Wolves striker Jay Bothroyd is the subject of a three-way tug of war between Stoke, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest.
The 26-year-old has quickly attracted interest after being one of seven players made available by boss Mick McCarthy at the end of the season.
Bothroyd finished the season at promoted Stoke, playing four League games, but only one of those was a start.
But he made enough of an impression on boss Tony Pulis to register an interest.
FA Cup finalists Cardiff have also made their interest known, with Bluebirds’ former Wolves boss Dave Jones desperately short of firepower.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has played his last game for the club, while Robbie Fowler has been plagued by injury.
Forest, who are the Championship new boys following their automatic promotion from League One,
Bothroyd has made 32 Legaue starts for Wolves, plus a further 23 appearances coming off the bench, scoring 12 goals, with a modest record of 13 in 70 in all competitions since signing on a free transfer from Charlton two years ago.
For the time being at least, the much-travelled former Arsenal trainee is prepared to stick at things at Molineux and he insisted he had no hard feelings.
“It’s a squad game and the manager decided to change things, so that’s fair enough,” said Bothroyd.
“Everyone wants to play, everyone wants to start.
“I’ve been a bit gutted not to play, but you can’t let it affect you because it will affect your game.
“You just have to carry on and do your best every day.
“All I can do is keep working hard. Maybe he’ll change it again, but I shall be ready for my opportunity if it comes.
“I’ll stay in good shape and be ready as and when I’m called upon.”
Bothroyd reflected: “Everyone was battling for two places and all we could do was keep our heads down and keep working hard in training.”

“with a modest record of 13 in 70 in all competitions”…. Thats quite prolific for you guys..
isnt this an ideal bargaining chip for either
commons from forest
or
capaldi from cardiff
(noting woves have no chance of ledley - who would be a great signing)
I know alot of people didn’t rate him, but i still think he is player that can come on a change things….
He did get a fair run in the team, but it was when we were missing the wide players, so he never got to play with other creative players…
well good luck to him…
Lets hope he goes as soon as possible, the guy has a lot of talent but he is too half hearted and doesn’t look interested half of the time
will be glad to see the back of him
Working hard? Sorry, I must have missed that game!
The sooner we get rid the better, another prima donna with ideas above his station, bags of ability but arious attitude problem
2 - bargaining chip (very small one) for Commons would be great (fantastic player who I’d love to see down the Mol).
I wouldn’t want Capaldi though - waste of space with no pace who isn’t good enough for Cardiff so definately not for us (if we have any ambition).
Ledley is a really good player but with Kites and Jarvis on the wing, its not a priority position. If Mick did sign Ledley, I’d expect Kites to start playing behind the front 2 with Olof and Henry battling it out for a defensive midfielder position
3 Clubs interested in him ??
Had to check the date - thought it was April 1st
Carsley already a Bluenose…you have to be quick in the sales, and bing out of the pl;ay ffs offers some blessings, but you have to get your finger out MM if you’re gonna build a championship winning team, Lee would have been a solid creative addition and now our rivals have him, tut tut! Losing out again before the season has even started…
Good luck to him. GO BACK TO CARDIFF AND KNOCK ON LEDLEY’S DOOR AGAIN. HE IS THE BOY THAT CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN IN MIDFIELD FOR US - AND GUESS WHAT HE SCORES GOALS. THAT’S A REAL BONUS!
JJ…Ledley does look a fair player in this division, but against Pompey he looked out of his depth. Totally outclassed.
If anybody is daft enough to want to spend money on this complete waste of space, good riddance. You can have all the talent in the world but if it ain’t backed up with desire theres no point.
finally good to see mccarthy getting rid of the deadwood, we could make a decent bit of money from him eastwood and elliot, if moxey does his job!
With the right management skills he could actually make an impact. With Thick Mick at the helm he won’t make an impact so probably best to sell.
just like to say
thank you jay! You came in on a free, scored some early goals to propell us up the league (when we thought we maybe in a relegation scrap)
scored that terrific goal v leeds and wba which give us fond memories of yourself
yes you are a lazy so and so much in mould of donny goodman and blake! but you also have eye for goal and will be good signing for whoever signs you
least we getting fee for him and hopefully help us
i think the move suited both us withing the last 2seasons
also like comment everyone moaning at him and eastwood but how many boy golden balls keogh? i like keogh but you dont see to many clubs enquiring about him do you
What a complete waste of talent! He could have got himself in the first XI week in-week out but basically, did not have the desire to show his talent!
Good riddance!
I’ll drive him to anywhere that will take him.
Lazy waster, wouldn’t pay him in brass buttons.
Good ridence!!!
