A full-time poker player from Wolverhampton is appealing for sponsorship as he bids to make a proper living from online gambling.
Adrian Miles, aged 41, from Park Village, has been playing the game for the last three years and wants to pay for expert tuition from a US-based professional ranked as one of the world’s best.
Mr Miles, who has been jobless for about the last 15 years, says he has not made a penny out of his poker playing, but wants to turn it into a living.
He said: “I have been out of work since I was around 26, I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome and around three years ago I was on the internet and discovered poker.
“In that time I haven’t made any money but I’ve got to the stage where I have become quite a good player and want to take it to the next level. I have been offered help from someone ranked about the 400th best in the world, who is based in the USA, but need sponsorship to pay for it.
“I am constantly trying to make ends meet, I have never had a car and even try and avoid using buses to get by. If I can get some sponsorship together I’d be very happy.”
To donate sponsorship call Mr Miles on 01902 352808 or email acekingpro @ yahoo.co.uk.

I play scrabble with Mr. Miles on isc.ro, and he is a very able poker player…he can chat with me, play a game of scrabble with me in six different languages, and handle two poker games at once, whilst winning all three! I call him The Wunderkind! He has a great sense of humour and camaraderie…I think he will go far in his endeavors.

Sounds crazy to me ! Anyone else feel the same ?
So you get a sponsor to teach you a game you will more than likely loose money on ?
Isn’t he being sponsored by taxpayers already and gains nothing, but wants folk to give him cash to learn how to enjoy loosing someone elses money ?
Yes I would like to learn to drink lots of beer and spirits everynight and get a sponsor to pay for me to learn how to do this as a life long ambition !

You can afford the internet,so get off your own backside, find a job that suits your condition, who isnt knackered these days ,some people have to hold down two jobs to make ends meet.
Im appalled that the paper even think you warrant their time and effort to publish this story!

I have only one thing to say to Mr Miles - Get a Job !
He is able to concentrate for 4 hours each day in front of a computer screen but has “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” which means he can’t work. CFS = can’t get back off bed in the morning.
If he really had CFS it would stop him giving the concentration needed to play poker for extended times.

I hope that anyone who has a bit of spare cash will not donate it to Mr Miles’ personal cause. However, I hope they will donate it to biomedical research into the cause of the illness with which Mr Miles has linked himself. He claims to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This illness, has been lumped together with M.E. (CFS/M.E.) in this country. M.E. is a neurological illness and it is very disabling. Ongoing international research has linked the illness to things like the herpes virus and various enteroviruses which cause the patient to suffer from a range of disabling symptoms which can vary in severity: Sophia Mirza (www.sophiaandme.org.uk) died after suffering severely from this illness.
If Mr Miles makes a fortune from his interest in gambling, I hope he will donate some of it towards more research into this illness.

I mean died from M.E., not ‘did’ from it!

just a quick reply for now…
First of all, the video was not my idea, but the idea of Victoria Hoe, the Video-Journalist… and I therefore had no editorial control over it whatsoever, no the accompanying article
In answer to most of them comments so far…
i. ME is not the same as CFS
ii. CFS varies greatly from person to person
iii. CFS varies greatly from day to day
iv. I have tried various things to get myself back into work or self-employment and I have also done a number of voluntary jobs
v. Yes, IF and when I become wealthy through Poker, I will definitely make charitable donations, especially to CFS and ME charities
vi. What is it with some peoples’ negativity and scepticism? What is wrong with someone trying their best to succeed in life when so many other opportunities are closed to them due to ill health and unemployment?
