unlikely to be quite so self-righteous as some on this site are appearing to be today.
Michael Kightly could have been a Premiership footballer next season if he had of retained his fitness all last season and the correct tactics and formations had been in place throughout the season.
I suspect there are also family ties that would encourage him to think about a move to a Premiership team in the South and West Ham (comparatively close to Grays) could be a very tempting proposition to him.
I would hope that next season he will be flying on our wings and one of the driving forces behind a renewed Premiership bid, but if this report is correct then there must be serious doubts as to whether we will ever see him in a Wolves shirt again.
Messrs Moxey and Morgan are unlikely to change their wage policy as this would open the floodgates to other player’s demands which could come very quickly afterwards. Wayne Hennessy for instance is now mixing with the likes of Craig Bellamy at International level whose salary, if discussed, would be sure to raise any young man’s eyebrows. I am equally sure that Michael Kightly has been influenced by stories he may have heard about on his U21 exploits.
A difficult decision for Messrs Moxey and Morgan to diffuse this situation I feel.
59 wolveswolves:
God, the weather is atrocious. I suppose that is Mick’s fault too. You cant KEEP blaming the guy! If Kites wants to go (which has not actually been said or written), how can it be Micks fault?
65
if only bomber………….
If he goes he goes BUT on Wolves terms and not on his or his agent’s.
We do not need the cash so if any Prem. club do want to sign him they will have to find big money.
End of….
very good player but i don’t believe any one player should be priority over the whole team. If he wants to go then so be it. I’d like him to stay but he’s not bigger than the team. You can have 11 good individuals but not the best team. Stoke proved that. Don’t worry ! ! UP THE WOLVES ! !
kightly is getting to me now a couple of months ago he said he still owes MM and the fans alot. which he does stuck by him through his injuries we gave him the chance from non league football, but he still repaid us yet. He brings up issues on his contract which he signed 12 months ago??… no loyalty in the game anymore…
can someone please tell me why footballers need agents am they that thick they can’t make up their own minds?? i don’t think bully has an agent did he, if he did the agent must of been been the poorest agent in the world, because he knows loyalty.
if you want to go mate then go we are wolves no player is bigger than us!!
If its about money i think he is wrong & greedy, but if he thinks MM can`t improve his career and make him a better player i think he has got a point.
oh dear..he,ll never leave the mighty wolves lmao
too big for his boots? maybe….
but if any one of us was offered loads more cash to work at a much better company we would be off like a shot so lets be realistic
it worries me that we are after so many forwards, makes me wonder if SEB is going too - we could lose eastwood, wayne, kites and SEB which are probably the best 4 players at the club, olofinjana could go too but hey!
I changed my job for 4pence more per weeks wages back in 1949.
All these holier than thou loyal supporters. If you were offered three or four times your salary, how fast would you be running to your new job?
We nearly got in the play offs last season - without Kites for most of the season, playing not very good football in a very average league with no outstanding teams. We are making our intentions known in the transfer market and have some talented players to come back ie Gobern, Davies and Gleeson. Jarvis will hopefully be playing a full season. No worries!
As someone said earlier, no player is bigger than this club.
if he wants to leave let him, we only want players that want to play for the club here at wolves, if he leaves lets bring in adam johnson from boro, and lets not forget lewis gobern. we dont want players at the club that think they are bigger than the club. no player is bigger than a club and its about time players started showing loyalty and honouring their contracts or what is the point in signing a contract?
somebody suggested routledge yesturday if he goes either him or sinclair from chelsea on the right maybe michael mifsud from cov?
Hang on….the jury’s still out…Just because he’s after some kind of contract improvement, doesnt mean he wants to leave or intends to hold the club to ransom….Lets hold fire on sentencing him for a while
the fans on here who are sayign give him the money he wants are being stupid.
if we give kightly more money then we would ahve to give keogh more money, SEB more money, foley more money, hennessy more money, henry more money the whoel team more money.
if we do this we are back to square one of having big time charlies and going no where. lets say we give the players the money they want then that means we have less money to spend on players then we can’t improve our squad so means season after season in the championship then the players who wanted the money will leave anyway, so wolves hold your own his on a four year contract don’t sell and if he don’t won’t to play for us then he could always play in the reserves like rosa, but he never moans!!
his probably on £10,000 a week thats £40,000 a month, £480,000 a year and say if kightly plays for the next 10 years and earns that the 4.8 million he would have earned in 10 years.
who earns that in their lifetime?? i dont for one. so i wish fans will stop going on about footballers having short careers. greedy.