For a big lad he goes to ground to many times for me–Agree with the comment about using him to bargain with Cardiff. Dave jones really will have assessed him- Pity we did not get Carsley-Still we can hope for good signing especially now STEVE will be making a more prominate role–Just Joking or is it true what the E&S print—Hope So ????????
Why do people keep going on about Ledley?
We bid 3.5m last Jan and Cardiff accepted but he rejected a move…he aint coming to us, Capaldi is more likely though.
Are the D&S on a wind up with this story ?
Ledley is ok but he knocked us back already.
I’d rather have Parry or Whittingham personally.
And at around half the cost why not both ?
Scored against the albion, Apart from that, nothing else really! Goodbye Jay, you wont be missed!
Let’s not forget he scored the winner against the baggies last yeat, so fair play to him for that but he has no future at Molineux. Hope he goes to Stoke.
Carsley is a bluenose and was never going anywhere else!
To right we8wba, keogh’s still trying to hit that barn door!
i hope im wrong but history has taught us we are useless in the close season. panic buys are more Wolves style.
prove me wrong please.

With the right management skills he could actually make an impact. With Thick Mick at the helm he won’t make an impact so probably best to sell.”
He’s played for 6 clubs and hasn’t made an impact at any of them. Are all those managers rubbish? No. Indeed, I suspect it’s you who is the thick one.
Seyi Olifinjana has been linked with a move to west brom, http://www.wba.vitalfootball.co.uk/sitepage.asp?a=110020
We shouldn’t sign Capaldi. I work with a guy who’s mates with Capaldi and last year when he signed for Cardiff he was also in talks with Wolves. He admitted he only signed for Cardiff because they offered him 5 grand a week more than Wolves.
That sums up football players in general and says alot about Capaldi. I’d like to know why he now thinks Wolves are good enough for him when we weren’t last year.
Stay away I say……in my opinion.
Personally I think that if any club offered £5,000 for Bothroyd we should snap their hands off. Possibly the laziest striker ever to wear gold and black.
Why did MM keep playing him, telling him to take all the free kicks or corners when he should have been getting the goal. He has everything but He’s just Lazy.
Joe Ledley is a class act. He scores goals, he is young and more importantly is a talented player. I know we have been in for him earlir in the year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try again. This is football what applies one minute is not always applicable the same the next.
He would add another domension to the midfield that is just not there at the moment. If we don’t get him a premier club will. Watch that space..
Thanks Jay, I do agree with some of the comments about you being lazy and without that ‘running every ball down’ ethic you were never likely to win favour with the south bank. If a player runs around all day and chases lost causes then the south bank seem to love you!!!!!
Anyway, you gave us something different at times and the goal against the Baggies that pretty much kept them down in 06/07 will live long in my memory!
He like Kyle will never be world beaters but gave MM options and that was key in our fantastic 06/07 campaign. I think he has the really potential to go on to very big things and it is that potential that Wolves fans find really frustrating in that at times he just seemed happy with his lot!
Could be a great signing for any of these clubs, likewise could be a real lemon! Just like to make sure he doesn’t come back to haunt us!
jay in the premiership?with stoke?shows there ambition!!(not)!
only one comment on commons - very suprised
if comment 26 is true
wouldnt suprise me if he rolls up at mol in next few weeks … but if it is the case i hope not
ledley in and kites playing central in an attacking role - i wouldnt say no
but are cardiff going to let ledley go if they lose ramsay
NICE TO SEE 3 OF OUR PROMOTION RIVALS NOT SHOWING ANY REAL INTENTIONS OF STRENGTHENING THEIR SQUADS.
STEPHEN WARD TO QPR FOR 10 MILLION?..COME ON MOXEY SHOW US JUST HOW GOOD A BUISINESSMAN YOU REALLY ARE!!! AND PULL SOMETHING LIKE THAT OFF.
Yeah, you Wolves fans can take Commons. We’ll have JB to play alongside Earnshaw and Tyson
19 - yes agree on whittingham
But didnt MM pass on him when he left villa for a knockdown price
I liked Both as a player, for the simple reason we had no other strikers apart from him and he helped us out with some important goals early on. The lads got real talent but just didn’t show up enough times to make it.
I also registered an interest but he wouldnt drop down to the Goals Wednesday league.
Quick! get him out the door, he’s a great player…honest!
33. What a saddo. What are you hoping to achieve with comments that a 5 year old kid would be embarrassed by
contrary to my imposters view i wouldn’t touch bothroyd with Del Wopp’s. i like my players to tow and lead the line- not disagree with the man in charge.
IS that the only picture they got of him, pointing towards stoke boing boing up the MOWBURY WAY
so are most of you saying that bothroyd should go because he dosent put a shift in??????????? sounds familiar.
he is our most talented player by a mile.
what a joke!! most of you want bothroyd out because he dosent put a shift in.
SOUND FAMILAR ????
