Albion have been told to prove their ambition if they want to keep Zoltan Gera on board for their latest tilt at the Premier League.
Gera is hoping to resolve his future in the next week and agent Sam Stapleton has again confirmed the Baggies remain serious contenders to secure the midfielder’s signature again. But he has insisted that ambition and not money will be the main factor if Gera decides his future lies at The Hawthorns.
Speaking in the media last night, Stapleton said Gera is keen to make a decision on his future before flying to Hungary at the weekend to link up with his international team mates for two matches.“Zolly has a few options and we would like it resolved,” said Stapleton. “That’s not to say it will be, but we would like to have made a decision before he goes away.”
Stapleton confirmed Alb-ion have offered Gera much-improved terms as they look to fend off interest from a host of clubs including Portuguese giants Benfica and Premier League sides Wigan and Bolton. But he insisted money alone would not dictate Gera’s decision.
Having already been relegated once from the Premier League with Albion, Gera is seeking proof of the Baggies’ ambitions to avoid becoming a yo-yo club.
Meanwhile, Albion sou-rces have moved to scotch reports that the club were beaten by Birmingham to the signature of former Everton star Lee Carsley.
The 34-year-old signed for Blues yesterday. But sources at The Hawthorns insist Albion never offered terms to the former Republic of Ireland international.
l A fans forum with Tony Mowbray, scheduled for tonight at Hamstead Social Club, has been moved to next Tuesday to allow the Baggies manager to attend the funeral of former Celtic manager Tommy Burns.

can i just mention Gera’s first season in the premier league was fantastic, and showed that he is perfectly capable of the step up, futhermore, had his second season not been blighted by injuries he probably wouldn’t be with us anymore following our relegation.
Finnaly, Gera is a fantastic player who has put his heart and sole into every performance. You can see his ecstasy when he scores a goal, or his oassion to keep going until the end of the game’s. For instance, his attempt (whilst we were in the premier league) to win a corner from a lost cause. Or the passion he shoiws whilst in local Derbies with yourselves.
Gera’s here for the long haul mate, Mowbary says he’s really enjoying Hawthors life…
You gotta think Benfica would be his first choice… it would be mine and i support the Albion…
Hmmmm… live in Lisbon or live in Sutton Coldfield….
Warm summer nights playing at the stadium of Light - or a cold tuesday in january at the stadium of Light - Sunderland !!!
Zolly - can I come too please…….
i remember distinctly watching WBA v Villa and he was trapped in the corner by 2 Villa players with Mellberg advancing also, he dinked it over both of there heads and put the ball around Olof and dashed around the other side of him to win a corner, he swung that in…we equalised, minutes after going behind, great memories where ever he goes.
This is more positive than recent news. I don’t know how we’re going to show our ambition in a few days though. The fact that Mowbray is our manager is the main reason why I think we’ll hold our own in the prem. My gut feeling is that Gera will also think that. In Mowbray we trust.
Happy_baggie you are so cheesy
give him a 3 year contract with a relegation release clause. he said he loves it at the club, but wants the albion to prove that were premiership quality. if we dont stay up this season (hope we will) then he should be allowed to leave the club, hes been terrific for us. Good Luck Zolly wherever you may be next season.
My prediction is he’ll stay. Why would Bolton, Wigan, Fulham be more attractive and Everton seam to be distancing themselves. Benfica would be attractive, but I doubt their league pays at the same level and with a new baby, being well settled and loved by all, why make the move. I’m sure they’ll sort Kev out as well. As for goalies, Ben Foster or the Danish one would be my pick. Seams like Danek isn’t up to it yet, and Kiely backup at best.Would just love it if we could temp Kieran Richardson back. Another good striker and an experienced centre half and right back & we’ll take the prem by storm. They won’t know whats hit em.
No. 6 - a fair suggestion.
I would be disappointed if he went to Wigan or Bolton - sideways step IMO. I can understand a move that would secure him European footie though.
We’re not going to make any major signings in the next few days so I’m not sure what the ‘prove ambition’ ultimatum is actually all about.
I reckon it all depends on who peace tells him that west brom are trying to sign. If Zollie thinks they seem like signings that will keep west brom up then he will sign for Albion if not he will leave
A cunning ploy - by his Mr.15% - to try to eek out a little bit more money from possible suitors.
It may not be down to money for Mr. Gera, but it is to his agent, methinks.
Well i think Gera will stay. Like no 7 said he and his family are happy here.
How spurious is “show ambition” ?
Rewind 12 months, and Zolly is hypothetically
asking the question “prove ambition, who are we going to sign”
TM…well Zolly, we are going to sign Fillipe
Tiexeria, Roman Bednar, Robert Koren, Ishmael
Miller, Kim do heon, and James Morrison.
ZG….i`ve only ever heard of Morrison gaffer
that`s not very ambitious.
TM…just wait and see Zolly
good golly, wots all this fuss about zolly,if he goes he goes,we are the super baggies, players have left us before, and we still rise from the ashes like a pheonix,in to mo,we trust.
If I was Gera I would go to Benfica if it was purely a lifestyle decision but it’s not. He has a newborn baby is settled in the area and the Premier League is the best league in the world so staying has it’s benifits. My gut feeling is that he will go but of corse we want him all to stay. I wish him well whatever he does. I agree with Dan the Albion Fan sign a 3 year deal with the Albion so that they can prove our ambition or not? but have a get out clause with a fee attached if we get relegated it’s quite simple really. I must admit though even though I love the Albion I’d be off to Benfica.
Boing Boing
benefica might also want browmary you never no
even your own fans say to go to benfica. why bolton over albion? is that a serious comment? he will go to who wants him but to be honest he is a below average premier player, just hope he hasnt taken medical advice from robinson!
my mates best mates mate was told in the pub last nite by his mates mate dad that his brothers mates mate cleaned geras windows, boing boing
I’ve read on the official site that a few of the lads have been called up for international duty.