I think that the talks with moxey are about him wanting to leave if wolves dont make it to the premiership and mayb putting somethin on his contract which meant wolves have to accept a certain amount of fee if a premiership club comes in for him next season if wolves fail to gain promotion.
hate to say this but look at albion sold their prize assets for ridiculous money and replaced them with hungrier cheaper players and won the league. Sell kightly 6mil sell hennessey 8 mil, replace them with wayne routledge and matt murray with schmeichel as back up job done! the rest of the money can strengthen the midfield and centre back area, kites you were a nobody we have welcomed you sang your name and got you in the england under 21s and in the shop window wheres your loyalty, no player is bigger than this club if you choose go to middlesbrough were get 6 points off you next season and elokobi will give you a good going over!
gregg cooper - spot on.
why do so many posters take a rag like the e&s’s word for gospel. some of the over reaction on here is quite unbelievable.
lets say he is being offered large amounts of money - can you blame him for going ? i wouldn’t - its the way the game is now - i dont agree with it, but the comments made by mark andrews are spot on.
i think the real debate here is what is a reasonable wage to keep kightly at wolves ? where should wolves stop before we’re a) being held to randsome to compete b) destroy dressing room harmony c) set an example to other players that we are either an easy touch, or tight ?
thats the question - how far should wolves go ?
not commited to the club!! off u go
Am i the only Wolves fan who thinks he is not really that good anyway??? In the Derby games, he is nowhere, his dribbling is erratic and i am sorry, give me £4m on a player bought for £50k anyday, Bully in his prime aside of course! I am Wolves through and through but Gera is a better player. Lewis Nytanga is available for transfer - he played at centre helf for Wales at the weekend and at 19-20, he looks someone who can come right in for a reasonably small fee and nominal wages and start as a first teamer. Others who have been mentioned such as Gerrard of Walsall and Williams now of Swansea will need time bedding in. And i do not care about rivalry, why the flip not Kevin Phillips??
Sell Kightly £6m
Sell Hennessey £6m
Sell Oli £3m
Sell Freddy £1.5 m
But do not gibe MM the moeny pay him off Bring in Ince and Give him £12m to spend. These players will move on come what may . So sell em now to save unrest
no player is bigger than a club, the agent is only acting on behalf of kightly.
Michael has got too big for his boots very quickly if he is unhappy over the terms of his 4 year contract. stick him in the stands for a year to teach him a lesson, he’ll still be worth the same this time next year.
I suspect that Kites has had his head turned by a £15-£20k a week offer from the premiership, he’s a young lad with no loyalty to wolves.. if we get £5m for his i say take it.
I have just spoke to my uncle who is mates with paul kightly (brother)apparently stuart pearce has told him to play in the prem asap as he feels he could challenge for a place on the right hand side in the senior squad as beckham is nearing retirement, he wants to get there with wolves but dosn’t want to waste the opportunity, don’t shoot the messenger just what i have been told
This is the first big test of Morgan’s words on the pitch. If we can’t keep Kightly - our player with most potential, then we aren’t up for getting Wolves back into the Premier or build a new stadiun for that matter. I beleive Morgan and Moxey will do the deal with Kightly and keep him here. Come on jez, sort this out fast!
71) Easy Mick is to blame if players want to move to the premier because if it wasn’t for this man we would be in the premiership next year.
If I was a young player wanting to get the best of my career would I stay and work under Thick Mick?…..
We don’t know what his agent is going to ask for. If he is simply asking for an increase in pay due to his current market value I don’t see the problem. It needs to be a reasonable demand otherwise Wolves should and will tell him “no”. Olofinjana has been the biggest earner for some time due to his ability to negotiate sensibly. Let’s see what his agent does.
