Only two weeks since the end of the season and the rumour mill gathers pace, Albion blogger Jarrod Hill takes a look at the latest batch of Albion transfer rumours.
Paddy McCourt
Facts: Aged 24, currently plays for Derry City in the League of Ireland.
Type of player: A 6ft tricky winger who can play on the left or right, described as one of the best players in the Irish League, more of a supplier of goals than a goal scorer himself. Played for Rochdale a few years back but suffered badly with injuries.
Likelihood: Possible replacement for Gera if he chooses to move on. Not sure on the likelihood, it is a big jump form the Irish League to the Premiership.
Alexandre Song
Facts: Aged 20, currently plays for Arsenal, Cameroon International.
Type of Player: Can play either in defence or midfield, straight from the school of Arsene Wenger, technically very good with physical strength.
Likelihood: If Mowbray can convince both Song and Wenger it is a good move then I can see him coming to the Hawthorns on loan. Being able to play both in defence and midfield and with his technical ability it makes him an appealing acquisition.
Jesper Christiansen
Facts: Aged 30, currently plays for FC Copenhagen in the Danish League, Danish International.
Type of Player: An experienced goalkeeper voted the best Danish goalkeeper 2005, 2006, and 2007. Described as a good shot stopper, and at 6ft3 commands his box very well.
Likelihood: We are definitely in the market for a goalkeeper, and at 30 should be in his prime.
Richard Wright
Facts: Aged 30, currently plays for West Ham United, previously capped by England.
Type of Player: Since signing from Ipswich to Arsenal for £6million, has seen his career take on that of a bit of a journeyman. Has never impressed me.
Likelihood: I kind of hope not.
Ben Foster
Facts: Aged 25, currently plays for Manchester United, England International.
Type of Player: A highly rated keeper, who has suffered with injuries, went out on loan to Watford and had a superb season, all round keeper who just lacks first team games.
Likelihood: Rumoured to be a season long loan deal, has excellent potential and at 25 needs to be playing regularly.
Wayne Hennessey
Facts: Aged 21, currently playing for Wolves, Welsh International.
Type of Player: Rated the best keeper in the Championship and at just 21 is attracting interest from many clubs around the country.
Likelihood: Highly unlikely, Wolves would not want to let him go to anyone let alone their fiercest rivals.

You wont get any off them and please stop making me laugh, these high profile players from Derry have their careers to think about!
Loffin stock.
Im lovin’ it!
Like you were last season when we lost Koumas Kamara, davies and Mcshane you still loffin
Nice one Sandwell Massive. You could always try and tempt Peter Shilton out of retirement or theres always Peter Enkleman on a free. Why on earth would any of them above want to join a sinking ship?Lol! Zoltan Gera knows whats coming, can’t blame him really……………
Like you were last season when we got rid of Koumas Davies Kamara and Mcshane you stil loffin
1. Remind me where Michael Kightly came from? Grays Athletic was it?
We would rather sign players on ability, not how big their club is, how much they cost or how well known their name is. Teixeira, Koren, Bednar, I rest my case.
Back to sanity… Foster would be a brilliant signing, I’d be very confident of survival if he came to us.
Hennessey, Wright and possibly Christiansen are all no go’s, should Foster sign. Song is a possibility, McCourt looks likely. Do-Heon Kim is also set to sign, and Gera’s mind will be made up by the end of the week apparently.
Theres only one loffin stock in this area and they dont play in blue and white.Just look at the final league table dingles makes good reading
WHAT BEAT THE DINGLES TO AN IRISH SIGNING ???
NO CHANCE LOL
BOING BOING
Don’t you have to be in the same league to be considered a rival?
2,4, Are you the Chuckle Brothers??
i personally would love to see Christiansen join, he is a fantastic keeper, this is know for sure. he really would be a big step and is quite a popular name in the Scandinavian countries having also attracted insterest from several La Liga clubs in recent years.
on the radio this morning Gera’s agent said that the club has told him that as long as there are no stupid financial offers doubling his pay then we’re prepared to match whatever’s offered.
The sports media speculation gathers momentum.
As reported in the E&S the other day
“Albions hopes are fading over Gera”
As reported by radio WM this morning
(attributed to Gera`s agent)
“Zoltan is keen to sort out a new contract with
West Brom”
Truth is, no one actually knows what the truth is at this juncture.
Without this speculation however, we would have
nothing to talk/blog about in the wastelands of
a close season, so any football talk is far better than none at all, even if it`s far removed from reality.
SOUTHBANK
I have been away for a few days, reading previous blogs, i read about you`re good news.
May i add my congratulations to Mrs Southbank
and yourself on the birth of your baby daughter.
