Seyi Olofinjana insists he wants to stay at Wolves – but admits things haven’t gone ‘as planned.’
The Nigerian international has been linked with Albion and Sunderland in recent days, both of which are untrue. But the 27-year-old midfielder wants to stay at Wolves to win promotion.
“I’ve got a contract to 2011. Because we haven’t made it in 2008, I’ll try to do it in 2008-09, 2009-10 and the season after,” said Olofinjana.
“I’ve not spoken to Wolves but the chances of me remaining here are very good. I’m very much looking forward to the season with Wolves.
“If something comes up, I will check it out to see if it’s the best thing for me to do, but I’m in no rush. If offers come in, a lot of things would have to happen for me to leave – even if it was a Premier League club.
“But if it was down to money, I would have left Wolves long ago. Respect is vital for me and I feel I have become so familiar with the fans and the whole bandwagon, so it would take something special to take me away.
“It was a really frustrating season for me and my performances weren’t always the best. I think I was below par and a little disappointing. People are very fickle but they expect so much of us as a team and that can weigh very heavily.
“For myself, I don’t think it’s been all bad, but it’s not been great and not what I planned.”
Olofinjana added: “I have never had any doubt about the desire of the club to play in the Premier League. Wolverhampton Wanderers belong in the Premier League – they are only marking time in the Championship.
“Everyone wants it so much to happen. But I’ve still got that desire to do well and as long as I’m still a Wolves player, I will continue to do my best.”

“But if it was down to money, I would have left Wolves long ago.”
I wonder where his priorities lie? At the end of the day, all this ‘I dont undertand my loss of form’ is rubbish. The reason is that he is lazy, and when Edwards was played and put Georges place under threat, miraculously, the boy hit form.
Some of you really rate him, and on his day I cannot argue, but thats 4-5 games in a season where I feel like he is giving 100%.
In my opinion, this article does not really suggest he is totally commited. I would probably sell!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
wish he would go and take potter with him.
most OVERATED player in championship!
nice to hear. hes been gettin a lot of unfair stick recently. i think he is one of our best players
basically saying if a prem team comes in for me i’ll be more than happy to talk to them.
Take a long hard look at yourself George - your lack of quality last season epitomised the unacceptable standard we witnessed on a regular basis. Get a good pre-season under your belt, come back in August firing on all cylinders as we know you can do, and take hold of the midfield position like your life depended on it. Only a vast increase in endeavour, application and quality will dictate whether or not you remain at the club.
Well done Seyi you have just added another 500k onto your transfer fee for potential suitors!
On the basis of ast season I would sell and get some new blood in?
the problem with george is he is fantastic when he is playing on his instincts but if given time he takes too many touches
he cant tackle and doesnt jump for the ball
bearing in mind henry is our sitting player george should be charging forward at every oppourtunity but he doesnt do that either
£3m???? take the money Jez!
The headline is misleading too - he doesnt say he wants to stay at wolves just that he will do as long as no better all round offer comes in which i dont blame him for one bit but lets have things accurate!!
On his day he can be quality but we cannot afford to play him and Henry together anymore.
Hopefully we will have Davies and Gleeson back, Edwards fit and will be signing one or two. Then there will be fierce competition for a shirt in a very important area for us!
mad MM is to busy buying Forwards, who cant score
Great news “Oli” You are doing a cracking job at the mol
9. like luke moore??? oh sorry its the baggies who have brought him!!
One of Wolves’ quality players and a very decent man. Vital we keep him.
I can’t believe he is getting slated on here, infact I can as for a few regular posters it is their daily release.
That has to be one of the most honest interviews I think I have ever read.
Olofinjana has loyalty and gives his all to our club. I would be glad to see him stay.
I’m a wolves fan and all this best MF in champ is aload of rubbish, George is great on his day but doesn’t get stuck in enough for my liking. Get a Midfield general a-la-Ince.
top man!
