Norwich and Derby have joined Coventry and Crystal Palace in a four-way tug-of-war for Wolves misfit striker Freddy Eastwood.
Coventry chairman Ray Ranson revealed yesterday the Sky Blues will make a renewed bid for the 24-year-old in the near future.
The Sky Blues are likely to make a reduced offer for the former Southend man after his failure to win his way back into contention after Wolves pulled the plug on a £1.5m switch in March.
But I understand the Ricoh Arena is still Eastwood’s preferred destination as he ideally wants to stay in the area. And news of Coventry’s interest has pricked up the ears of other Championship clubs, and the Canaries and the Rams are the latest to toss their hats into the ring after Palace were also linked this week.
Norwich have lost Darren Huckerby while Derby are looking to completely rebuild after their miserable Premier League campaign.
Palace have been heavily linked with Eastwood, especially now they have lost in the play-offs to Bristol City.
And Eagles boss Neil Warnock, who loses James Scowcroft and possibly fellow out of contract striker Clinton Morrison this summer, may well be tempted to turn to the one-time Southend marksman.
But sources close to Eastwood say the Essex-born striker favours staying in the Midlands and Coventry are in pole position. Eastwood was made available for offers by McCarthy last week.
Derby’s former Albion striker Rob Earnshaw is NOT one of Wolves’ targets at this stage, however.
Rumours have spread claiming boss Mick McCarthy had made an offer to the ex-Baggies hitman.
But promoted League One side Nottingham Forest are the more likely suitors amid talk of a £2m-plus bid.
Sheffield United – for whom last summer’s Wolves target Billy Sharp has barely figured – are Forest’s rivals for Earnshaw’s signature and have also made an offer.
But any conclusion to any deal will have to be placed on hold as Earnshaw went away on holiday yesterday.

If he is so bad why are all these clubs that will prob be pushing for promotion after him..I can see this Player comeing back to haunt us.
Here we go! I dont care who has him, just get rid!
Good to know there’s so little interest in Freddy ! Good Luck
If Freddy’s no good why do all these clubs want him? They all have experienced managers, surely they would realise it,he’s no good.Ask Mick.
Come on Jez use the magic and get more money then we paid
It amazes me that our other strikers are not being targeted apart from the prolific SEB. If he is in demand it surely shows the potential us wolves fans already know he has. For me it is a lose, lose situation for wolves as Eastwood seems to be the championships must have wanted property.
Mick – put your clear differences aside and manage the lad
all these teams wanting to sign a crap striker, makes me think we may be missing out on a good player
Maybe if he his such a so called lazy player, the Albion could get him and he could become our fox in the box, when the best midfield in the world lay on all these chances for him.
Imagine that Freddy 20+ goals in the Prem for the baggies
ps above is only a vivid imagination, and not me being serious
NO2.Bury your head in the sand if you like-if you know anything about football, you would have to admit that F.EASTWOOD is a good player.Remember M.Mcindoe was bombed out last season-i rate him better than JARVIS-you may well disagree-the game is about opinion.
These are honest questions to all those fans out there that back McCarthy for whatever reason.
Do you really think that last seasons catalogue of disasters (Eastwood is only one of many)is just a blip and that next season if we stick with him we will be promoted?
If you think that what is the main reason for thinking that?
Is there not a niggling doubt that he will fail?
Is your justification just a matter of ‘its time to stop swapping and changing’?
Just wondered if someone could answer those because I rarely hear reasons why McCarthy should stay and none of them have convinced me yet!
As in life sometimes personalities clash. This is a prime example of a face not fitting. Is Rosa another example? Any way get the best price for Freddy and we move on.
clinton morrison is out of contract
why dont we sign him on a free?
9,you been on those mushrooms again? Best midfield in the world? Arn’t we in for a shock…………..
Whatever your view on Freddy, I think it comes down to the fact that one player does not make a team.
If the rumours of Freddy being disliked by other team members for his attitude are true, then surely no matter how good he is, we’re better off with him out of the club?!
The same would go for any of the other players too. If SEB was causing friction in the dressing room, I would want him gone!
sharp and eastwood both made huge impacts last year. funny that
From what a fair few people are saying, MM wasn’t the only one he had bust-ups with. there were several in the squad that he didn’t get along with. You only had to look at what happened when anyone else scored. All of the team would run to congratulate them. Not Mr Eastwood though. More to this than meets the eye I think.
