Elokobi: Lessons have been learned

wd2593886elokobi-3-tt-04.jpgWolves defender George Elokobi insists the team will be stronger next season – after targeting a goal spree for Mick McCarthy’s side.

Elokobi only arrived in January, but played his part in the club’s doomed play-off push.

Ultimately, Wolves came up short as they finished a matter of one goal outside the top six,

But the Cameroon-born left-back is convinced the players will be better for the experience.

“We’ll come back stronger next season. I think exciting times are ahead,” said Elokobi.

“Hopefully next season we can score plenty of goals and having kept 18 clean sheets beat that record as well.

“We’ve got one of the youngest squads in the Championship but have got the players to do well and hopefully clinch promotion next season.

“That’s the goal we’ll all be working towards when we come back for pre-season.”

Elokobi believes mistakes at the end of the games against Ipswich and Southampton cost Wolves dear.

“I know we keep saying, ‘if, if’, but if you look back at things like conceding injury-time goals against Ipswich and Southampton, then it really cost us,” he said.

“That was a big learning curve for us and one we have to take on the chin.

“There wasn’t anything massively wrong here, just little things, and it eventually came down to goal difference.

“It was very disappointing after we finished our last game and the other results hadn’t gone the way we had wished.

“But that’s football and in another sense we know we shouldn’t have left it until the last minute and relying on other teams to do us a favour.”

When are they going to gag some of these players… they spout the same rubbish all the time.

  2. James Wolf said:

Mick and the board have repeatidly said they need to sort out the “molineux factor”, saying expectations are too high and the fans put too much pressure on the team.

Well if the players like Keogh and Elekobi would stop spouting this rubbish maybe it would ease the fans expectations?

  3. wolveswolves said:

George, you are not good enough unless you show a significant improvement in your ball distribution next season.

  4. notawolvesbooer said:

No 1,Why dont you stop spouting your rubbish on these pages, you are so stupid, the players are trying so hard to be possitive for next season. What no one needs is stupid comments like yours, so if you cant support the team, clear off you idiot.

Surely if the players didn’t have high expectations of themeselves that would be worse. The molineux factor will never go away as any season we finish lower than sixth is a failure. I don’t think we are a sleeping giant any more but we should consider ourselves better than Bristol. Hull, Stoke etc …. the team just have to prove it.

1,2 and 3. when are you goung to realise that the success you so desperately want next year isnt going to happen while you and your kind constantly slate the club, the players , the manager, the barstaff, tealady or any other unfortunate enough to breath air within 100 miles of you, you have to give 100% support to the wolves set up from top to bottom because no matter how much you whine, moan and bicker you are not going to change the regime at wolves so live with it, i have!! put up or shut up because it is now getting all very tiresome.

  9. BillWolf said:

George Elokobi needs to sort out his ball distribution aspect but other than that, he is a solid left back with plenty of pace, and is strong in the air, and to find that out, all you have to look at is the plymouth match at the end of last season, fractured skull to the player of the year for plymouth.. get him up front mick!

now im not being funny but surely we should have learnt from out lessons long ago????

last season wasnt to bad purely due to the fact it was a new start but we have scored 162goals in 138 games which works out to be 1.17 goal per league game

our friendly neighbours who have only finished 11pts ahead of us in two combined season have scored

    06/07 46 games 81goals
    07/08 46 games 88goals

works out to 169goals in 2seasons! yes 7 more than us in 3 seasons

Amazing that you actually believe these PR exercises and even more amazing you should tell other fans to clear off for having a say!

What does a government do when their backs are to the wall, they spin every ‘good news’ story they can find. Jez Moxey is just the same he is spinning for his life at the moment trying to deflect people from the truth and that is the team and management are not good enough!

Funny how it is always the better players or the young prospects that are wheeled out to the press. Never the likes of Stephen Ward, Keogh or Mark Davies!

    notawolvesbooer you are so naive!

4 & 6: your resort to mere abuse and trying to shut down free speech shows which side of the argument is the more reasoned. Appeals to fall in line behind the authorities of the club are always doomed to failure. Clearly MM is not going to go now, so we should give the project one more chance. But if we are not among the Championship leaders in November it would take a saint not to complain. How did a club like Pompey, which was languishing behind Wolves for so long , get established in the top bracket? Good leadership….

  21. Newbridge Wolf said:

    12. I think your being naive, what happens when theres no news, papers make it up. That is all that is happening here, the news that comes from the club is on the website, which you’ll notice is considerably less than what is offered here.