George im afraid im not not bothered if you go. You are very one dimensional, and dont score enough goals, lets face it wolves fans this guy isnt good enough and he dosent fit in with the balance of our side. With Henry sitting in the Makalale role which he does well, we need a goalscoring action time midfielder, maybe Dave Edwards is the man, maybe henry should go it only my opinion. Would love to see some real intent from Wolves and go get harper from reading.
3million for some onewho cant head, cant tackle and cant shoot is good mooney
just remember football is all abot opinions and all though I dont rate george I have not critisised the positive views on him on this site.
If someone is prepared to pay £3million get rid of him now!!!
i think we can all agree that “ON” his day he is a quality midfielder… the only problem is that his “ON” day is the same as my misses… about once a month!
What about the comment about people (ie fans) being fickle..?? If Keogh had said that the muppets would be going mad….
Think people need to read the story. He admits he played poor last season. He was great the season before. We all see little bits of what he can do.
The best thing about this article it shows he wants to play for Wolves, thats what we want. He want to be successful with Wolves. Thats what we all want, got a better chance with players that want the same than players that dont care!
Hes good when he wants to be but strong in midfield. we just need someone who can create & shoot!
play better and you can stay.
Its hard to judge him as he played in a very average team (read your own comments last season before you disagree).
Some of you say he is the Vierra of the championship - others don’t rate him.
He obviously has “something” and maybe in a decent side he will flourish…. worth a 3m punt to find out.
Maybe he needs to play at a higher level to fulfill his potential, a bit like Lescott has had to; he has always come across as very genuine to me and you can’t say that about a lot of players can you?
Without being too critical of Oli I say this -
Ince, Rae, Bailey and Highes would all cringe at the lack of fight and spirit at the centre of our midfield. Oli - you are 6ft4″ 12 stone and cannot win the ball in the air or a decent 50/50 tackle!
WE need another of the afore mentioned type players and a Skipper that makes his presence on the field count even when he is playing badly. MM TAKE NOTE!!!
He kind of sums up Wolves season really. Definate quality but lacking in consistency of performance. Hasn’t succeeded as far as I’m concerned so wouldnt be a big loss if he goes. But who’s going to splash out big money on him?
wembley66, good comment. Oli is the almost player he and a lot of people think he is. For a ‘powerhouse’ he is not so powerful.
He is a trier, he has good games but also little impact at times.
If the money was right (£3-4m?) then I would certainly consider it.
Nice bloke, trier, but needs some aggressive fire from somewhere. If he found that, no problem with him driving Wolves to a higher level.
“If something comes up, I will check it out to see if it’s the best thing for me to do, but I’m in no rush.”
Errrrrrr - so you are committed and loyal and happy as Larry with us, but yet you would think about it if something else came up…………??
If we had a couple of other good midfielders fighting for the shirt every game we would see just how good Oli can be but this season he spent too much time in the comfort zone knowing it was unlikely he would get dropped. I guarantee that you put him in serious competition for a place in the starting line up week in week out and he will be the best midfielder in the division next season
Oli’s best season for Wolves was IMO the 06/07 one,but thought he was poor last season, maybe its time he was given a fresh challenge somewhere else.I believe we missing two midfielders who can 1) win the ball and put his foot on it,and 2) who can find the net on a regular basis,i felt thats what we lacked last season.
we know his not the best midfielder in the league but keep him in the starting 11 and get rid of henry. 1 creative midfielder to play along side him mick please.
he simply isn’t good enough,he hides in games and goes missing for twenty minutes periods, simply not up to it. if we are serious about improving on last years apalling season we need a top class midfielder who can take games by the scruff of the neck.
happy baggie,do you work?because each time i come on here ya talking about wolves? u r SAD,concentrate on ya own team,by the way,id go on sky bet if i was u ,the odds r great for westbrom coming down!that will give u something to write about, lol.
Of course he wants to stay. What player wouldn’t want to stay where the manager puts no pressure on and doesnt hold any player accountable for their errors, poor play, lazyness and lack of quality. I wish I had a boss like Mcarthy!!!
