Foley: I’d rather be in play-offs

foley4.jpgWolves full-back Kevin Foley would gladly sacrifice his first cap for the Republic of Ireland for a place in the play-offs.

The 23-year-old was one of three Wolves players named in a youthful first Irish squad for Giovanni Trapattoni with transfer-listed midfielder Darren Potter and striker Andy Keogh.

The Wolves trio are in the 28-man party for friendlies against Serbia at Croke Park on May 24 and Colombia at Fulham on May 29, preceded by a training camp and two games on the Algarve.

Former Luton defender Foley has his best chance yet to impress after Liverpool right-back Steve Finnan was one of three players to continue his self-imposed exile from international football.

But Foley would swop it all for a place in the play-off final, where former Molineux team-mate Michael McIndoe sealed Bristol City’s Wembley date last night.

“If I played, it would help get over the disappointment of the play-offs,” said Foley.

“But I’d rather be in the play-offs than playing for Ireland because you can’t beat the play-offs for club football.

“It would be an honour if I get to go with Ireland this summer. I’ve been on the bench a few times for the qualifiers but I’ve never came on. With a new coach, you have just got to look to impress from the word go really.”

Keogh said: “Two other Wolves lads are in as well so it will be good. There’s a new manager and it’s up to us to impress as new faces.

“I’ve just got to try and show what I can do in the training camp and then hopefully get a run-out in the games.

“It’s a big squad of 28 but it’s nice to be in with it and hopefully finish the season with a couple of caps.

Darron Gibson, who spent the second half of the season at Wolves on loan from Manchester United, is one of five players out injured.

Hey Buddy (post 1.) calm down, he’s only telling the truth to a journalist. Shall we all try and move on from this season because lets be honest we would have had to spend a minimum of 50 million to even have the slightest chance of staying up in the Prem. Hopefully, with some new blood we can get a team playing good, vibrant footy, because lets be honest the necleus of young, hungry players is there for all to see. Lets get behind the team and move on!

Can we get an injunction out against the clubs players, the fat controller and muppet banning them from interviews so we draw a line under this season and just move on to next season. I’m getting sick of reading all of these interviews now…yes I know some of these players are just answering journos questions but they shouldn’t go near them in the first place because these stories are just winding the fans up more and more to the point where some are showing real animosity toward each other on these threads

shame they only try to impress a new manager, pity they didn’t impress a few supporters this year.

Seems Mick has his work cut out if we only have 3 of the 28 man squad.

“im going to score 15goals from midfield”

So you want Wolves players and managers to impress supporters, get real this is football we are talking about. MM JM and the players don’t do impressing they do fan assassinations, broken promises and frustration.

  16. BENNYBOY said:

Foley why not sign for Bristol City quick !!!!
You are going to wait along time to reach any future playoffs.
Wolves players still coming out the wood work to voice the same tune.

Actually I’d rather us not be in the play-offs but already promoted.

I’d rather he was playing for Sunderland!!!!!!!!

We are really rubbish and cannot hope to get close to that lot down the road for the foreseeable future. Foley is just stating the blindingly obvious. I would rather we had been promoted instead of watching another year (At Least) of Micks boys putting in a shift!!!!!
I bet Morgan regrets wasting his tenner.
