Edwards hopes nightmare is over

14339492.jpgDavid Edwards prepares to pull on a Wales under-21s jersey against England admitting his time at Wolves has been the most frustrating of his career.

The clash at Wrexham is the first meeting between the countries for many years.

But it’s not the prospect of testing himself tonight that is particularly inspiring for the Wolves midfielder. Of course he would love to beat an English side – but more than anything, the former Shrewsbury man just wants to be playing. Groin, then knee injuries have restricted the 22-year-old to just 10 League games since his £675,000 move from Luton in January.

And for a player who had had enjoyed a virtually unbroken spell of first-team football since his emergence at Gay Meadow, his time at Molineux has been some of the most frustrating of his young career.

“It will be good for me because my match fitness isn’t there after missing pretty much the last six weeks of the season,” said Edwards.

“It will be nice to keep me ticking over until next season, which I’m already really looking forward to.

“It’s been very frustrating but hopefully that’s all out of the way now.

“I’ve never been injury-prone, these have been my first real injuries, so hopefully next season I can get back in the team and kick on.”

Edwards added: “I thought I started quite well. We had a few good wins on the road which I was involved in and probably played nine or 10 games before the groin injury.

“It had been nagging me for a few weeks but I played through it.

“Once I got over that I felt brilliant again and had been back training for a couple of weeks. I wasn’t involved in the squad for the West Brom game but was called in for the following game against Ipswich. It was great to get that recognition because I’d been working really hard to get back.”

Edwards and keeper Wayne Hennessey are expected to be in the Welsh starting line-up, but Michael Kightly is out with an ankle injury.

“It would have been nice to be playing against Kights, but it wasn’t to be,” said Edwards. “For me, hopefully I can be involved in some capacity in the full games against Iceland and Holland.”

Edwards believes he will cope tonight. “I feel good,” he said. “I’m naturally quite fit, and I always do a lot of cardio-vascular work.”

I hope so too. Then you can replace Oli in the middle of midfield. Your a lot better than him.

David Edwards is still in the ‘can in the future’ category. He’ll probably play 25 to 30 games if he stays injury free.

    Very very good prospect

By the look of the transfer list at the poorthornes you will be starting the season without any top players!

5 with Mad MM still in charge, I would worry about who he intends to bring into your club,
Maybe he will sign another, best ever S Ward,
or 5 or 6 mackems that Roy boots out.

Why don’t we all take a chill pill, give up on our pity parties, and just see who Mick brings in over the Summer. He seems to have looked at the squad, put the ones who haven’t worked out on to the transfer list, and hopefully is looking at bringing in two CB’s, at least one striker, and a few youngsters already at the club as back-ups.

Hopefully we will see Davies, Gleeson, Gobern, Little, Lee Collins, Liam Hughes, Dan Jones, Elliott Bennett and a few others of our own youngsters at least play a part this season.

If Davies can be fit we don’t need to sign a midfield playmaker. He is exactly that. Our midfield has a surfeit of riches. In addition to those mentioned, we also have Kights, Jarvis, Olly, Edwards, Henry. There are at least two full sets of midfielders there that would get in most Championship sides.

In my opinion, CB is our biggest area of weakness, but maybe Little and Elokobi may eventually be playing there. We still need another two though, for now.

Why do I think he will become yet another player who comes to Wolves and picks up a long term injury. I suspect the fitness coaches are doing the wrong things. You rarely see United players suffering bad and long term injuries. Why so we seem to get it at Wolves. Is Daily teaching them how to get injured as he knows better than most.

It doesn’t matter if densely-structured Mr McCarthy does not play the young Edwards guy. He is yet another young player with International status.

That makes him worth money, and once again shows what a great job Mr Moxey is doing with this team. He has added so much value in here that it is very impressive.

The bottom-line is that this is a company that is capable of returning the owner about £10M each year for his original £10 investment! Now that is impressive!

People trying to rock the boat need discouraging.

i would like MM to sign junior agogo, doubt forest will let him go though - maybe on a swap for Kightly?? we need to be addressing the fact that forrest are a force and next year it will be tough fixtures for us and the rest of the league if they sign big!!

Yes you are probably very near to the truth.
Lets hope it does not occur, but until enough fans voice for MM to go then worry.
Shame if it does happen as it could ruin a possible young players career.
