A student posing as a police officer telephoned the schoolgirl daughter of an Aldridge businessman and told her her mother had been killed in an accident, a court heard.
Asif Mohammed also told the hysterical girl that her father was seriously injured and threatened to blow up the family’s home during his two-day campaign against them.
Mohammed, aged 18, pleaded guilty to one charge of sending a false message by public electronic communication to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety.
He also pleaded guilty to three charges of sending by public communication network an offensive/indecent or menacing message. The charges relate to four phone calls made on April 6 and 7. The family cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Mr Jason Corden-Bowen, prosecuting at Walsall Magistrates Court, said Mohammed had spotted an advertisement on a flyer for a newly set up business run by the father of the family.
He gave the number a call and spoke to the businessman’s daughter, before making the other calls.
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports. Mohammed was warned he could be sent to prison. He was given unconditional bail.