Most of you lot really are an embarrassment to our football club and city. First of all we have absolutely no idea what his comments are based on, yet Kites is your new villain of the week. And secondly, if it is about money, are you all so pious that your head wouldn’t be turned by mega bucks?? If he read the majority of the comments on here, I’m pretty sure he’d take a pay cut to get away from you imbeciles
not happy =|
we bloody made his career.
im saying this as one of kightlys biggest fans, i love the man but to be fair if this is about money, he’s not the player alot of us fans thought he was.
but with all due respect, i hope it’s sorted out sooner rather than later.
A number of points:
1) If you recall, Man U tried to hijack the Kites deal at the 11th hour which rather puts a lie to the argument that he owes us anything. If Man U were sniffing, it hardly suggests we were the only ones to spot his potential and give him a chance.
2) Yesterday, we were all slagging off the Gray’s Chairman…..the same Gray’s chairman who honoured his commitment to the deal with Wolves when many other Chairmen would have taken the better money on offer from Man U
3) Agents work for their clients and Mr Segal would be failing Kites not to get him a better deal. If 3 Premiership clubs are sniffing and the money on offer is substantially more, the agent would be failing in his job not to try and get an improved offer for his client.
4) If you read Jez’s comments carefully from yesterday, nowhere does it say that Kites is staying or he won’t be sold. The words were very carefully chosen and expressed in very general terms. Moxey is clearly aware that there are “difficulties” and that he needs to be careful what he says.
5) Loyalty! Since when has there been an implied obligation of loyalty in players’ contracts. It’s a short career and any club would cash in on their star asset if they needed the money. As others have said, few would put “loyalty” above significantly increased income and family security and we’re naive and hypocritical to think anything else. If Kites was your son and had the chance of promotion and a 300% pay rise, would you be telling him not to do it for the sake of “loyalty.”
Let’s get real. I want him to stay and would make him the top earner at the club to keep him but I wouldn’t break the bank and if he went, I’d thank him for the £4m profit he’d generated for the club and wish him every success for the future.
I would imagine he has had his head turned when on international duty with England, probably the same way Curtis Davis did with us. After a while some of these players start thinking they are far better than they are.
Just remember no one player is bigger than either of our clubs & can be replaced, very much like Koumas, Kamara & Mcshane were at the start of last season.
lets not get carried away with speculation. However it seems Kightly, his agent and Gray’s chairman are all after a pay day but lets not get carried away after all he signed a 4yr contact recently. It sounds so similar to Man U/Ronaldo situation (the best winger in the Prem has been got at - now the best winger in the Championship). I only hope Steve Morgan has the strength of character as the Glaciers highlighting their threat to leave him in the stands till the end of his contract (you can do that when you don’t need the money).
I agree. What the board should be saying is the same as Man U have with Ronaldo. If you’re not happy you can sit in the Stands and sit out your contract.
If as we’re being led to believe money isn’t an issue we havnt got to bow to pressure
He hasn’t really said much so calm down!
I think he’ll stay but basically if he went to prem he’d earn tripple, so if morgan increases his wages/contract he’ll stop.
Two thoughts….ONE…..his injury problems maybe have him questionning whether he’ll achieve a consistent fitness level again so maybe he wants a bit of financial security in case it all goes pear shaped..? You wouldn’t blame him. TWO…..from his comments not long ago he’s another who’s fed up with negative fans giving stick to the likes of Keogh and Collins. They all see how fickle the muppets in the Molineux crowd are so it’s no use anybody moaning about lack of loyalty….
all this prem talk had ballooned this guys head…michael get yourself fit and play more games then maybe start talking about these things.
no doubt it is about money the greedy little sod!!
i remember in a previous article ”all this premership talk is going over my head, im happy at wolves” not looking that way now
We will not be able replace Kightly he will be a massive loss if he goes.
Yet another who would turn his back on a club that has given him the chance to shine & wants to repay by deserting…
Yeah, he’s a brill player, but if you don’t want to wear the Black N Gold with pride then catch the next bus out of here. This guy cost £20,000 plus, if we sold for 4 million plus add ons then a smart bit of business. There are a few round that we could finance with his departure…who knows, some maybe better…
Bout time players at Wolves got back to showing loyalty..play for the shirt, the club & the fans, not for youre bank balance….
