SVR fans banish the cash blues

Severn Valley RailwayThe reborn Severn Valley Railway – reopened at Easter following severe storm damage – is beating the credit crunch reporting passenger levels well ahead of the seasonal average.

Railway bosses was concerned visitors might ‘lose the habit’ of visiting the 16-mile steam heritage line after the link between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth was severed for nine months.

SVR Marketing Manager John Leach today revealed that passengers have in fact given the SVR a tremendous welcome back, voting with their feet.

The seasonal visitor numbers have increased by around 10 per cent compared to last year before the floods which wreaked havoc on the line.

To cope with the increase in passengers, the railway will be putting on extra steam trains during the upcoming late spring Whitsun Bank Holiday week.

The service re-opened on Good Friday helped by garden expert Charlie Dimmock.

Excellent attraction and value for money.
The sales coach at Hampton Loade is a treasure trove of railwayania. If you are after something special ask Barry, or Andy. There is also the sales coach at Bewdley and fund shops at Bridgnorth and Kidderminster. Walks along the Severn Valley are some of the most beautiful you will find in the country. Good fisheries locally and plenty of good pubs and food outlets. Don’t stop in, get out there and enjoy yourself.

We have travelled on the special dining trains a few times now and also the murder mystery dining services. I cannot recommend these enough and the serving staff on these services are all volunteers. I think that says something about their commitment and also how much they enjoy it also. We travelled from Kiddi - Bridgnorth last week and the sights and food were lovely.