1) eddie wolf
olifinjana is not lazy,he says the loss of form was down to his african nations exploits, and i believe him
yeh he’s a professional footballer but it must be hard travelling halfway round the world playing in a climate unfamiliar to what your used to, adapting only to return to england a few weeks later.
I do agree george was poor this season, but i also think that without him wolves would be a lot poorer side!
Please stay george!
34 - wow - who would have thought it - a bookie making a promoted team third fave to get relegated (with the other two promoted teams)
Did you also check the championship odds ?? I can’t believe it - you aint favorites - or 2nd faves - or 3rd faves…. and on Hills AND paddy power you are 7th faves for promotion - or to put it another way - out the playoffs again !!!
However Hills have us above Bolton and Fulham, stoke and Hull….thats safe !!
Yes Happy but remember they won things in the 1950’s they are a big club, they are only in the CCC because they want to be. Just remember they do the little Holiday they had in the Prem. All the Money they spent, and that stupid temp stand in the corner of the ground, that really made a statement we are only here for 1 season.
how can all u wolves fans slag of big george? to be fair his form did dip more towards the ACN but thats because he wanted to play at the highest level, but for quality and ability he is the best in the wolves team no doubt and dont forget most of the season hes been playing near enough on his own with henry next to him
baggies fans. enjoy your prem season, you don’t have the money nor plan to stay up. we are building for the future. In the next 3 years at wolves we will cement our place amongst the finest in the country. champions of europe by 2012… i’ll go get another beer.
39) The temp stand in the corner was better than the poxy Smethwick end. What a cattle shed. I have been in every side of your ground and only the East Stand is any good!
40 - well said
I hope he goes to the Albion because they will be playing with 10 men each week, he won’t last long with Mobrey because he is lazy and over-rated.
We don’t need him with Edwards, Davies, Gleeson,Foley(Yes he will be a better mid-field player than the others).
I just hope we get 2 defenders.
Well said Oli (13). George is one of the few premier quality players we have got and whilst his form was patchy last season he is a superb player and clearly commmited to our club!
Don’t all the negative joe’s on here usually call out for commitment from our players? Isn’t that a quality that the average fan wnats to see form a player? On his day he’s the nest player we’ve got and i’m sur ehe’ll come good next season!
40 - What’s that smell!!
Mr Smug - Is that champions of Europe, don’t you finish the top 4 of the prem for that??? Quality!!
In 2008 in the league we lost 5 matches and in 4 of them Seyi didn’t play, in 3 of these matches we lost heavily,3nil against Palace and Watford and we let in 4 against Stoke. In those games without Seyi our midfield was overrun and we lacked cover for the central defenders. We need him to stay.
THANK GOD FOR THAT!
“The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” — Albert Einstein
Once again McCarthy is buying forwards who don’t score goals. How many times will this stupidity be allowed to happen?
I’m sure a lot of you guys here can’t read, this article was completely on the topic of Olofinjana’s obvious loyalty to the club.
What part of the following quotes tells you anything opposite to complete loyalty?
“I’ve not spoken to Wolves but the chances of me remaining here are very good. I’m very much looking forward to the season with Wolves.”
“If offers come in, a lot of things would have to happen for me to leave – even if it was a Premier League club.
“But if it was down to money, I would have left Wolves long ago. Respect is vital for me and I feel I have become so familiar with the fans and the whole bandwagon, so it would take something special to take me away.
“It was a really frustrating season for me and my performances weren’t always the best. I think I was below par and a little disappointing.”
George is a big bonus, he will play superbly when the vibe is good. He has some vision and some great touches.. In the right team he will shine and is undoubtedly prem quality
40. So that’s the reason you think we’ll cement our play amongst the finest in the country & champions of europe by 2012… you’ve been drinking :D, that’s the only reason I can think of. lol
one of the most one footed players i have ever seen, not good enough is my view!
I would say a little idle and sloppy at times but a good player-To much on his shoulders in the middle of the field and is work ethic needs attention.I hope we keep him–Does this article mean he’s on his way out ?
Olofinjana has loyalty and gives his all to our club. I would be so happy to see him stay.