Well i had the radio on this morning and it said Gera has come out and said I hope to sign a new contract with West Brom By the end of the week. If they think they can stay up? So all this crap about Gera wanting to move is not coming from Gera or his Agent. Just the E&S
Oh Bomber
Speaking of gathering momentum, i see out little
shindig on the 6th is doing just that, any idea
of numbers ?
13. as if it was ever in doubt mate…
lets see how many big names the dinglets sign,,,der i dont think so,,,,,in mow we trust to find some hidden gems…..PLAYING IN THE PREM THE MOWBRAY WAY,,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOH YES.
The Wolf..at least we have a ship to sail whereas yours is still in the shipyards of Tipton. The jealous Wolves fans just cannot get over it, their big City Club unable to complete with our little Town. Remember you made the Premiership once and that was only because you weren’t playing against us in your promotion season, so perhaps the new season might improve your chances. Anyone fancy eating sour grapes with the custard at the Wolverhamption Bowl.
Sandwell massive and by the way we are massive in football terms compared to the bilston overspill.Lets look at good players who have come from non leugue football,Tony brooke Man City 1967,Stuart PHYSCO Pearce,Ian WRIGHT and not forgetting the great CYRILL REGIS. WHO CAN ADD TO THIS LIST.
wbaforever
Not sure on numbers, looking at the responses looks like 30-40+, and a few ladies too mate so you better put that special pheromone aftershve on!!! Yes mate the one made from rhino horn!!
Just remembered didnt we sighn a tatter from Tipton town and passed him on to a 4th division team forgot his name .
How can the dingles have anything to say?? It is a joke they come on here after a crap season in a crap league finishing a crap 7th!!!! Are you on drugs boys???
Just look forward to entertaining Swansea, Norwich, Blackpool ha ha, and the mighty sheff wednesday!!
I won’t predict on our forthcoming season but one things for sure, we’ll see better football ALWAYS at the albion…
Lick your wounds and naff off..
CHAMPIONS….
13. Sorry mate i’ve read enough elsewhere to suggest gera is off. Not a prob and we’ll all wish him well. People move on that’s life and football.
Good luck zolly, thanks for making up for ye pen miss!!!!
Bomber, you`ve seen me !!!
no amount of aftershave is gonna work,
unless i wear my Jarrod Hill mask, then i`ll be fighting em off.
11,LAURA, and barry white was on singing my first my last my everything, and i thought of you laura,
xxxxxI LOVE YOU LAURA xxxxx
18, Yes mate but they have to want to sign for you fost!
Sad team, sad fans, going down the usual Albion way…oh yes!
Im lovin’ it!
if gera does stay its because other clubs are not willing to pay the wages hes demanding to a 29 year old apparently he spoke to david moyse who has offered him the same money as albion just a shorter contract as he is a championship player and i think he will find this step up difficult.
its nice the dingles are so intrested in gera, maybe its because they have never seen such a quality player boing boing winning at the moll the GERA WAY
Terry - strangely enough ‘I’m too Sexy…’ was on the radio this morning and I thought of you!
MAN U owe us a goalkeeper anyway, they nicked our last un, through robson playing the old pals act,
boing boing
Sandwell Massive
What a wonderfully astute person you are.
Sad team, sad fans.
My word, just how have other people not noticed
this ?
You are SO right Sandwell,
how we have got through last season watching
the dirge dished out week after week, is beyond
comprehension,
we just about scraped the title, only scored
100+ goals in the process, had to ENDURE that rubbish free flowing football, and an FA cup
semi final defeat by virtue of an handball.
I for one am glad that season of abject misery
is behind us.
My God, i do envy the wonderful season you just had……….i would give anything to have finished 7th
gera is not that good. 3 good games folowed by 3 bad ones.that sums gera up.I shall boo gera on return to hawthorns just like i”ll boo koumas and davis.these guys dont care one bit about albion, were just the mugs who fund there crazy wages.Did u notice how well gera played on televised games i wonder why.
!! ADVERT ADVERT ADVERT !!
Can any genuine Wolves fans who haves their own hopes and aspirations PLEASE supply us with their comments and thoughts, I don’t think i can stand anymore of this crap from these fans that embarass the very name WWFC.
You speak as if we are bottom of the league and 20 points clear! The season hasnt even begun. I hope I get to force feed you your words.
YOUR COMMENTS AGAINST US MAKE ME CRINGE!!
31. Jase,
Please follow the Wolves fans out the forum. Boo boys not allowed…
jase
I would never tar Gera with the same brush as Davies, or even Koumas. I will cheer Koumas on his return (provided so many wonderful moments, ie Sunderland away) and if Gera goes he goes with my best wishes, i might give Davies a little bit of a boo though!!
Aug the whatever Mighty wolves v Burnley what a curtain raiser down the custard bowl!!
Aug 16th Champions v champions… translated for u thick dingles… W.B.A V MANCHESTER UNITED.
Dream about that dingles…..