No player will ever be bigger than this club, if it aint for you Kites then take a hike before people start see the real motives…bringing back hanging for agents would be a class start, wev’e had enuff of em…
Mikey boy must have got himself a WAG that’s why he wants a higher pay.
A COMMENT FOR US ALL WOLVES FANS!!!!!
What gets me is that how come wolves as a football club is suddenly a feeder club to the so called bigger bigger teams. We get good players in aka Lescott for example and as soon as they get good they get sold. Now I for one dont blame Lescott getting sold, he did get us to the premiership but injury prevented him playing in “that” season, he stayed following season but it was not to be and I guess Moyes forced Moxey’s hand. Anyway Kites is good, but there is no way why he needs to be sold, we dont get any gain from it apart from finacial and we would be left with finding another players to fill the void “PLEASE NO STEPHEN WARD!”
If Kites is asking for more money then I think his attitude is a disgrace! If it wasnt for wolves he may well be languishing at Grays or probably in southend reserves. He needs to realise that Wolves is a great club, fantastic fanbase, tradition, and on the verge of something special over the next few years. He can be a part of it, he just needs to knuckle down and play football. Perhaps wage structure at the club can tbe tweaked but not wholesale changed otherwise you will get a group of players who then want to become big time charlies!
If he wants to go then let him go. Lets face it, going to the likes of Middlesborough or blackburn is really going Big time isnt it!
Kightly has got a new agent (Keogh’s agent)and he is telling him he can treble his wages at a Premiership club.
Alot of prejudgement going on here…all speculation, and 105, you’ve fallen into the media trap by the looks of it.
Let the club sort it out. Every player has his price…Ronaldo’s is more than our squad, Kights is somewhat less but 6-7 million would be a great deal for a player attracting attention, if it should happen.
Its would finance our promotion push, Berra and all other targets. It would be sound business. But no-one wants to see him go anywhere of course.
Well said 24… Completely agree!
no.9, you are a moran, we do not know what the issues are yet and it could be the e & s talking rubbish to sell papers, be patient before you start slagging the players off because you could be made to look a fool!! maybe he feels he should be earning top money at the club along with seb, seyi, murray which he bloody well deserves because he is a premier star in the making.
So lets wait and see what the issues are before we start jumping the gun, some of you either need to calm down or think before you type!!
Crikey - it don’t take much for you lot to get the rope out does it ??
Based on very little, your ONLY top quality player has gone from “boy wonder” to Fred West in 2 paragraphs…
Honestly, no wonder A) No one likes you & B) No one wants to play for you.
Is it any suprise you are voted the worst fans in the country - I really hope kightly sees this page.
if he wants to leave let him go. Mickey Gray was one of our brightest players this season when playing right wing, and with Gobern coming back things are looking decent. we have no need to panic and offer kites big bucks
The word FICKLE comes to mind. The newspaper prints what it will, some of you automatically believe it immediately, and start crucifying a player who has always shown his loyalty to the club. Who knows whether he has said anything? Who knows whether his agent is trying for a bit of extra cash for himself? (Those poor old agents, working their fingers to the bone for pittances.)
Let’s not go knocking a kid who yesterday was the greatest thing since sliced bread. (except to 90-Newport away, who is obviously a WUM who knows nothing about football.) It may well be true that this has not been said, and if it was raised it may have been misquoted or taken out of context. Time will tell. IF HE GOES, and there is no proof that he wants to, good luck to him. He has always given 100% for the Wolves.
Perhaps its nothing to do with money, or his agent. MM,s not bad at spotting youngsters and bringing them in and getting them to play as a team together. Perhaps its the fans that are making him unhappy with the moaning and groaning, what ever we post, what ever we say will not make much difference to the business side at Wolves, so lets all get together, whatever happens and support the team MM puts out, you never know it might just help, might make some of our players feel a bit more loyal.
All together now … We,ll keep the gold flag flying high…..
following my comment (63 Mark Andrews) when will people get together and address the real problems in football today? We need to stop directing anger towards Morgan or Kitely or McCarthy and together put pressure on the government to intervene and put a stop to the enormous wages and ticket prices. It is only by doing this that the Premier will become a more competitive division and teams in lower divisions will be able to keep their best players. This involves getting together for a huge demonstration in Hyde Park, Trafalgar Square or Wembley to put these issues on the national agenda. When are we going to wake up and save out beautiful game?
