Polish boss fires a broadside

albionbadge1.jpg

Albion target Radoslaw Majewski has been told that a move to Albion could ‘kill his career’.

Polish national coach Leo Beenhakker issued the astonishing outburst amid speculation that the 21-year-old playmaker could be on his way to The Hawthorns in a £2.3m move from Groclin Dyskobolia.

Beenhakker also referred to Albion’s style of play as ‘direct and functional’, which would indicate that the 65-year-old former Real Madrid boss has not been a regular visitor recently.

“If Majewski moved to West Bromwich Albion it would make no sense whatsoever,” Beenhakker said.

“They are not going to be needing creative midfielders but the kind of players they need to stay up. They are going to be battling against relegation.”

Direct & functional - this guy really knows his football…. apparently he also said that the red kit we wear is awful too….

    What a goon !!

  3. Baggie Boy said:

I think he will find that many players would still prefer to be in a relagation fight in the best league in the world than playing in a country that speedway, gets bigger attendances than football!!!

i think he knows what hes talking about ex real madrid boss! what hes saying is, you will not play the same football next season as you have this season or you will get battered, you will under the gosh in 90% of the games as we know the premier league is a massive step up. he wants the lad to be a good international player and lets be fair once geras gone you havnt got any international calibre players! going down!

Lets hope the player has been watching our matches not Stoke. What a stupid statement to make kill his career to play football in the best league in the world!!!!!

  9. Happy_baggie said:

Yes he coached real madrid - in the 80’s !!

More recently he has coached De Graafschap and Club Guadalajara and İstanbulspor A.Ş.

Since starting his career in 1972 he has stayed NOWHERE longer than 2.5 years….

Definately a man worth listening to….

    @ laughingwolf

sorry mate, but you’re totally wrong.

the premiership is a more “open” playground. the fact is, our guys can keep the ball (as we proved against you lot more than once).

don’t get me wrong, i think we will still be lucky if we finish out of the bottom three, but i don’t think we’ll be under the “gosh” - i assume you mean cosh - for 90% of the time.

  12. baggie_kez said:

    6. its not the player saying he doesn’t want to come, stupid international managers poking their noses in AGAIN!

3 previously capped Phillips England, Albrechtsen Denmark, Bednar Czech Republic.
Thats 13 already not including under 21 internationals and the like, like current ones Moore and Miller England, McDonald Holland and past ones like Greening England.

We are all season ticket holders amongst friends BUT laughingwolf michael and optimistic you are poor excuses for football fanspssibly a poor excuse for human beings.

  24. Jonathan said:

He’s getting us confused with Wolves after they slaughtered that Polish lad they used to have up front.
Admittedly Molineux is the death knell for internationals, but he should not confuse us with them just because we are geographiclly close.

  25. GeraGeraGera said:

I agree with the bloke, he’d be much better off playing undirect and disfunctional football at Molineux, now that really would put an end to his international career …. Seriously, if he wants to talk to up and coming internationals about what Premiership exposure at the Hawthorns can do tell him to speak to Kieran Richardson or Thomas Kuzczsak … Richardson broke into the England team on the back of his Albion performances, and Kuzczsak got a move to Man. U, how much career progression does a player need !

  26. Happy_baggie said:

22 Natalie K. Blimey, I never realised we had so many Internationals. Good bit of research. PS: We have just lost one to Portsmouth but even the best nets lose a fish or two.

  35. Redge999 said:

Im a wolves fan and this bloke is talking rubbish, the albion play good attractive football(over playing at times) and if this guy were to sign he would have a decent chance of making it in the prem, he will play more games than some other clubs and have the chance to make a name for himself. I dont think you will be relegated and this is just an old fashioned manager talking rubbish with his out of date coaching methods.

  36. Boris's Johnson said:

    24. Molineux may be the death knell for Polish internationals called Frankowski. The reality is he didn’t perform. If you look at the current crop of youngsters at Molineux you will see that their international careers are doing very well since joining us: Kightly (England), Keogh (Rep of Ire), Hennessey (Wales), Kevin Foley (Reb of Ire).

  37. SherpaVanDiv4winners said:

It’s well known that Bully’s International career was catastrophically cut short by sticking with the Wolves at the Nugget Bowl…as was er..Breen’s :-))

I heard a few more reports that Alexandre Song is on his way to the baggies on loan next season. What a quality signing that would be. He can play at full back or centre back. His pace and strength would be invaluable at the back!

  39. UCEWolf said:

21 - Gera’s agent is Sam Stapleton, I have not seen that name in your line up recently - so I doubt he plays for you!

24 - Or maybe he is looking at Slusarski?

Either way, speaking from an outsider looking in, I find his comments really quite baffling. As much as it has hurt me to say it, I have been saying since December that Albion’s style of football is the difference between staying in the Premiership and getting to the Premiership. I would call Stoke a “direct and functional” football team, and going on how Wolves have played this season that expression would be a compliment to us.

Note the former Real Madrid boss and now national coach of Poland. I don’t see Poland reaching any great heights in the last few decades ? I think Beenhakker must have been down the road to the Molineux where he saw poor tactical play ? How long before it is Mick McCarthy Ex Wolves boss ? I will have a small wager on him being the first Championship manager to be sacked next season.
We may as well sign him if he does want to come. If he does not play well he can go hop, fruit, or potatoe picking with his fellow folk in Hereford and Worcestershire.

Sandwell Massive- Lovin it - Championship Medicracy again at the Custard bowl next season and as for Killing someone’s career coming to the Hawthorns when no one outside Poland has heard of him. This is absolute rubbish.
It’s done wonders for Gera and Koren. Admittedly it will be hard to bring players in. We are now a smaller fish in a huge pond and we all know ToMo won’t bring in rubbish so we (the fans) have to be patient through the minefield of rumours and chip paper and trust TM and GP get the right players at the right place.

Beenhakker is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world. He has coached Real Madrid and won the division with them.
He won the dutch cup with Feyenoord. And he qualified with Poland to Euro 2008.

Luke Moore was behind Agbonlahor - value say £10m, Carew £5m and Young £8m. Didn’t get a regular look in but got a hat trick in the prem to his name. Another failure.