31. got to disagree! I thought he tried his socks off in all the games and was unlucky not to score a couple of contenders for goal of the season! due to the crossbar.
He has seen out his contract and is entitled to look for his best options. If we signed a better player or Zolly had a dip in form, we would soon offload him with no sentimentallity.
Thats the world as we have come to know it!He has done well and certainly was one of the main contributors to our promotion. We should thank him for that and just hope that he makes the right decision and stays with us!If he chooses Benfica or somebody else then good luck to him and well have to find a replacement.
Just read 31..Ive never been one to boo ex players myself, i certainly dislike them but footballers like ourselves need to test themselves (would you turn down ££, European football, top 6 finishes etc at 29 and after spending 4 good years at a club)
Zoltan Gera has proved to us all he holds the club close to his heart, he gave us 2 seasons in the Championship when others didnt and has generall been excellent
Recall back to the Great Escape season and his lunging effort to keep the ball in play against the Blues that resulted in a goal.. he always gave his all when others maybe havent.
If he stays i’ll be so happy, if not i’ll be proud he was a Baggie and in my eyes I will always remember him as being an Albion great.
I would suggest many will feel the same way and he would get a good reception from us
Since the mind boggling return of the “sinking ship” comments on here, I won’t be bothering to converse with our “lesser informed” neighbours… its reached the point where its not fun and is just boring.
Its like having a next door neighbour who’s little dog just yaps away in their garden all afternoon whilst your trying to enjoy the weather….
Any wolves fans who want to discuss the previous / coming season in a serious manner - or who want to swap some genuine humour - then count me in - but to the rest… you can just keep yapping.
can i just mention (26) Gera’s first season in the premier league was fantastic, and showed that he is perfectly capable of the step up, futhermore, had his second season not been blighted by injuries he probably wouldn’t be with us anymore following our relegation.
Finnaly, Gera is a fantastic player who has put his heart and sole into every performance. You can see his ecstasy when he scores a goal, or his oassion to keep going until the end of the game’s. For instance, his attempt (whilst we were in the premier league) to win a corner from a lost cause. Or the passion he shoiws whilst in local Derbies with yourselves.
Gera’s here for the long haul mate, Mowbary says he’s really enjoying Hawthors life…
26. Gera proved that he can play in The Premiership in “The Great Escape” season. He was crocked for most of the season after that.
26. What are you talking about? He’s a premiership player as Albion are in the Premier League. He has already played in the Premiersip for 2 years and proved he’s more than capable at that level.
Sandwell Massive - how can you be loving it when your team/club is a complete joke and have been embarrassed by the Albion for years now. You really are a silly little man.
Re: McCourt - Roy Keane seemed to make the step up from the Irish leagues to the Premiership.
30 spot on
Sandwell massive probably boos his own team anyway
Hi WBA Forever - you have a go at wolves fans, in particular Sandwell Massive for being a wonderfully astute person. Have you seen some of the comments from Poor little dingles (21), even his name to me suggests his is of the less affluent albion fans!.
I’m not having a pop at you, as you know I think your a sound bloke!
Wba bomber - just out of interest, how come your still blogging and yet Nathan Lloyd has stopped? Is that because you have more to write about because your in the prem?
Loads of albion posts about wolves, club and supporters etc being a complete joke. I refer back to Happy baggies comments, lets have a sensible chat about football with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure, and if your going to slate wolves back it up with some facts or at least a football debate.
Can albion stay in the prem. Not with there current players no. Obviously you are going to purchase new players, this will be the factor as to your ambitions. May i remind you to when Megson took you up and you had the best defence in the championship and you all thought that would be good enough in the prem……. The prem is a different kettle of fish to the CCC, despite you being the best team in there last season!Bednar, Miller etc are no longer facing CCC defenses but Ferdinand, Gallas, Terry and alikes. I do however think TM is a good manager and am looking forward to your purchases!
Hi Poor Little Dingles, you made me think about the last time we played The Mancs. Thank you for giving me a little warm glow, in case you have forgotten we beat them. Good Luck!
35 poor little dingles. I give up with you. You are a lost cause! I used to think Terry was nasty, but then I realised i just misinterpreted him and he is actually quite funny when he gets the wolves fans biting.
You on the other hand really try to get a boost in your life by putting the wolves and their fans down! Sad man!
Happy, a serious footy question for you. Who do you want to win tomorrow night? As for me I couldn’t stand watching Drogba or the Portugese Diving Cheat celebrating so I will find something else to do.
Firstly….there is no reason why the albion cant stay in the prem with the players that we have.We have done it before with worse players. The fact is our chances will be increased if we bring in some more players.
As for you Wolves fans….
Albion=Championship CHAMPIONS
Wolves= 7th place.
To be honest, if it was the other way round, I would not be criticizing anything about the albion right now but concentrating on my own team. You really look idiotic and jealous criticizing the baggies.