In fairness Wolves fans some genuinely good points on this matter!
as a baggies fan I sympaphise and 100% agree that some of these players dont know how lucky they are to be wearing the badge of west bromwich albion and wolverhampton wanderers!
Kightly was playing for Grays 3 years ago and in the last 2 seasons has saw himself on the brink of the prem!
i personally wouldnt read into these comments and i actually think he will be at wolves next year due to wolves pricing teams out the market!
the only transfer i can see is if mark hughes goes to man city, i think wolves might expect 6.5 mil to be honest!
i personally wouldnt touch him, i think hes a huge injury risk, in the same way i wouldnt have touch curtis davies for 10 mil
Another example of players getting too big for there boots!
If he goes to the prem I hope he ends up like Henri Camara…rotting in the reserves!
Come on Kites!
As England’s domestic football pre-season, or should that be silly season begins, rumours within the Black Country have become rife that Wolverhampton Football Club owner Steve Morgan is looking to cash in on the clubs redundant trophy cabinet.
The season 2007/ 2008 has been yet another boring, low scoring and trophieless one for the ‘massive’ West Midlands outfit. With the threat of losing first team stars Wayne Hennessey and Michael Kightley to ‘massiver’ clubs Morgan has said he is willing to listen to offers and has decided to place the cabinet on popular web based auction site ‘Ebay.’
The cabinet crafted from MDF is believed to be in ‘Pristine’ condition and measures 6ft in height by approximately 3ft in width. Bids start at £0.99 and a reserve of £17.50 is thought to be slapped on this fine piece of Wolves memorabilia.
A Wolves Spokesperson admitted “This might be seen as a negative step by some of our supporters” he continued “As usual the board of directors will do everything in it’s powers to keep this club as big as everybody thinks it is, although it’s not really that big anymore, but we say it’s big, because everyone knows we used to be big, but we will once again be as big as we used to be when we were bigger”
91) ridiculous!
How about keep kightly, oli, hennessy AND Mick and be 60million better off next season!
and as for michael, massive dissapointment son. I thought you were a true footballer… disgrace. I honestly wouldnt mind seein him go after these comments.
Charlo….like your style mate !!
114) HB I hope he sees these pages to, bring him back down to earth.
southbank barmy army, don`t slag him off before you know the facts! And wheres the honour in the shirt these days, fact is he probably doesnt want to play MM`s huff and puff long ball tripe.
Anyway he aint that good, lets face it against the better teams in the CC he doesnt turn up. Taking the £5m wouldnt be so bad.
124-Shrewswolf, I hope he doesn’t see them. He will realise what a small-minded, wilful, judgemental bunch of whingers we have at this club. A group of “supporters” who will sleight his character with no knowledge of whether the “statements” attributed to him are true. Get a life folks. THIS MAY BE TOTALLY WITHOUT SUBSTANCE!!!
Happy, quite agree mate. It seems we always have a spare length of rope !! I still think the guy is worth extra cash - he’s quality and we nee d him. Like I said on another post some are worth more than others - it’s a fact of life.
SANDWELL, YEP FAIR POINT MATE, OH I FORGOT THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WEAR THE SHIRT WITH PRIDE AND LOYALTY TODAY..
ARE THE BLOODY SUPPORTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest if Kites is unhappy or unsettled, he knows where the door is and we know we’ll be banking a few million from him leaving. I think his wants to move on to further his ambitions in his playing career and when clubs like West Ham, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn are knocking on your door, you’d want to move to play in the Premiership thats understandable, but making a fuss in the media isn’t helping his or our cause, i wouldn’t be suprised if we’d be booing Kites the next time he steps out at Molinuex wearing a different shirt. In addition to this, its not like we don’t have players to step up to his position, honouring the shirt has no meaning in these days, its all about money and becoming a celebrity to a certain extent.
Keep The Faith, WE ARE WOLVES.
121. Wow you are a joker, just cause you’ve got your first title for 80 years in the cabinet there’s really no need to attempt humour, and point out every word thats meant to be funny with ‘apostrophes’.