I’d have to wonder why anyone would support Mick - sure he did a great job in his first year, however do you see him getting Wolves promoted? And if so, can you see Wolves staying up?
I can’t remember who it was that spent a ton of money & only barely stayed in the Prem, but should we get there I can’t see us spending - therefore I feel we’ll probably be the “Derby” of the campaign. We need a coach with ambition - someone who says “when we get promoted, I want X amount of money to spend” not someone like Mick who will ask for £5m and buy a bunch of guys who will ‘try hard’… we’ve been there before, and although 2003 was fun at times, it ultimately ended with us back down in the fizzy pop league.
Just when did Mick manage to film this TV Commercial that is about to be launched ?
Surely not when our Promotion/Play-off Bid was gaining momentum ??
TV Commercials aren’t shot in 5 minutes so the question remains - when ??
Let us not forget the strange decision to appear in the BBC Studio for the Barnsley v Chelsea Cup-tie (a day we weren’t playing), rathger than view our next opponents Preston who were at Charlton the same afternoon. Incidentally for those you can’t remember…we lost at Preston !
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Is this more drivel from imagination land then ?
Dear god, i can imagine the break ups you had with your 1st girlfriend or boyfriends…..
11 Abdon :
1) No, last season wasn’t a blip, it all part of a huge conspiracy to ruin Wolverhampton Wanderers whilst making Moxey, MM and Morgan million and millions and millions - by remaining in the Championship.
2) Its obvious why I think this, its all a huge consiracy to ruin Wolverhampton Wanderers and they must be making millions and millions and millions by keeping us in the Championship.
3) No, there is no niggling thought that they will fail because its all part of a huge conspiracy to keep Wolverhampton Wanderers in the chamionships - where they will all make millions.
4) There’s no need to justify anything when they’re making millions by keeping Wolverhampton Wnaderers in the Championship.
Dude - Ive given you my reasons a million times, just accept that people have a different opinion to you. I respect your opinion, I just dont agree with it. You’ve got more gripe with other fans than you have with the club !!!!
SIMPLE
sell eastwood 2m
sign morrison free transfer
Eddie Wolf = If you know nothing about footbal which you clearly do then its best not to say anything because you look like an idiot.
Freddy good luck son where ever you go. I know you will stick a couple past us. Clinton Morrison,,,,err if we went for him then that would be a backward step, I got a feeling MM will go back in for Billy Sharp.
I too would love to know when MM could find the time to record a commercial! Who does he think he is, he has done nothing to warrant a commercial, he should think about sorting out deals rather than his own self promotion!
Not quite right, E & S. Sharp barely figured under Bryan Robson but has played much and scored many since Blackwell arrived.
I wonder if that’s a case of a more flexible manager giving a player of undoubted ability much needed confidence!
Oh and whilst we’re contrasting mercurial strikers and their treatment from Championship managers, maybe Lee Trundle and Gary Johnson are an example to follow. Signed for big money, he struggled but was still worthy to be picked when the club was struggling and he did the business on Tuesday.
I’m not either pro or anti-Eastwood. I just have this nagging feeling that a manager with better man-management skills might have avoided this scenario!
Obviously teams are going to be interested in Freddy, he is a good player when he plays and plays in his correct position. MM wants him to track back and put a shift in, your just all “sad heads” and “nuggets”, what do you know
If freedy played in his own position and style he would do well. He simply does not fit into Mick’s plans.
MM should go, he hasn’t achieved his objectives at the start of the season despite the board backing him to the hilt.
SEB in January - fair play to SM, if I was chairman I wouldn’t have sactioned that move simply because we had about 6 strikers at the club. He has the boards backing, and will do for a while yet, so therefore I think we should back MM for the time being (even though I think he should be sacked - contradiction in terms i now) and wish Freddy all the best.
Would you swap Freddy for Rob Earnshaw? I WOULD!!!!
The only fans who seem happy at Freddaaaaaaaay coming to their club is Chaventry.
Palace, Derby & Norwich fans only see him as a squad player nothing else.
Which makes you think…………
Derby would rather have David f’n Healy !!!!
Maybe MM’s commercial was an attempt at showing a “lighter side” of MM?
