Persimmon Homes today became the third housebuilder in Wolverhampton to reveal it was cutting jobs due to the credit crunch, which has hit demand for new properties.
The firm employs 50 people at its city base and it is not yet known how many are facing redundancy.
The announcement comes after Wolverhampton companies McInerney Homes West Midlands and Bryant North Midlands, both based on Pendeford Business Park, last month revealed they too were shedding staff.
Dominic Harman, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Midlands, based at Venture Court, Broadlands, Fordhouses said today: “Regrettably a number of redundancies are to be made and staff have entered into a consultation process.
“Naturally this news is very disappointing and we do not know at this stage exactly how many office and site-based employees will be affected. We can, however, confirm that we will not be closing the West Midlands regional office.” Mr Harman blamed “challenging trading conditions” which have knocked confidence in the housing market.
Jobs are due to be shed between July and September.