Regarding the article, you can never tell how much of this is just pure invention, there is after all only one sentence from the player, the rest is filled out to make up yet another sensational story, preying upon wolves fans fears. I wonder what acountability this paper offers itself to the club and its fans
125, Why are you using my name?
I spell Sandwell with a capital as well.
In Mick I trust.
Here we go, here we go, here we go…
What was the name of that striker again. You know the one. The one who was crowned God by the faithful but then went on strike? Striker by nature, striker by nature.
Here we have another player crowned God by the faithful. Will it be winger by name, whinger by nature?
Or is this an Express & Star space filler?
For all you lot know - the things he wants to discuss may not be money - he may want some assurances about the players coming in and about not selling your better players (like his mate Freddie)…
If he doesn’t feel that wolves will be a real force this season why would he stay ??
I doubt if he just wants an extra 5k a week - he wants to be successful.
Ban All Agents. They aren`t inerseted in the players they are only interested in their cut.Kightly wants to remember who plucked him out of non-league football and gave him the break,he also wants to remember who payed him and looked after him during hi injury lay-off.Come on Kites, remember what you said when you joined Wolves, show a bit of loyalty.Nuff said ?.
wheres kentwolf gone I hope hes oright
Good riddance to another player who is only interested in lining his own pocket! A typical modern day footballer.
114, if you read the official fans list you will find that bolton are the worst check the link you idiot
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article770847.ece
we were voted the biggest moaners and remember its not all of fans who moan its probably because the fact we have spent so much money over the past 13-14 years its envatable that some of the fans get disgruntled but because we attract big crowds for this level the fans moans are heard more than most of the other clubs, also were you or were you not booing dean kiely last season and getting on his back?! we may moan but we are there week in week out so no-one can question our loyalty for the club
Oh, will all of you idiots shut the hell up!
Are you going to boo Kightly next year as well? Just because this rag are speculating doesn’t mean it’s true!
The only actual quote by Kights is:- “My agent is going to have a meeting with Jez in a couple of weeks. There are a few things we are not happy about. Hopefully, after that meeting, they can be sorted.”
He doesn’t say he is looking to move. He says he is hopeful that the “few things” can be sorted. That sounds positive to me. The fact that they are “little things” would point at the fact that they are not insurmountable. The fact that Kights hopes they can be sorted in one meeting doesn’t point to him wanting to move elsewhere. He wants them sorting, and doesn’t even hint at demands to leave if they aren’t.
Don’t we all have annual reviews with our bosses? I have a meeting every year with my bosses, and we discuss things we would both like to see happen in the coming year. We are always hopeful that things can be sorted so that we can move forward together.
Please get off this lad’s back.
Happy_Baggie
Fair point it could well be that and I would say these players aren’t always correct though. Look at Kamara and McShane, they no doubt left Albion for those reasons and you’ve proved them to be wrong, sometimes think players and agents shouldn’t start thinking they know to much.
i think his agent has just had a heart to heart convo with him and filled his head with nonsence. if he wants to go, then at 4mill or more would be a great deal.
think of what we could get in return eh? should buy anthony gerrard, berra, lafferty, mclean and two other centre backs. any suggestions?
should be ashamed kightly, what happened to the footballers who played for the love of the sport?
Tee hee! *rubs hands together with glee*
In all seriousness, you should sell him. He’s overated, like most young English lads, and he obviously wants to leave. Get the £4m and run, invest it in the squad and you’ll be fine.
That Jarvis is a much better player anyway. Your midfield could be fairly decent next season…
Jarvis Edwards Olifinwhatshisname Lafferty
Not bad! A couple of defenders, a striker to compliment SEB and either keeping Hennessey or keeping Murray fit for a season and you’ll be heading for a playoff spot.
Keep the faith Dingles, we want our Black Country derby in the Prem where it belongs.
137 - I’ve checked the link you added - Bolton were voted worst “home” fans - not sure what that means…
Wolves were voted worst whingers… and what do think this page is full of ???? Fans with no knowledge of the facts whinging about the one player you have worth watching !!
So I think my description is accurate - If that makes me an idiot then what the hell does it make you ??