44 nathan,we aint bothered wot defence we play agenst we will rip them apart just as we did in the championship, boing boing going up the MOWBURY WAY
LAURA sex bomb just bin on i thought of you and went all funny boing boing going up with laura xxx
xxxlaura i love you xxx
47,malvenwolf, i cant stand divers either remember kites at coventry boing boing gone up the MOWBURY WAY
Hi Nathan-how are you mate.
I only have a pop at the ridiculous the irksome or
the downright nasty, sometimes a combination of all three.
Regarding Nathan, i think he wants the E&S to
pay him for his blogging, whereas Bomber is wealthy beyond the realms of imagination, so he does it for the love.
Good points Re: the Megson tenure………….
the truth is though Nathan, we were not good enough, and playing as we did in a negative style
does not lend itself to prem survival.
We still may not be good enough, but with TM`s
philosophy, we will have a better chance.
Good luck mate.
albion1879-im just sick of the spin you read from these players. To many weak minded fans believe everyword that spout out.i dont care about mr gera he wanted to go with the other deserters last saeason but no one came in for him.hes not that important to wba,i mean robinson had far more goal assists than gera last season.
albion1879-im”n just sick of the spin these players come out with.To many fans are weak minded and believe it all.The only reason gera spent 2 years in championship was that no one came in for him, believe you and me he was desperate to leave with the other deserters last season.I dont care about mr gera to inconsistent for me.i mean robinson had more goal assists last season than him.
Im good cheers wba forever. Hope you are too?
Ha ha, Nathan wants to get paid for it, the cheeky devil!
Good luck to albion next season. i want them to stay up but only if wolves get promoted as well. I suppose that is a biased bordering on sad way of looking at it but, that’s just me. I want nothing more then wolves to win the prem and albion 2nd year in year out but it’s looking unlikely.
Although, my dad can remember wolves and albion both being great teams, and football teams seem to go around in cycles so maybe one day………..
Nathanwolves
Hi, i am still blogging due to my complete obsession with football, Nathan Llloyd will be back dont worry, the E+S have allowed us to blog during the summer if we wish to do so, and no Nathan has not gone on strike because he wants to be paid!! But the thought made me laugh.
All the best.
Hi Malvern…. Honest answer ?
It’s abit like do i vote labour or tory… whats the difference !!
You get the feeling whoever wins will have done so spending more money than the NHS and to me that devalues the whole thing - which is the problem with football in general and the prem in particular.
I’m pleased that two english clubs have made it (with about 6 english players between them) - but I also wish that a smaller club - maybe a Dutch or german team had got through as a representitive of the real world.
Thanks for the opportunity to actually discuss football - but i understand if i’ve put you off by ranting !!
p.s - I suppose I’d go for Utd !
joke targets - if this is the best the west brum [new name for brums 3rd team]can come up with they will be straight back down. 6 points in the bag for sure for the villa boys next season.keep on happyclapping while you can boggie boys!!!
37. “If he stays i’ll be so happy, if not i’ll be proud he was a Baggie and in my eyes I will always remember him as being an Albion great.”
Couldn’t agree with you more - absolute legend.
Hennessey to Albion, as much chance as Gera staying next season.
moaning dingles make me laugh how many goals did you miss the play offs by?.Next season how many do you think youll score with freddie eastwood gone &seb locked up for his bottle bashing antics(look whats happened to barton)and the rest of your strike force who couldnt hit a donkeys ass with abanjo.I predict a relegation battle which you might not survive. wonder how many times youll hear Mic mac say these words :we were the better team, theyjust scored one more goal than what we did thats all:…
Malvern.
I hope for a Chelsea win. What swung it for me was the way their manager and players responded to defeat by Barnsley. They showed a great dignity and respect for the opposition. Also listening to their fans (mostly local supporters) on the radio, actually giving credit to the team that had beaten them. How unlike Man Ure and their ungracious manager and big headed supporters.
jase various.
Not sure if you really are an Albion fan but if you are you seem to be very bitter and misguided.
58 super villein.
I think you’re a jealous Dingle in sheep’s clothing. Can’t believe a real Villa fan could be this stupid.
im not sure bout hennessey dont keep enough clean sheets for me,miller from ipawich beat him with a 45 yrd free kick he never moved, and the way gera nutmeged him well what can you say, sooner have deano golden gloves boing boing
60. Can I first say that your user name is technically incorrect. Granted, Astle did miss an open goal against Brazil, a game that England lost 1 - 0.
But they still went on to play in the semi final against Germany and managed to lose 3 - 2, this after being 2 - 0 up & coasting. Your name is therefore as ridiculous as the team you support. You can keep Hennessey, you are going to need him big time again next season (your player of the year? - says it all). Hopefully we will keep Gera but if we don’t we will just have to move on, he will be missed but that’s football for you.
