Wolves defender George Elokobi insists he will improve again next season.
Four years on from playing Sunday League, left-back Elokobi proved a hit after arriving for £500,000 from Colchester in January.
Now he’s aiming for greater heights after boss Mick McCarthy called him the best left-back in the Championship behind Albion’s Paul Robinson.
“I’m really pleased with how it’s gone, I managed to settle straight into the team and have really enjoyed it,” said Elokobi. “Hopefully I can come back next season and be a better player. I couldn’t have expected things to go so well personally.
“Whenever you go to a new club, you’re always going to want to fight for a place in the team and be ambitious. That only comes with hard work and how dedicated you are on and off the pitch and in training.
“That’s what I’ve done.”
Elokobi still has a few rough edges, but acknowledged hard work in training was the only way he would get better. “I’m not going to get carried away, there are still things to improve from me, and alI can do is come back next season and pick up from where I’ve left off,” he said.
“I need to keep working hard, if not even harder, because next season is going to be tough and I want to push on.
“I know people say that second season can be difficult but I’m hoping that’s not going to happen in my case.
“I always like to be on top of my game and do everything it takes to progress and that’s why I’ll be training hard, looking after my body and making sure I’m 100 per cent.
“By doing that everything should be fine.”
Elokobi praised the help received from his team-mates and the management for smoothing those rough edges.
”I’ve got my head down and listened and learned from the manager and the coaching staff and the other players,” he said.
“I’ve tried to take in as much information and as I can – that’s how you get better.”
