Shots fired in nightclub

Shots firedGunmen opened fire in a West Bromwich nightclub today in one of three shootings in just over 12 hours in the Black Country and Birmingham.

Two armed men walked into Cascade nightclub at 4.20am firing shots before running off. It is not clear how many people were in the club at the time.

The club, on the site of the former Gala Bingo Hall in West Bromwich High Street was cordoned off by police today.

The drama comes just days after shots were fired around the town centre.

Insp Gill Munslow of West Bromwich Police said: “No one has been injured but we are treating this as a serious incident.”

Today a police van was stationed outside the club with an officer on guard behind a police cordon across the front entrance.

Another cordon blocked off an alley to the rear of the club.

Beth Johnson, aged 24, a student from West Bromwich said: “I can’t believe it, it is really frightening. It certainly makes me worry about going out to nightclubs or even being in town late at night.”

Meanwhile, a man was shot in the leg inn Bilston High Street today.

The 40-year-old, who was recovering in Wolverhampton’s New Cross hospital today, was hit at around 2.40am.

And a man was seriously injured in a shooting in Birmingham yesterday.

The 28-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach at Fallows House in Ruddington Way, Newtown at 3.30pm yesterday and is undergoing treatment in hospital.

A 27-year-old man has now been charged following Sunday’s shooting in the Duchess Parade area of West Bromwich High Street on suspicion of possessing a gun with intent to injure.