133,happy, if he wanted to be succesfull why did he goo there in the fust place boing boing aye
kites if you do read these comments remember some of our fans are never happy! when I met you in rileys a couple of years ago you seemed like a stand up guy who is not a money grabbing so and so, cheers for the pint
After a number of sensible posts from wbabomber, I see some of the other hilarious Albion fans are on our pages, as they have nothing to talk about on their own due to zero transfer activity apart from the QUALITY signings last week.
As for Kites being our only quality player. What a joker…!
I will list them - Hennessey, Murray, Davies, Jarvis, Ebanks-Blake and the following are names for the future … Little, Foley, Elokobi, Gobern, Gleeson, Vokes and Keogh.
Now get ready for your shift at McDonalds.
i hope he is not getting to big for his boots and seeing stars because of all the hype!good player for us(very good)but he still as a lot to do to be a premeirship top player!
Kightly has done nothing wrong, he simply says he wants to discuss a few things. Do other people not do that with their bosses.
He probably saw how we performed last season when he was injured.Unless we start spending money on GOOD players we will lose all our decent players. So come on Steve & Jez start spending some REAL money the supporters deserve it.
I think he is a star for the future but like all young players once they get called up in the England International set-up and speak to Premiership players regarding salaries they become very unsettled, I remember talking to Bryan Robson about it when he first got called up for England and the Liverpool and London based players mocking him about his salary. Wolves should say ‘you signed the contract and you should honour it !!’.
No player is worth more than the club-Michael Kightly included. If he doesn’t like it,then sell him on and make a profit-there are plenty more quality players out there.
146,ROB,there are no quality players in the championship, thats why they are in the championship cuz they got no quality, theres only quality in the prem, thats why we in the prem cuz we got quality boing boing
I have met kites recently and do not think he is the sort of person who would leave us because he wants more money. If he is unhappy then there is no point him being at wolves as he wouldnt play or he wouldnt play his best. I am a 100% kightly fan and would absolutely hate him to leave. But he gotta do what he feels right.
There is still a possibility that all this is being exaggerated and that kites is staying. Lets hope.
happie-baggie, spot on. You’ve hit a raw nerve yet again. Turning on our own, based on pure speculation. I sometimes feel so ashamed of some of my fellow fans. If our `best player` leaves for whatever reason, bon voyage Others will come. If he feels no loyalty, well, that’s the modern game. He is only looking after his own interests for the future. Even Manchester United are experiencing their players being unsettled. It’s the modern business and it is not going to improve. The old days and ways are gone. Our most loyal players have been the lads brought through the youth teams; let’s hope Gobern is fit and able. Hope this is a storm in a teacup as he is a useful player.
Perhaps if we managed to get promoted one day then these mediocre premier league clubs coming after our players would stop. Trouble is we never get promoted, same every year.
RayG
More chance he heard our idiot fans (minority).
I think these articles are like a red rag to a bull. When I read it I thought fair enough he is looking for a salary to reflect his increase in value. However, after reading posts on this page, it would appear that he should be hung, drawn and quartered for such a normal request! Do not condemn the guy before you know all of the facts. Such Bi-polar reactions are no good for the club or the players.
93,laffin, ive just spoke to my brothers mates mate and is dads brothers sisters cousins friend who knows a bloke who knows kites 2nd cousin and he said that is uncles father in law who knows his 3 cousin said he aint heard nuffin, boing boing
Where do you get that kites owes you anything. The recognition he has recvied is due to his performances. You make it sound like your training turned him into the player he is. Man U wanted him so he obviousy was decent to start with so the chances he would still be in greys reserves are slim. Anyway he is overarted if robbo can keep him in his pocket what are top top class full back gonna do. Get the 4 mill wish him well and move on. It didn’t do us any harm last year.
What a diffrence 12 months makes lol
39. Couldn’t agree more. Who could honestly say that if they had the chance to double their salary with another company, they would say “No thanks, I want to be loyal”
You wouldn’t see me for dust!
PS. Don’t go Kites!
Think it would be a complete disaster if we lost Kites.
If Kightly was as loyal as everyone wants him to be he would still be playing for Grays and trying to get them promoted, but he left them to further his career and earn more money, why should that stop with us?