Nowing your general negativity I see it as typical that you would blame the club first though

That said, Elokobi is not too short of being a good player, he just lacks a bit of consistency in his distribution. He can look realy good at times

  22. James Wolf said:

For the record I have been to watch Wolves more times than I can count and have never boo’d the team, mick any players or the tea lady (number 8!) I do still believe in MM and will support anyone in gold and black.

What drives me mad is mixed messages comming from Wolves, they say the fans are too demanding but when they set an expectation of success (as shown in this and many other articles, the chairmans address at the end of the season etc) then fail to deliver season after season fans get frustrated.

Up the Wolves, up MM and up Jez

    Answer two questions

    1. Why is not wanting a second rate manager in charge of Wolves deemed ‘negative’?

    2. Do you really believe that Moxey is not spinning stories out of Molineux?

Perhaps you are more comfortable believing it is the nasty newspaper making stories up about you football club!

  24. brummie rob wolves said:

    9) and 21) Totally agree with both of you, Elokobi is a very good player. His passing when in defence sometimes goes astray but he has whipped some good crosses in, gets stuck in and has pace.
Don’t listen to the whingers, sign a couple of centre halves, a centre forward and someone like Jones and we will be up there next season. We will have the likes of Murray, Lee Collins, Davies, Gleeson and Gobern challenging for places next season!

I could talk about many of the things that have happened to the club since 1973 when I first started going to games, but I don’t really see the point do you?

I won’t be happy until McCarthy and this regime is gone so what I suggest you do is don’t bother to read my posts then you can go along your merry way can’t you!

Yes,I agree the team will be stronger next year and will improve their game. The problem is,as always in this division there will be SIX different teams(3 UP,3 down) and its like a different league. This “regime” is not that bad compared to previous regimes.
The fact is weather you like McCarthy or not he is here to stay until Morgan says other wise, so there is no need to sulk.
I am sick of the “quick fix” policy of the past and hope we give the man a chance.

While you happy clappers keep condoning the rubbish we are being served, then we will get nowhere. Those of us with our own opinions have a right to speak out, and it is from change that we will move forward, not from this current hopeless situation.

Next season we have to face QPR with the richest board in the history of football, Chelsea look like peasants compared with the wealth of those owners, along with 3 demoted clubs whop are light years ahead of us, and armed with oodles of parachute money. Then there are the 5 who made the playoffs ahead of us. That is 9 teams who have proven themselves to be much better than the happy-clappies favourites!

There is no way that our current, unprofessional approach will move us forward at all. We will be lucky to stay in the top half next season, unless a miracle happens!

  75. London Wolf said:

    Abdon :

Points I have raised again and again and again (not always directly in reference to you, but forgotten by you none the less) :

    1) Fans booing players in general, and at times after one mistake are part the problem.
    2) Fans cheering for substitutions after a mistake (keogh / freddy) are part of the problem.
    3) The general “We are Wolves and have a divine right to promotion” attitude is part of the problem.
    4) The fact that (in my opinion) Dave Jones and Graham Taylor were sacked far too early because of fan pressure of the like that you are spouting now is part of the problem.
    5) Re the above, changing a manager every two years costs a fortune, provides no consistency, and I don’t want to end up like Leicester, Nottignham Forest or Leeds, and I think your ideas on how we should progress could easily send us down that path.
    6) That, despite having a mega rich owner, chucking all the cash in the world at it didn’t exactly work at any point over the last 15 years, did it, so why would it now - I like the buying strategy the club has at the moment.
    7) Conpsiracy theories like “promotion not being part of the plan” without any back up what so ever is laughable.

I don’t expect you to agree with any of the above, and thats fine – but the reason you end up in ding dongs with so many people, Sir, is that you’re generally the first one throwing rocks, and you live in a glass house.

    Points 1.2. and 3.

I have never made reference to these points as I don’t have any particular axe to grind.

    4. I agree that Taylor and Jones went and should have stayed, don’t agree that it was fan pressure that made Jones go but agree it was for Taylor.

    5. Is not correct wolves don’t sack managers every 2 years. Was it the fans that sent Leeds and Forest or inept management?

    6. Partly true but we didn’t see his backside for dust when we did actually make it! Dave Jones was our best manager in 20 odd years IMHO and his treatment by not backing him then sacking him was unforgivable!

    7. If you refer back to the ‘conspiracy’ thread you will realise that I was making reference to a post by ‘accountant wolf’ but it has been amusing to keep winding you up about it none the less!
