Fire crew frees stuck dog

Six-year-old Alsation cross Oliver somehow became lodged under the old refrigerator unit outside The Vine, in Dartmouth Street, West Bromwich.

Landlord Sarbjit Chauhan said he thinks the dog had been chasing his pet puppy, but had not been able to fit through the same gap.

“I just came out to let the cleaners in and called for the two dogs,” he said. “The puppy came running straight away, but there was no sign of Oliver. I was calling for a bit and then I heard a bark.

“I’m not sure how he managed it, but there he was, stuck under the unit. I tried to get him out, but it didn’t work.”

Neil Bennett, from West Bromwich Fire Station, said they were called to the pub at around 11.30am yesterday.

“We used high-pressure air bags to lift up the container and get the dog out and it was good to see it seemed okay after being released,” he added.
