Rumours of star moves

foley4.jpgWolves and West Brom could be losing two of their fullbacks according to reports today.

Reports from the north-east say that Sunderland boss Roy Keane is after Wolves right-back Kevin Foley.

The Black Cats boss is said to be on the verge of offering around £2m for Foley who has been one of Wolves best players over the last season.

Joining him going north could be Albion left-back Paul Robinson who is said to be on the Celtic shopping list.

Ironically, if Robinson joins the Hoops he would be replacing former Wolves full-back Lee Naylor who is expected to be leaving Celtic during the close season.

could be a good deal, foley started well this season, but i don’t think he gets forward enough… and we have mark little who i think is a better player..

    i would say “deal”

MICK GO GET NAYLOR TO REPLACE ELOKOBI
I KNOW MICK DIDNT WANT HIM TO LEAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE

we have mark Little let him go for 2.5 million

what do you want elokobi replaced for?

  7. rowley,wolves said:

where do you get this about foley being one of the best players.yes,he started well, but i first noticed him getting worse against bristol city,on november 3rd,& since then has steadily got worse(apart from the game he went in midfield).get rid of him & put little back in the team.

  8. Bournemouth Wolf said:

Why are we letting the good players go? Foley is a decent player. We should hang onto him.

Is this another lesson in how to build up the fans confidence for next season by MM. Let’s hope it’s just a rumour!

I respect your view but its a dangerous slippery slope if you’re not careful. What do Hennessey, Kites, SEB and Jarvis think if they see a team mate off to the Premier League.

I’d rather stick with the Chairman’s view and sell none of them

  10. wbabomber said:

I wouldnt like to see Robbo go, but i think players often look at Scottish football and see that it is basically a two team league and if you sign for either Rangers or Celtic you are more or less guaranteeing yourself a medal or two.

  11. Poor little dingles. said:

Well if robbo goes best of luck to him. Champions league football, can’t knock him.

But… it’s speculation at min so lets not worry our pretty little faces..

  12. Bully4Engalnd said:

I’d sell him for £2m. Crikey, if Lescott is only worth £4m then this is a good deal for Wolves.

In my opinion, he is too weak and got worse throughout the season… he actually played superb in midfield when asked at the Molineux.

We could get a lad called Rob Edwards to play right back!

  13. IanTheLichfieldWolf said:

Yes, Mark Little is a good prospect but if we are serious about promotion we have to build strength in depth. Have options.

Selling Foley would be counter-productive. We don’t need the money (supposedly) so why are people suggesting we should sell him?

Anyway, let’s take a deep breath. We should brace ourselves for a lot more of this stuff in the next few weeks. If half of it’s true I’d be surprised.

  14. The Wolf said:

Shows the ambition at the club if Foley goes. Hes young and will improve, whats the point of selling our young players and becoming a feeder club for premiership clubs? We will never get to where we want to get to if continue to do this.

  15. Andy said:

We could easily get a rb as good as Foley for half a mil so I would snap Roy Keane’s hand off. I don’t think he crossed the half way line this year!!

  16. tonimischi said:

Can we have Lee Nalyor back please…world class hoofer!

  17. Grace said:

    £2.5 m???

Goodbye Mr Foley, average at best.

  18. Bully4Engalnd said:

Its a bid strange at the minute. We dont need the money yet we wont seem to spend any (Newcastle defender). It doesnt bode well..anyway I’m sad in the head.

  19. brummie rob wolves said:

I agree with some of the comments on here. If we get £2.5 million good as Mark Little was quality last season. If Murray is fit, then I would do a deal with Hennessey, as one of them will not be happy on the bench.
Anyway forget who we might sell, with the cull the other day, I am expecting much transfer activity!

  20. MATTyG said:

Id snap their hands off for £2m.
In my opinion hes been one of the worst players this season and anyway,Mark Littles a better player.Gets forward more and is much more pacy

  21. Rugby Wolf said:

Take the money, this is a good deal. Some papers are saying 2.5m. With regards to Lee Naylor he was at the Mol againsy Plymouth sat in an exec box with Matt Murray (lad got his shirt signed), so read into this

  22. Sedgley Wolf said:

get yaself on britains got talent luckylips. that 1 bout robbo 4 England will guarantee you 3 yes’s. lol

  23. Sedgley Wolf said:

    He aint goin nowhere! Guranteed!!!!!

