Departing Wolves defender Rob Edwards has delivered the perfect goodbye to boss Mick McCarthy by declaring: “He will take you to the Premier League”.
Edwards is one of six players made available for transfer by the club with Freddy Eastwood, Darren Ward, Darren Potter, Stephen Elliott and Jay Bothroyd, while captain Gary Breen has been released.
But 25-year-old Edwards has no hard feelings and is convinced under-fire McCarthy is the man to take the club back to the top flight.
“Mick is the right man to take Wolves to the Premier League, 100 per cent,” said the Welsh international, who has a year on his contract.
“Who can you name who will do a better job? He has experience at all level, from promotion to international.
“If someone said I could spend the next 10 years at Wolves I would have taken it. The gaffer is the right man for the job and I’m sure Wolves will be right up there next season.
“I’ve really enjoyed the last two years. I’ve learned more and I haven’t got a bad word to say about anyone. Wherever I go, I can take on board what I’ve learned.
“With Mick, it’s his mentality. When he first came to the club, he emphasised massively how important it was to work hard.
“But he also told us how much he wanted us to play football and really play a passing game, the way it should be played.
“The way he wants us to play is brilliant and I’m sure next season when he gets the people he wants they will have a fantastic season.
“We were 11 points behind West Brom but you can easily name four games where we’ve lost and been unlucky not to win.”
The Telford-born former Villa defender, who made 100 League appearances in four years at Molineux, was one of the more surprising names made available.
But Edwards has no problems about McCarthy’s decision to sell him.
“I’ve had a fair crack of the whip,” he said. “I’ve had a few injuries which haven’t helped, but I can’t blame that on not playing.
“I’ve played a few games and personally think I could have done better. But I gave everything and the gaffer knows that.”

Thanks Rob for all you’ve done. If you ahd not had such a hard time with injuries, I’m sure you would have stayed. All the best!
The only way MM is going to get us to the premiership is in his dreams.
Unable to deliver, I think his role has been snatched back off him from Morgan, he is now just a puppet front man.
All decisions coming from Morgan, won’t be long before both MM and Moxey are gone.
superb!!! cheers edwards, who knows you may convince mick otherwise like craddock did. way better than collins in my eyes
wish edwards was stopping
how collins is i dont know get it sorted mick!
good luck rob thanks!
x
GOOD LUCK ROB WHEREVER YOU GO, NO COMPLAINTS WITH YOU SON, AND I’M SURE YOU’LL GO ON TO GOOD THINGS ELSE WHERE.
I SURE HOPE YOUR RIGHT ABOUT MCARTHY THO’ MATE..BUT ONLY TIME WILL TELL I SUPPOSE.
Good luck Rob, shame to see you go.
Edwards is 10 times better than collins, come on mick stop letting your heart rule your head.
Cheers Rob and thanks for all you’ve done at the club. Hope you go on to have a long and successful career. All the best.
Really surprised about this. Not really sure why.
Good luck wherever you end up.
This is the sort of response we should be getting from all our players. Top bloke.
Edwards still has potential and will probably move to another good Championship team. Injury free he could do well. But we’re aiming higher. I think Mick is looking at bringing in two quality defenders capable of playing well in the Premiership.
Using the logic of Mad Mick (release Edwards but keep Collins) can we expect the next announcement to be keep Bothroyd and release Ebanks-Blake?
Fair play to the lad, he’s attitude is spot on! What a refreshing change from all the prima donnas who are earning obscene amounts and still want the shirt off the clubs back. With an attitude like this the guy will surely cut out a decent if only modest career for himself - good luck from an albion supporter!!
Good pro shame to see him leave but sometimes you just have to move on.
Good luck Rob and thanks.
hope a good defender is coming in for next year and another striker :p good one please not a kyle ! I will stand up for keogh his effort is 100% he has made a lot of goals. I still think he is a super-sub player and we need another impact striker along SEB. We also need another winger to back up kites and Jarvis, I think maybe Gleeson and gobern could do this is fit. Would of liked to see rosa be given a chance but hey
I’ve spoken to Rob a couple of times and he’s a smashing bloke. Our defence was at it’s best when he was in it.
Best of luck in the future!
Cheers Rob and good luck in finding another club, you deserve one.Anybody know If Mulgrew is staying ?
wolves fans never stop winging …..
i’m gettin a headache……
any chance of gettin behind the team?
2. hope you are right,i think we are to late to get incey
2. i hope your right i think it will be to late to get incey.
Good pro cant understand how Collins gets the nod over Rob but best of luck for future
Thanks, Rob. Superb pro - v. unlucky with injuries. Excellent pair with Collins last year, but perhaps not big enough for Prem CH, and not quick enough for FB.
Good luck in finding a good club - you deserve it.
Shame you’re going.
I’d sign you on for another 3 years.
Collins is the weak link in our central defence.
Good Luck!!!
Good luck Rob.
Neill collins is woeful! He should go.
I’ll be Sorry not to see you next season!
The constant negativity is a real drag. Critics are generally losers anyway.Sod off!!!
Collins should be the one going, he just can`t play at this level
Good luck and I hope you return to Molineux with a different team, play a blinder and only lose 1 - 0. - all thanks to your play.
In regards to the ‘rent - a - mouth’ fans, it is clear you never let them get to you. You always worked hard and earned the respect of fans with an IQ greater than that of a fruit fly.
best wishes to you and your family.
NEVER SEEN HIM HAVE A GOOD GAME- WE NEED A BIT OF EXPERIENCE IN THE MOULD OF DARREN MOORE OR DARREN POWELL FROM SOUTHANTS TO BRING IN SOME BITE TO THE DEFENCE
2- Again a complete load of rubbish. Mick makes the decisions and Morgan is backing him. Just stop with the conspiracy theories.
