Edwards: I won’t do a Craddock

rob.jpgRob Edwards admits he won’t ‘do a Jody Craddock’ and convince Wolves boss Mick McCarthy he was wrong to allow him to leave.

Edwards was one of six players under contract told they could leave this week.

Craddock was thought to be surplus to requirements when he was farmed out on loan to Stoke earlier in the season.

But he was recalled, won his place back and has now had his one-year option taken up by the club.

Edwards, however, is resigned to leaving, despite having another year on his contract.

“It’s really great for Jody,” said Edwards. “He’s a really top lad and a great pro, so I’m really pleased for him. He went out on loan and came back and has won a new contract but I don’t think that will happen to me. I want to go somewhere and play first team football. The gaffer has his targets now and that’s the way he wants to go.

“It’s been two years since I was playing 40 games a year and I need to have a run in someone’s team.”

Edwards believes he hasn’t  had the best of luck with injuries after an ankle problem sustained early on in the QPR game kept him out of the rest of the season.

“The last year has been tough being in and out of the team because I’m a footballer and I want to play football,” he said.

“It summed things up for me when I got injured after three-and-a-half minutes against QPR because that was maybe a chance for me to have a run in the team. But that’s the way football goes. You never set out to be injured, you want to be fit to compete.

“It’s still been frustrating because I have got injured at the wrong time when I could have been in the team or in the 16.”

Edwards was one of the surprise names to be put up for sale and he has received plenty of support from fans in e-mails to the Express & Star.

And the Welsh international wanted to convey his thanks for the fans’ kind messages. “It’s really nice of the fans to say good things. I’d like to thank them for their support,” he said.

n Wolves’ youth team will round their season off with a trip to Germany. The youngsters will take part in the three-day Stemwede International Youth Tournament.

The team will be representing Britain and play against some top under-19 sides from Europe and Brazil.

Coach John Perkins said: “We were delighted to be invited to take part. The trip will be of great benefit to the lads’ development. They will get the chance to play foreign opposition and experience different styles of play. I’m sure they will do Wolves proud.”

The other teams taking part are: Americal FC (Brazil), Hertha BSC (Germany), Muhlendreis-Team (Germany), RCD Mallorca (Spain), FC Twente Enschede (Holland), Borussia Moenchengladbach (Germany) and SV Werder Bremen (Germany).

I do think this one is a mistake. If only he’d spoken out publically more often this season over the behaviour of fans. He could have been one of Mick’s blue eyed boys.

Without intending to be detrimental to Neil Collins at all, the fact that Edwards has been allowed to leave, Mick buying Darren Ward and then letting him leave and the Craddock mid-season debacle, does suggest that Super Mick has trouble knowing the difference between certain body parts, if you know what I mean, when it comes to centre halves.

Thanks 4 everything Robbo, Cant understand it personally, Mick wants young hungry players and especially defenders, and we already got one and were letting him leave!!! I know injuries have plagued him, but if he can get fit over the summer and get a good pre season under his belt it could be his season next year!! Last season when rob and collins partnered up, they looked a very decent combo!!!
    I wish all the best

sad to see him go was a true charictor.fair play mick.true fans support you.hes building a team over a few years that will do well in the premiere and get us promoted.there is no point struggling to the premiere b cos were jst gon go back down the next year.in billy davies words b4 the season started[derby].the team needed another two years b4 they were ready to be promoted.now in our case he has recognised the fact that ok some of the playes he bought arent good enough and has got rid of them.so he feels he has to bring in better players for those positions.building a team of hungry young players.why are kites jarvis seb seyi foley hennesy murray henry elekobi freddy potter and keogh all been linked to premiership clubs this year?because there talented and blackburn spurs etc. think they would be good players at the top level.does that not ring bells in peoples ears? nine of those players mick brought in.we wernt ready for the top just yet the team is almost complete bar 5 or 6 players who can actually make an impact when brought off the bench, not like mr lazy eastwood.lads we have a serious team that is being created. next year we will do it.not getting promoted is a blessing in discise.yes it does hurt we missed out but you lot have to realise that we got lucky last year to get to the playoffs.the reason we did so well last year after we wer tipped to go down was because the fans got behind the team and they wernt afraid to try things because no matter what happened in the match the players new that would still get applauded at the end.eg. southampton 6 wolves 0. if that happened this year there would have been riots.why?because wolves fans cant get into there thick heads that the team will be afraid to try anything if they no there going to get booed if they make a mistake.could you work well if your bosses wer shouting obsenities at you while trying to work?i dont think so.and fans who say oh its just constructive critisizm are idiots.10,000 idiots shouting constructive critisizm thats really going to help the lads alright.and constructive critisizm to you fans seems to be in the line of you f in this or you c%^T or you p.thats not being constructive thats just being a thick mindless idiot.how in your small stupid minds is that helpful.?how?how is that going to help a players confidence.?we wer lucky to get anywhere near the playoffs after the way you went on.if we had the same support this year as we did last year things would have been different.but thats not micks fault its yours.true fans should cheer there team on no matter what the score or the football is like or whos playing or whos been brought on as a sub we should cheer because of one key factor bigger than anything else, the unconditional love of our team wolverhampton wanderers

All the best Rob, hope it works out well for you.

I think he’s had a raw deal to put it lightly.

I’ve also noticed that Rob has been used to promote the new kit on the Wolves website under the heading something like “The next generation”. Bit of a PR cock up.

all the best Robbo, you do not deserve this, but you know what we are up against. This is just another decision which many cannot understand. Ironically MM will probably be gone soon!

never had a good game at the club

Cheers Rob, and good luck wherever you end up.
P.S is post number 2) RF a dirty Baggie? Sell Hennessy, sell kightly, sign andy todd, and sign andy cole! Possibly the 4 worst ideas in the history of wolves, and that includes the signing of darrne potter! If mick was to do any of those 4 things he would get absolutely slated! Also bad mouthing R.E who has been nothing short than great servant to our club! Been a good squad player for years now, OK hes never set the world alight, but how often could you lay the blame on him for losing points? Every time hes been called upon this year hes done very well, in fact he was MOTM for me in one game, all of which is much more than could be said about breen and collins.
