Wolves’ promotion hopes may have been dashed for another year – but one of their players will be walking out at Wembley in a play-off final as he bids to help his second club out of League Two this season.
Young midfielder Stephen Gleeson helped Stockport into the League Two play-off final against Rochdale after County beat Wycombe 1-0 and 2-1 in aggregate.
Striker Liam Dickinson’s 20th goal of the season in the seventh minute clinched victory after Wycombe skipper Mike Williamson inexplicably allowed the ball to slip under his feet on the halfway line.
That set up a Wembley final against near neighbours Rochdale, who beat Darlington 5-4 on penalties, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26.
Gleeson’s first goal of the season was the 82nd minute equaliser in the first leg at Adams Park on May 11.
The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international has played six games for Stockport in his second spell at the club, after scoring twice in 14 appearances last season.
He returned to County after playing four games on loan at Hereford in February and March, Graham Turner’s side going on to clinch automatic promotion.
Gleeson has yet to make his full League debut for Wolves, his only start coming in the Carling Cup since signing professional two years ago.

I would like to see Glesson start to appear on the subs bench next season. Will be an asset to to before long.
I reckon he could do a job for us, along with Mark Davies when he comes back…
seems to me that if you want to play at wembley you either play for albion or leave the wolves boing boing up the MOWBURY WAY
Be interesting to see how gleeson plays if he impresses will he get in the MM team?
Not sure about Gleeson, bags of talent but seems a bit lightweight to me, get ‘im on the weights,
hope he proves me wrong tho!!

Terry, I wouldn’t be too vocal about your Wembley exploits if I were you, not got the best track record there have we?
I’ll try again… if he’s any good we’ll have him at the albion… along with hennessy…
in myopinion the way he is going to porgress is at wolves in the first team…. we hav to take these sort of chances because wot i hav sin of him now he looks like a class act. like his goal the other day. just like southampton did on walcott and everton on anichibe he is 17 and he looks 1 of our best players in the next few hyears to come.

Gleeson has the potential to be a really good player. Hope he gets that chance at Wolves and not offloaded to some lower league club.
good luck!nice to see one of our lads at wembley!
I hope Gleeson and Mark Davies are given their chance by Wolves next season. I think they are both better players than the likes of Darren Gibson.