  24. Razor said:

I like Foley - but Little is a far more exciting player, particularly going forward. He has had some rave reviews this year for Northampton, and that loan experience will have toughened him up. Good business to get 2.5 mill for Foley and bring Little back into the team - he was great last season and linked really well with Kightly down the right.

  25. NoSunderlandRejects! said:

no.7 are just another one who comes on here to moan. Foley had a great season, one of our most consistent players. We need to keep players like him, young and hungry. Not sure how you can criticise him. Same goes for you no.12a and 17

  26. LaughinWolf said:

Yo luckylips get yourself on britains got talent, your a class comic!!! That joke about robbo 4 England will guarantee you 3 YES’s!!!! LOL

  27. carl said:

It is quite possible that Naylor will come back to Wolves. If so Elekobi could provide cover both at left back and centre half, where we were told his long term future could lie when we signed him. If we hang onto foley, have little in the squad and sign one decent centre half then there’s pretty good defensive options. Now for the midfield!

  28. Dave S said:

Foley isn’t bad but £2m for him would be way over the odds. I’d snap their hands off if it’s true.

  29. irishwolfhound said:

Keane loves his Irish players even more than MM…”captain fantastic”

  30. E11 Wolf said:

Mick says he is keeping the team together. they are all under contract. They don’t go anywhere until they pay us back with promotion…

Lets see what happens. We must add to and not reduce the squad so Sunderland can go hang. can’t really see Mick selling anyone to Keane anyway. He spent 42 million and still only escaped demotion by a few points. he is vastly overated and next season he’ll be found out.

  31. richwolf64 said:

Im losing the will to live. If anyone brings back Naylor, then I’m off to watch the Baggies lol

robbo is a hardworker and 100 per center at best but he is a decidedley average footballer let him go and get david murphy from blues for 3-4 millon job done!

  34. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

Foley £2.5M if he is worth that on the perfomances I have seen this season then Keano has seen sommat that I aint. Take the money, ok Morgan did say no one is for sale but Mark Little deserves his chance. But we would need cover though if Little gets injured.

  35. TelfordWolves said:

PLEASE DONT BRING NAYLOR BACK!! he is not Irish or used play for Sunderland so thats then.

  36. WakeyBaggie said:

    33 Stevo,
I agree Robbo is committed and tough but he is not a very good fullback. He gives away to many free kicks in dangerouse areas and although the centre backs have been critcised this season both Robbo and Hoefkins do not do what all good fullbacks should which is stop the crosses coming in. let him go and I am sure TM will find a more than adequate replacement.

  37. TelfordWolves said:

Wolves selling players to Sunderland dont be silly.

  38. MATTyG said:

People slagged off Naylor but i was a big fan off his.Hes a wolves fan, and always gave his best! For me his attacking prowess was top class but his defending cud have been better. Put it this way-Elokobi will never be as good

Rather have little than foley anyway! 2.5m for foley (1.75m profit),eastwood 2m (0.5m profit) seems good to me neither player have set the world on fire!!!

  40. Colley Gate Wolf said:

Bringing back Naylor could be a clever PR stunt….forgot Wolves can’t do good PR! Think about it. Since he left us he’s had European experience, played with more international players. His game is bound to have improved plus he’s Wolves thru and thru…the best bit for the fat controller will be the price and the spin line ‘We’ve bought back one of our own ready to storm the league!’

  41. we8wba said:

    SELL

we have perfectly good replacement who is ready to play now

the 2m-2.5m can be spent on a quality centre midfielder

as for naylor i always liked the chap, only real left back we had since tommo in mid 90s. gone are the days when we could take good throw ins and set pieces - everyone only just realising how good nails was for us

  42. MARK TIPTON said:

Everyone as a price and for 2.5 million i think that Foley could be easily replaced

  43. wolfshead said:

“we have perfectly good replacement who is ready to play now…”

we should not be even contemplating selling any player who fits in with the grand plan and is capable of contesting for a starting place.