In 12 years he will be facing retirement! and where were we 12 years ago? hmmmmmm
#Does nobody else think that these issues are important? There are endless discussions on forums and on five live about individuals and their motivations but there is never ever any attempt to challenge what is really wrong with the way football is organised at the moment, could somebody reply to this even if they disagree.
mark andrews said: Jun 3rd, 2008 at 12:13 pm
the only way to stop all of this is to distribute the Premier’s TV money more equally across the divisions.

WILL ALL KNOW WOT RUNS FOOTBALL NOW DAYS…MONEY MONEY MONEY..LEY HIM GO..THE WALLET RULES..
well, no kites and another season under the muppet are two very good reasons to be grumpy.
Pah !
Kites if you read this, heres my advice:
If you are not happy with your contract GET A NEW AGENT NOT A NEW CLUB!!!!.
He was the one who got you the deal.
Debenham wolf says: “If he feels no loyalty, well, that’s the modern game……It’s the modern business and it is not going to improve.” Do you and others think that there is nothing that can be done to regulate salaries and ticket prices and all the reasons why Kites might be tempted to leave us? We need to find ways of constructively opposing what is happending to our game beginning with bringing the Premier league back into the football league. Football should not be a business,it is
much more important than that for local communities, families, links with the past and local identity.
how can he stay at a club that plays dire football.come down the hawthorns kightly and we will show you the champagne stuff
152) Terry shows that you know nothing about football. Ramsey from Cardiff had 3 of the biggest sides in the Premiership/world after him today.
Gloating now… somehow I doubt whether you will be able to in a few months time!
We cannot allow ourselves to be held to ransom. If he is not satisfied with the new contract HE negotiated last season then it is time to cash in.
does he want to wear the gold and black?i dont think so,i think hes getting a little bit greedy, let him go!!
133 Happy_Baggie
Thank the Lord for a small voice of reason in among all the hyperbole. The only sad thing is it took you, a baggie fan to voice it. Nice on pal!
Up The Wolves
Kites is under contract end of story unless 10 million is offered.
As I have been pointing out for sometime on this site, no one seems to know who is doing what at Wolves ?
McCarthy tries to sell some players he bought in and Moxey backs him ? You employ a rugby man to do a soccer man’s job and now Morgan wants to keep the players that are on the transfer list ? Comments from McCarthy about he has the best squad in the league, but trying to flog most of them and missing out on playoffs again ? Should be renamed MAD MOLINEUX !
It is great to be a Baggies fan !
Thats rubbish sandwell getting something daft like £10mil for curtis davies then darren potters worth £40mil I think you talk of ebanks-blake for £4mil then curtis davies is worth 1k which he should be anyway
All I’m saying is kites is £10mil hennessey £13mil and ebanks-blake £12mil if curtis davies is worth 10 mil
Michael Kightly du du du
Hennessey
na na na na na na Sylvan Ebanks-Blake
Let him go. He has progressed well in a short space of time - but he isn’t world class - or premiership class yet.
If I was Kites and I’d read some of these posts, I’d have started packing
160, yes, i agree but thing is he earns a month more than some of us do a year, more than enough for a comfortable life, im not slating the guy because he is quality, but give us another year, and if no promo then by all means seek your fortune mate!!
Has Kites forgot he was playing non-league football so recently in front of 100 people??. Get your loyalty’s sorted, get yourself fit, and get us promoted.
Sounds to me that the agent want his big fee’s and Kightly has become greedy and fazed by the bright lights. If his heart aint at Wolves and he forgets who plucked him from none league then he can just sod off. He seems to think he’s better than he really is.
Greed that’s what’s unsettling him, it happens to most players unfortunately!
Ever since I saw his half arsed commitment when he was on Soccer AM the other week I knew that he wouldn’t be hanging round!
Can’t fault a player for wanting to better himself but if his heart ain’t in the club then he should walk away and we’ll move on, no hard feelings and all that!
Stay calm its all talk, I tell you what is bad, finishing 7th in a poor division.
were aiming for promotion!!!!!!!! kights seems to have highlighted fare pay next season.
so kites wants talks-what for exactly-he was happy enough to sign a four year contract and pick up his money whilst being out injured, the club should make him honour it-END OFF.
BAGGIE THE ONLY WAY ROBBO STOPED KITES WAS BY DOING WHAT BAGGIES DO WELL-KICKING HIM OFF THE PARK.