Bothroyd was quite good last year but with 13 goals in 2 seasons at Wolves - simply not good enough.
SEB has scored 13 in just 4 months!
Good luck to him though as he helps us out last year.
Is he being released or transfer-listed?
I thought is contract was up anyway in June.
newbridge - comment 40 - he is a bit sad ay he.
PS - I love Wolves I do!
wow,,,should bring you £50.000 in to spend on new irish players,,spend it wisely mick,,,PLAYING IN THE PREM THE MOWBRAY WAY,,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,,OOOOOOOH YES.
Has this happy-baggie bloke got some sort of inferiority complex or some sort of hidden deviant nature? One of the first to comment on everything to do with Wolves, strange behaviour, maybe he has nothing else to do, or lacks an identity, something is definitely not right.
One cracker against Leeds is all I can remember. Not a consistent scorer and a bit light weight considering his size. We need more creativity in midfield and a quick solid centre back.
See ya Jay, your goal against Leeds last season was awesome!!! No-one else could have hit that in our team. Maybe Keogh………..errrr ok then maybe not.
48,tipton, maybe its cuz hes really clever, and just likes to comment on things, boing boing gone up the HAPPY WAY
Bothroyd out Andy Cole In!!!
Let him go as asap, get the wage bill down, great winner against WBA, but thats about it. Who ever told him he is a free kick expert wants the sack aswell.
47..worcesterbaggie yes trying to play in the premier..THE DERBY WAY,,,,IN NO STYLE OF COURSE,,,,OH YES.
dont forget… come and support MMFC every wednesday @ Goals.
after hartson boggies would do well to sign jay.unfortunately youre certanties to go down.6 easy points for the villa next season
Stoke would be mad to take Bothroyd to the Premier League surely?
And how can Dave Jones be interesed in this guy?! At least Hasselbaink’s excuse for being lazy was because he’s 105, Jay is only 26 and just wanders about the place and occasionally falls over.
So Forest are his best chance eh? Can they afford his wages?? I have a horrible feeling we’ll be paying them for the next year while he falls about in the reserves
lUCKYLIPS : You need to look up the definition of being Clever, and apply to happy-baggie,
56,we dont talk to vile fans on here, bye bye, boing boing go learn some songs
villa r borin rubbish support
HE HAS PACE SKILL AND HEIGHT,IF HE PUT HIS MIND TO IT HE COULD BE A VERY GOOD PLAYER,HE,S HAD HIS CHANCE AND HASNT TOOK IT.
7 players made available by MM, but it is not the magnificent 7 is it ?
Dave Jones needing more firepower is going to be really dissapointed in 13 from 70.
Not the biggest teams around touting for Wolves players, but at least it will be a step up for any Wolves players to leave Molineaux.
Still hanging on hopes and dreams, why not do it the Mowbray way and join the eleite in the Premiership !
NOTICE TO ALL BAGGY SADO’S - Luckily we wont be playing you and your sad fans for a few seasons as both clubs YOYO up and down from Prem to Championship!!! Your top goalcsorer wants 2 year contract - there should not even be a question mark about it - NOW THATS SANDWELL TOWN SHOWING VISION AND AMBITION AINT IT!!!!
63,WEMBLEYyouv neverbin, yes it is lucky for you aint it,cuz we always beat you,i will miss my annual trip to the moll to outsing and out play you, such fun, boing boing gone up the MOWBURY WAY
54 orange and black,,,thats why weem in the prem son,cos we got loads a style ,mowbray is the dogs swingers so we wont be doing a derby mate,,we will be STORMING UP THE PREM THE MOWBRAY WAY,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOH YES.
Give Cardiff Jay and Freddie with some cash and take Ledley and Capaldi. That’s what makes sense and would add real value to the team no mistake.
What’s all this rubbish about Capaldi? We were in for him last year and he went to Cardiff. Now we have Foley and Elokobi who, IMHO, are both better than Capaldi. Lucky for us we didn’t get him!:-)
OK, Ledley’s good, but again we have Kightly and Jarvis with Gobern and Gray to back them up, so Ledley is more or less superfluous to our needs. If we got him, I would be happy, but he’s a long way from being a top priority.
In central defence, we only have Neill Collins, always iffy and occasionally a nightmare, Craddock, becoming arthritic, and 20-year-old Lee Collins, fast and with bags of promise but relegated to the bench at Hereford by Graham Turner in the last weeks of this season. Quite frankly, if we’re aiming for automatic promotion, we need about four new central defenders before we buy Ledley!!!:-) Two to start and two to back up.
worcesterbaggie…dont make me laugh what no style no good players no good manager no good supporters..DROPPING OUT THE PREMIER THE MOWBRY WAY OH YES OF COURSE..YOU MUPPET