It states “Kim faces a double header against Jordan on May 31 and June 7″.
Am I the only one who finds that statement hilarious ??
i hope gera signs for the baggies as tm has shown the light of what way were going adn its gonna be a great season in the prem all we need is a keeper like ben foster and a good in and out striker phillips will be good but we need better than miller and a good right back aswell and we will be the suprise the whole prem this time boing boing bring on united !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that European football is a big draw but I’d be disappointed to see Gera leave for the Portuguese League with Benfica or the Scottish Premier with Celtic……European football yes but a very poor domestic league and not challenging enough for a player of his ability. Whether he stays or not he’ll always be a fans favourite……complete legend
HAPPY i wish i was having a double header with jordan boing boinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng
I know for a fact that she is going back to her native Hungary. She will enjoy a much higher standard of living compared to residing on the Sandwell Riviera.
There’s a few points I’d like to make. Firstly, the latest news certainly seems more postitive and seems to prove, if true, that Gera does want to say. It’s also good that Albion are trying to keep him by offering improved terms. There’s one other factor which may mean he’ll go though - his agent.
It may be that Bolton, Wigan and Benfica can all offer improved wages. If what Gera’s agent said is true, we’ll soon see if Gera genuniney wanted to stay.
But if he goes he goes, I’ve said before, it’s not the end of the world. We wish him well but we move on. At the end of the day players come and go but the club will always be here.
Nice try happy but why should he struggle with you Dregs.
Is not off to a big club just off to anyone who’s better..
16 - “he is a below average premier player” [Gera]
Have you been let out of your padded cell? or do you just like embarrassing yourself?, your Dingle colours are really showing, but i suppose SEB and Kightly are Premier League players, remind me what they did against us? ? ?
Do you really think your opinion is valued?
Zoltan Gera will prove himself one AGAIN in the Premier League..you just watch; you will be able to watch, how many times we’re going to be on the television unlike your tosh. Boing! boing! Premier League!
Looking at all the comments from the Wolves supporters on the Wba site, after a fantastic season, I wonder what this site wud look like should we have stayed down ???????? Even with winning the title, scoring 100 goals + and playin Fa Cup semi we are a sinking ship, doomed for relegation ect ect. We might as well shut the club down once and for all. Danish Baggie
He should be offered a good deal just for the goal against Wolves that cost them a playoff place.
The Folly of Zolly and the Lolly !!!!!
16. Below average Prem player? Come off it! I’ve been fairly critical of Zoltan over the last few years but a fit and raring to go Zoltan is lethal in the Premiership. He’s been quality this season but in his first season in the top flight he was amazing.
With more time on the ball Zoltan will be back to his best, with or without us. (I’m still resigned to losing him, which is a blow but one we can recover from)
Danish - if you look at which wolves fans are posting this garbage its the same old stupid idiots who all season posted their mad, bizzare tripe on here.
Genuine fans like malvernwolf posted a message of congratulations and moved on.
To these idiots any hint of an anti albion story (not hard to find in here) is to be jumped on. But when it comes to their own club they are either completely silent - or just as scathing as they are about us.
These people have no real interest in football - its unlikely they ever attend games - this forum is just another street corner for the mindless to shout their rubbish from.
The low intelligence of these morons means they are unable to deal with reality - Its really best to ignore them.
23 & 26 the stats suggest he is a below average premier player yes. goals to game ratio and actim stats are ok but not great.also hence why no club in the top half of the prem have come in for him and 26 you get less time on the ball in the prem do you albion fans ever make a good point?
29
Yes here is a good point
We are in the Premiership and Wolves aint !
How’s that for a good point , well not really I suppose if you were in the Prem we would be guaranteed a six point starter
29. Gera is an average player because his goals to game ratio and actim stats are ok………..well that’s official then!
the Great escape season saw Earnie finish 2nd in the Premiership goals to minutes played only behind Henry - does that make him the 2nd best striker that season?
Laughingwolf - do you ever make a good point?
Complete plank!
30,laffin,i,ll make a good point,we are in the prem and yow aint BOING BOING LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
right im just off to town to pay my credit card off with a great big smile, and do you know why i shall have a great big smile, yes thats right, cuz it was for my season ticket in the prem,BOING BOING thank you TONY MOWBURY
Why don’t you get a job you lazy slob ?
you can then pay off your credit card like everybody else.
32-you are the plank. He’s available on a FREE TRANSFER just to explain that means NO MONEY! apart from releagation threatened sides like the albion whos interested in having him for nothing-answer: nobody. maybe carl hoefkens has told him to leave the “poverty stricken unattractive industrial area” or dean kiely has said “dont listen to the butcher, baker or candlestick maker” or maybe robbo has said “go to a bigger club like wigan and if you fail the medical albion will still pay you in the worst case scenario!” great start for albion losing their 2 best players. saying that if he wants to go to a bigger club we need some back up for kites?
actim stats are not just goals scored you plank, they are completed passes, percentage of successful tackles, crosses etc the whole game and he aint up there hence why nobody of any substance are in for him!
overated will not make it in the prem -sell him now for as much as we can.slowed up this season-we need quality and he aint got it!
30 - I doubt any top half prem club would come in for any of our players never mind Gera. We know he’s not that good but he fits into our system well, has skill, works hard, is a team player and we all want him to stay. You’re a gas mate. Laughing gas I’d say. The laughs still on you pal.
35,lazy premier league slob if you dont mind boing boing giz a fag
38 sums it up he isnt that good!
By the way, he is really not that good. There must be hundreds and hundreds better footballers in the world.
