Space Agency NASA will be transporting the name of one Black Country man beyond the far reaches of the solar system on its next expedition into space.
Sandwell Councillor Martin Prestidge is not ditching the day job as member for Langley ward, but is one of millions who has submitted his name to be included on a DVD carried on a NASA rocket next year.
Former BT worker Councillor Prestidge, aged 65, who is also a keen radio ham enthusiast, said: “I came across the scheme on NASA’s webpage, which I check regularly.
“I have been fascinated by space travel ever since I heard the signals from the Sputnik One on short wave radio as a teenager back in 1957. Like millions of others I watched the original moon landings and it will be nice to know that one day my name will, along with those of lots of other people’s will be out there in space.”
NASA announced an opportunity for anyone to submit their name to be included on a DVD and rocketed into space earlier this month, as part of NASA’s Kepler Mission.
The mission aims to discover Earth-like planets beyond the solar system and the rocket is scheduled to launch in February 2009 from Cape Canaveral.

I believe that we should commit to the goal of landing a man on Cradley Heath and returning him safely to the earth.
What a conceited man, but also what a shame we cant submit people to be rocketed into outer space, the whole of Sandwells Labour would be my choice, they live on another planet anyway judging by the rise in council tax and the reduction in council services.