Anything for Robbo…..He has a very narrow forehead and liable to do crazy things in advanced positions..the fact that he is even being talked about of as an England player tells you just how dire the dirth of talent is at International level….Any offers snatch their hands off!!!!!….

DEFO SELL FOLEY FOR £2.5M .LITTLE IS ENGLAND CLASS . SELL KITES TO WUFC £5M BRING BACK NAYLOR ON A FREE ELOKOBI TO LEFT WING. NEW CENTRE HALF PIQUE FROM MUFC ON LOAN WOULD DO. SO £1.5M FOR FREDDY + £2.5M FOR FOLEY + £5M FOR KITES.DO NOT SELL HENNESSEY LET MATT MURREY GO INSTEAD.. SOUNDS GOOD . BRING IN A GOOD CENTRE HALF AND GOOD CENTRE MIDFIELD /CAPTAIN AND ANOTHER CENTRE FORWARD TO PLAY WITH SEB

  55. jonus said:

And now it all becomes clear - Keane looking for a RB. Little all of a sudden not played ALL SEASON and bang - Keane wants Foley whos a clever boy then MM. Money for Foley and Little available and un-poached for next season. Well Done !

  56. Shamrock Mick Is God said:

    2 million for Foley!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a late April fool?

Like others, I think Mark Little could do a good job there and we could use some of the money to buy a decent replacement. As for Naylor to replace Elokobi - what about Naylor AND Elokobi. That’s the kind of competition we want in our squad.

  57. jodie said:

    1. I agree. I thought the exact same. He didnt seem/sound convinced. Im a Kights fanatic, and that you could just see all over his face that he wasnt sure. Hope he’s here next season tho ASWELL AS kev !!

  58. Billy Whis-Man said:

Foley to Keane’s army I do not think so, are we really saying he’s worth 2m come on–Nailor is in that case worth 5m. Its crazy Foley is an average players and needs more confidence cannot agree that he has impressed started OK but the got very gittery– I will agree if we can get 2 million for him then lets grabb it-

  59. tom b said:

it would be a good idea to get naylor back down here, he’s had a couple of good years at Celtic and he now probs have enough experience to be solid every game

  60. anglia wolf said:

Plenty worse than Foley in defence last year
He seems sound enough. would be sorry to see him go - unless we get better replacenent (unlikely!)

  61. Cornish Wolf said:

I read with great interest the posts about Various transfer possibilities. What must be born in mind is that many managers have in their contracts a clause which states they will pay part of own their cost to the club by profits from the transfer market. Count the pennies at the end of dealing and see!
    Up The Wolves.

  62. Baggie Bloke said:

We got no chance cant keep hold of the core of the team we will become another derby. Sorry to sound negative baggie fans but we need to keep our first eleven and build on it. What you all think????????????

    sell him hes rubbish

  64. Swedewolf Bró said:

To the ones who writes that they don’t rate Foley high and would like to sell:

I think Foley has been one of the best and consistent players this season. He had a dip at the end, that’s true, but he is the player, except Hen, that has played the most matches.

The reason for this is that he is the best at his position. He is also an international and it’s obvious that both MM and Keane (and Carr and the management of the national team) rates him very high.

And (FFS) he is very young and if properly “brought up” he will be a real asset to Wolves for many years to come.

Please, McCarthy. Don’t sell! Please, Foley. Stay!

    UP THE WOLVES!!!

  65. Shropshirebaggie said:

Paul Robinson has contributed immensley since we signed him from Watford, but if he goes he goes. He does give away a lot of free kicks as has already been said above, and he has very little pace, which would be shown up in the premier.

    Good luck to him though!

  66. adie baker said:

We cant stop offers coming in so no point in worrying.
Id be more concerned if clubs werent interested in our players.
Id like to see Lee Naylor back if we could get him at the right price.

  67. foolsgoldwolf said:

Snap their hands off, mark little is far better, quicker and gets forward more!!!