Will be sad to see you leave, you’re a good defender, just unlucky with the injuries, would rather see N.Collins go than you, he’s useless (and that’s being kind), hope you stay injury free & have a good career.
21 absolutely right, Collins and Edwards with Murray behind was the tightest our defence has looked in the last twelve months, all stemming from the win at Norwich. Collins is a real confidence player and I don’t think has recovered from the first game of the season. Obviously not now Mick’s first choice. Darren Ward never settled and that together with Kites Jarvis and Muray injury is the story of the season. Big character needed at centre back now and soem luck with injuries.
Wolves need some good young players from lower leagues like we have done with jarvis and kightly : We need 3 defenders , 2 midfielders and 2 strikers !!

COME ON MICK .. THESE WOULD BE GREAT PLAYERS FOR WOLVES !!
good bloke .. but not good enough . wish him well . BUY WAGGY S BOOK .. ITS GREAT . it will take you right back to the last time that we were great. its also very funny . waggy deserves our support..
All the best Rob. You always gave your all for Wolves and for that reason you will always be popular with the gold and black army. You’ve had real bad luck with injuries which prevented you ever really cementing a place in the side. I hope wherever you go next you will be able to show what you can do. Look forward to clapping you when you return to Molinuex some day.
E11.. GO SUPPORT LEYTON ORIENT YOU DUMMY..WE CERTAINLY DON’T NEED ANYMORE NO BRAIN COCKNEY DIVS AT MOLINEUX.
BET YOU CRIED YOUR EYES OUT WHEN HODDLE LEFT!!
I would like to have seen him stay- a good pro who was unlucky with injuries. Good luck to him for the rest of his career.
RF- your comments about Olofinjana made me laugh (in disbelief!!!!!) now you’re saying Rob Edwards NEVER had a good game. You must spend every game just moaning with your mates rather any watching. By the way, your comments are so ridiculous, you don’t need to write in capitals to reinforce them!
Proud to be a Wolves fan
i saw mad mick the other night and i asked him what went wrong? he said he wasn’t sure, he did all he could but thats just football, he said we watched videos of west brom playing and said in five years we want to be at that standard, then i said really? he replied better make it 10.
that ones for southplank
Hennesey and SEB next to go…wolves looking for a big payday..
Thanks Rob !! A good pro who in all honesty wasnt quite good enough to command a regular spot in the side. That said - if this is true of Rob its certainly true of Collins from what regular vistors to Molineux say. I used to go a lot more when Rob first came to Wolves and wasnt convinced. I went once to Wolves last season and only Eastwood, Jarvis, Edwards, Hennessy and SEB looked anywhere near good enough (Kights wasnt playing). Even then 2 of them came on as sub !! Right now though - we do have what I would call a “Class Basis” - if we can add more quality for next season - we could start the move onwards and upwards. We will need 6 at least tho !! Come on Wolves !!
Collins is not useless.
He is not Alan Hansen at his peak, but he is not useless. A scorer of important goals too.
The best central defensive partnership of the last two years was Edwards and Collins last season when Breen and Craddock were out injured.
Leave off the guy!
good luck Rob.. cant believe he keeping collins on…too many mistakes!!
good luck rob,MAD MICK to get roger johnson and glen loovens from cardiff..
Good luck Rob, good work ethic and a real pro. Sorry to see you go.
i dont know why he is leaving he is a good player that will make the bench in my team.. but i agree on the other players that should leave even freddy eastwood.
How refreshing to hear those kind of sentiments from a player who has just been transfer-listed. Makes you wonder if Rob should not be staying. A player with his attitude, belief and respect for the club and manager is an asset, and would do nothing but good to have around.
The only one of the players released that I thought was worth keeping (other than Freddy). If he could stay injury free he is good enough at this level.
Why Mick has let him go and kept Collins is beyond me.
HAHA EDWARDS U FINK U COULD OF BEEN BY EUS IF U HAD WON THOSE FOUR GAMES CUZ AT THE END OF THE DAY I COULD NAME TEN GAMES WE EASILY COULD OF WON BT WE DROPPED POINTS DAY WE
I’d keep him ahead of Collins.
top guy, top player, top pro, and a midlands lad, but not irish or played for sunderland!!
If only some of the dross that pulled that gold shirt were as proud & as courageous as you Rob -we would’nt be in the Championship for another term.
GOOD LUCK MATE.
he will take you to the title talk is cheap we keep hearing how tetermined the player are to bring sucsess but all we get is crap football muppet mick will be out by october 2009 and there goes another failed season wolves will probley lose the first 4 or 5 games and the muppet will say he doesnt look the league untill december priceless
I think that speaks volumes of the boss, all the very best in the future Rob
Good luck m8. I would have put NC behind you though. As for going up. we need at least 6 quality players. Ledley would do for me from Cardiff. FC from Manu as another striker just for starters..
what an example, Robbo you’re a great pro, best of luck in your career. Pity you could not have the chance to grow with our team
Name a better man for the job?
Paul Ince
ALL THE BEST ROB,NOW U WERE ONE WHO PUT A “SHIFT IN”BAD LUCK WITH INJURIES THO THIS SEASON,ALWAYS CAME OVER TO GIVE THE SUPPORTERS AN APPLAUSE AFTER EACH GAME,BUT COLLINS MUST DO MAD MICK SOME FAVORS WHICH OBVIOUSLY U DONT.GOOD LUCK.
All the best Rob, a real pro and a great servant to wolves over the years, just a shame to see you and not collins on the list!