A PR exercise?
Here’s an idea MM let’s not sell him, and actually give the bloke a chance!
Great news. Hopefully we can milk some poor club out of 2 million for Freddy. Lets face it, rate him or not, he’s been a complete disaster for wolves. His performances have been mediocre at best, and he’s been a disruptive influence in the dressing room.
And it may mean a stop to all the non sensical bleating that appears on these comments. Quicker he’s gone the better.
Sheril McDonald would be a good signing for wolves. He scored 6 in 4 games on loan at hereford.
28 - Broken record. Just accept the fact that Eastwood is going. If you rate him that highly why not buy him a nice awning or maybe a new calor gas bottle?
Just get the most money in for Freddie and buy some Quality in!
Loads of smoke around about Freddie, the sooner he goes the better, IMO!
Sell him to the highest bidder.
Hasnt Berger been lobbed out of Villa, he could do a job?
Elliot was the better player last season(according to the gaffer), dont see any tug of war going on there. I wouldnt see Freddie to another championship club it will cost us goals.
34 you are an imposter, get your own screen name!!!
Good point though but change your name!!!
5) Over the last 2 days people have praised up Moxey and his dealings. Very good with Camara, not particularly with Lescott or Seoul and look at Frankowski and Silas - nothing.
The glorified accountant, who is forcing loyal fans out of their seats in the Billy Wright, should be on his way with a pie and a pint!
Remember we have a very good business man in Morgan at the helm and surely a company like Chaucer has someone cheaper who can balance books?
I think even though most of us don’t like it, Freddie is gone. The interesting thing to see now is, we see other clubs all the time getting ridiculous figures for there players (Heskey 5.5M, etc), can Moxey do the same? will he use the “Tug of war” and his so call “business sense” to get more money? or we will sell another quality player for peanuts with no sell on clauses? (Keane)
eastwood is good.but he does not fit in .GO NOW WITH ANYBODY ELSE WHO DOES NOT MICK AND REST OF TEAM ARNT GOOD ENOUGH . WE ARE WOLVES
21. London wolf
Are you ‘on’ something?
There must be a point to your post?
London wolf says
“You’ve got more gripe with other fans than you have with the club !!!!”
Your post and what you say above strikes me that you need to look in the mirror sunshine!
I’m sure that if you did you would start an argument with your own reflection!
Must have missed the ‘millions’ of posts, what a shame, I’m sure they were very interesting!
London wolf
Three quarters of posts on here are gripes with each other, isn’t that the point?
If you missed that you must have your head permanently in the sand!
Great news. That should drive the pricve up. We can at least get our money back and buy a decent striker. Happy days.
Get rid of Fredy and Mick!
SUPERSTARDJ:
I know I’m a bit harsh on the bloke and he aint as bad as I sometimes made out. I just get frustrated at this constantly evolving saga!
Hold on and let’s see who goes up from League 1 We might have all but Mick bidding for him!
Of the club mentioned I think Crystal P will be our toughest opponents next year. As he couldnt score for Southend and couldnt score for us it would be nice if Crystal P bought him so they get in the same goalscoring trouble as we have had this season. Still cant understand that some people dont see that it was Eastwoods nonscoring that spoiled our season. Again: Didnt score in his last 32 games, more than 1500 minutes of football. He is ju NOT a great striker!
Oj joy…..can hardly contain myself …..Prem here we come…. MM is looking at Howard from Leicester……an ageing bruiser. The season ticket sales are sure to go thru thr roof now.
47) you thought id would be any different?
Muppet will be Out by December, hope our season is still salvagable from there.
Have any of these clubs got a really good centre half to come our way in exchange?
I’m left cross by the E&S accusation that Freddy is a misfit. The only misfit at the Wolves is McCarthy. He is the one who should be down the road, and not one of our few international players.
Agree with no. 50
Talking of Hinton reminds me of when Alan Hinton scored 4 in a game, I think in a 5-0 thrashing of Fulham a Craven Cottage. In those days it was a pleasure to watch Wolves
Back to present - Darren Huckerby now available?
50 what do you base your assessment on? Have you attended training sessions, travelled on the team bus for away games? SEB as settled in no problem, so is it the club, is it the team, is it the manager or is it the player?
I wished muppet mick was going instead of freddy, never mind he will be gone soon.