  68. RF said:

as a wolves season ticket holder ive never seen Foley have a good game, if sunderland offer 500k i’d snap there hand off, plenty of better players around

  69. Accountant Wolf said:

Excellent news, more money in the till. The news just gets better and better!

The current management team are excelling themselves. The profits this year will be a record!

  70. Cyril Randle said:

You Wulfies are going to need ALL your good players for next season. If Reading keep Coppell and Brum get their act together, they’ll stretch you to the full for automatic promotion. Derby get big gates and their manager’s done it all before. I shall miss the Championship a little bit, the teams are more even and it then becomes a good manager that makes the difference. I still cannot wrap my head round ’success being 4th from bottom’ in The Prem. Yeuk!

  71. Dudley Wolf said:

Sell Foley to the baggies.OH i forgot they are not spending big for next season are they.Your not fit to shop at TESCO.

  72. Roy the Boy said:

Stop this daft talk about Naylor and get real. He’s now the laughing stock at Celtic that he was at Wolves. Worst full back in the club’s history. Off the wall thought I’d play him in left midfield, he always looked at his best going forward…….now there’s a thought.

  73. Novawolf said:

If Kites is not convinced he wants to stay…..well all the anti MM muppets can now see what all the whinging and booing has done to convince the players of their loyalty. The negative Wolves fans have made us the laughing stock…

  74. Mark Lloyd said:

Waste of time Robbo going to Scotland. Its a Micky Mouse league with only two teams, Celtic & Rangers. If he goes it will end any ambition he ever had of playing regular Premiership football. Stay at WBA Robbo & help us establish our place in the Prem.

  75. Andy_wolves said:

    1) how anyone can complain about Elokobi I dont know. Bit rough around the edges, but so is jarvis. Both have masses of potential and MUST be kept.
    2) Bring back Naylor and were screwed. He was awful for years and when mick finally got rid, i think everyone was happy. Remember how great his long balls and crossing was…my arse was it!!!
    3) Foley has been OK this year, but i would say he is one of our worse players. Mick and Jez have to weigh up the fact that £2m-£2.5m is a very good amount to get for him, along with the fact that it may cause Kights SEB and Hennesy to pay more attention to the prem sides interested in them!

  76. JIWAL said:

But that nice Mr Morgan said we wouldn;t be selling any of the “better” players.First test to his loyalty. However, I think we all know what is about to happen.

  77. Wednesbury_Albion said:

I can confirm that Robbo is going nowhere. He has a medical issue whereby it costs clubs a HUGE amount to insure him against injury - hence why we got him for only £250k.

I don’t envisage anyone coming in for Paul in the near future.

As for the Dingles… Foley is a decent player. Just because he doesn’t attack much doesn’t mean he’s rubbish - have you ever thought that Thick Mick may tell him not to attack much?

Lee Naylor is someone I’ve always liked aswell, to be honest. I thought he was very harshly treated by some of your “supporters” (cough cough…), and you certainly have never replaced him with any sort of quality.

  78. TelfordWolves said:

I dont care about Albion stop posting on here!!

  79. PremierLeagueAlbion said:

If Robbo Thinks he has a better chance of forwarding his career at Celtic then he must be on drugs……Naylor hasnt exactly set the place on fire has he in fact we have hardly heard of him since he left….And as for the Dingles you have already lost the plot so a right back wont hurt you wil it haha BOING BOING

  82. Jacko said:

Genuine cover at Left back with Jones and right back with Little. If Davies and Gobern get fit, potential cover with Gleeson and Bennett. No need to sell but need to get two centre backs and genuine cover for SEB then we have a real squad.

Foley seemed reasonably sound but would hope he still has more to give, maybe take the money would be a good deal.
Heard that Darren Huckerby is available, maybe worth a look, add some experience along with M Gray

  85. debigbadwolfman said:

we need to keep foley but also give little a chance this season. i’d deffo get naylor back still young enough to get a few more years out of yet and still quick . looked a bit more composed when ive watched him for celtic, also more experienced.problem when he was at wolves was that he had to keep covering for the idle mark kennedy and the slow paul butler and took a lot of unfair criticism.could maybe then put elokobi into cb role as he has the pace we desire and is good in the air.
