Three clubs battle for striker

jay.jpgWolves striker Jay Bothroyd is the subject of a three-way tug of war between Stoke, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old has quickly attracted interest after being one of seven players made available by boss Mick McCarthy at the end of the season.

Bothroyd finished the season at promoted Stoke, playing four League games, but only one of those was a start.

But he made enough of an impression on boss Tony Pulis to register an interest.

FA Cup finalists Cardiff have also made their interest known, with Bluebirds’ former Wolves boss Dave Jones desperately short of firepower.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has played his last game for the club, while Robbie Fowler has been plagued by injury.

Forest, who are the Championship new boys following their automatic promotion from League One,

appear to represent Bothroyd’s best chance of regular football.

Bothroyd has made 32 Legaue starts for Wolves, plus a further 23 appearances coming off the bench, scoring 12 goals, with a modest record of 13 in 70 in all competitions since signing on a free transfer from Charlton two years ago.

For the time being at least, the much-travelled former Arsenal trainee is prepared to stick at things at Molineux and he insisted he had no hard feelings.

“It’s a squad game and the manager decided to change things, so that’s fair enough,” said Bothroyd.

“Everyone wants to play, everyone wants to start.

“I’ve been a bit gutted not to play, but you can’t let it affect you because it will affect your game.

“You just have to carry on and do your best every day.

“All I can do is keep working hard. Maybe he’ll change it again, but I shall be ready for my opportunity if it comes.

“I’ll stay in good shape and be ready as and when I’m called upon.”

Bothroyd reflected: “Everyone was battling for two places and all we could do was keep our heads down and keep working hard in training.”

He did get a fair run in the team, but it was when we were missing the wide players, so he never got to play with other creative players…

    well good luck to him…

2 - bargaining chip (very small one) for Commons would be great (fantastic player who I’d love to see down the Mol).

I wouldn’t want Capaldi though - waste of space with no pace who isn’t good enough for Cardiff so definately not for us (if we have any ambition).

Ledley is a really good player but with Kites and Jarvis on the wing, its not a priority position. If Mick did sign Ledley, I’d expect Kites to start playing behind the front 2 with Olof and Henry battling it out for a defensive midfielder position

We shouldn’t sign Capaldi. I work with a guy who’s mates with Capaldi and last year when he signed for Cardiff he was also in talks with Wolves. He admitted he only signed for Cardiff because they offered him 5 grand a week more than Wolves.

That sums up football players in general and says alot about Capaldi. I’d like to know why he now thinks Wolves are good enough for him when we weren’t last year.

Stay away I say……in my opinion.

Joe Ledley is a class act. He scores goals, he is young and more importantly is a talented player. I know we have been in for him earlir in the year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try again. This is football what applies one minute is not always applicable the same the next.

He would add another domension to the midfield that is just not there at the moment. If we don’t get him a premier club will. Watch that space..

Thanks Jay, I do agree with some of the comments about you being lazy and without that ‘running every ball down’ ethic you were never likely to win favour with the south bank. If a player runs around all day and chases lost causes then the south bank seem to love you!!!!!

Anyway, you gave us something different at times and the goal against the Baggies that pretty much kept them down in 06/07 will live long in my memory!

He like Kyle will never be world beaters but gave MM options and that was key in our fantastic 06/07 campaign. I think he has the really potential to go on to very big things and it is that potential that Wolves fans find really frustrating in that at times he just seemed happy with his lot!

Could be a great signing for any of these clubs, likewise could be a real lemon! Just like to make sure he doesn’t come back to haunt us!

What’s all this rubbish about Capaldi? We were in for him last year and he went to Cardiff. Now we have Foley and Elokobi who, IMHO, are both better than Capaldi. Lucky for us we didn’t get him!:-)
OK, Ledley’s good, but again we have Kightly and Jarvis with Gobern and Gray to back them up, so Ledley is more or less superfluous to our needs. If we got him, I would be happy, but he’s a long way from being a top priority.
In central defence, we only have Neill Collins, always iffy and occasionally a nightmare, Craddock, becoming arthritic, and 20-year-old Lee Collins, fast and with bags of promise but relegated to the bench at Hereford by Graham Turner in the last weeks of this season. Quite frankly, if we’re aiming for automatic promotion, we need about four new central defenders before we buy Ledley!!!:-) Two to start and two to back up.
