Mowbray eyes loan signings

wd2764087albion-28-dh-8.jpgAlbion may raid top Premier League clubs for loan signings as boss Tony Mowbray builds his squad for the return to the top flight.

Mowbray is considering the option of loans in a bid to land high-value players without forking out a transfer fee. But he has warned that the Baggies must not waste either of their two permitted internal loan transfers by jumping the gun and signing the wrong player.

“I think you’ve got to look at them but you are only allowed two internal loans in the Premier League,” said Mowbray.

“Once you have used your two you don’t get any more all season so if we’re going to loan from the Premier League we’ve got to make sure we get them right and not bring squad players in but bring players who you hope will make an impact on your team.”

Mowbray will take inspiration for any loan moves from other Premier League clubs who have used the internal loan market effectively in recent years.

Two of the Baggies’ local rivals, Villa and Birmingham, have been among the clubs making the most of the system.

Villa have had Scott Carson from Liverpool this season and Blues recruited a trio of talented youngsters from Arsenal last season to boost their successful promotion campaign.

Mowbray is looking at the big four for potential targets but he insists he will not restrict his search to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

He said: “We are looking at the top four but we are looking at every team.

“If the right ones aren’t available we won’t be using them.

“We’re not going to use two loans for the sake of using two loans.

“If people aren’t available in the summer they might be available in January and we have got to remember that.

“It is cost-effective as well because you might be getting a player who is worth £5m or £10m just for his salary and if you can do that for a year you take the hit on what it costs you to pay him because there is no long-term outlay.

“We need to look at that and hopefully use it well,” added Mowbray.

    this bloke is just brilliant…

always talks sense….and if we get two players on loan who are good and hungry to play, maybe we can have them with a view to a perm deal….

    1. Phil, why have a go at Peace?, Don’t you think it’s sensible to use the loan system to try and get in two rising stars from bigger clubs and blood them?. I only see this as a win win situation for the player and our club. We don’t have the gamble on the money and the player gets valuble first team experiance. The article doesn’t say we arn’t going to spend any money is say’s that we are going to use the loan system. I can’t see your point really? The club has been built on a sound financial footing and we are one of the strongest financially stable clubs without a sugar daddy. Maybe Peace deserves a little bit of credit rather than historical barracking because he put the clubs financial future before gambling on Premier league. After all we have one of the brighest young English managers in the game who plays the type of football we all want to see and we have plenty of money in the bank to support that. What do you expect? I think our club is in very safe hands personally.

i have to say you really didnt make any valid point there, Peace has all my backing. Great chairman.

I’m loving the possibility of raiding the big boys surplus players and would love to see Kusczak and Richardson return to the fold.

What about Stearman, the young centre back from Leicester. He was voted their player of the year and could be a good investment for the baggies now the foxes have took the drop.

Tight Wad chairman again, give the Gaffer some of the £65,000,000 we have coming in,all the good work by ToMo and the Team and then tight fist says get some loan sigings in,same old story.

10.. Richardson is just a mercenry faithful to whoever offers him the best money.

I dont blame Kusczak for leaving after all he did go to probably the biggest club in the world but richardson left after we resurected his career.

7.. As far as I am aware the Moore “loan” is a done deal permanant very similar to the way Davies was loaned to Vile.

I am sure who ever TM loans or signs will be for the benefit of the team and not just to please us sometimes fickle fans

numbers 8 10 well see what your saying towards the start of season when ebenezer comes out with is normal statements and we are waiting for last minute deals

I`m not sure what our chairman has to do to convince people that he has the best interests at heart for the Baggies,
there is a saying, “you cannot please all of the people all of the time”

There should be another one………you cannot
please some of the people at any time.

JP`s record over the last 12 months has been exemplary,
securing over inflated fees for over inflated egos,
backing the manager to the tune of £14m,
not Chelsea standards, but far more than any other club in our division.

Now this, loans, what is wrong with loans ?
and where does it say anywhere that we will not spend,
and finally this article quotes Mowbray, not Jeremy Peace.

It sounds good financial practise to me. If you have 20 million to spend, then the interest would pay the wages of a load of freebie signings. I think Tony has a good head on him, I would do exactly the same. Pity I did not think of it before I got married ! I made her a permanent signing, when it might have been better to have some loan signings ?
I think Tony’s full name must be Tony Midas Mowbray as everything he does/touches turns to gold at the moment. Love the big smiles I keep seeing on the Baggies faithfull.

we really will see mate becuase i have full trust in JP and TM to do what is right. I have no doubt we will do some shrewd business in the window and i’m anticipating it with excitment, lets just have some faith and not turn this into a witch hunt, its not like his pocketing the £65 million is it??
and plus we don’t get £65mil straight away, everyone know’s this, it is spread over 2 seasons.

    13. Baggie boy

you may be right but he hasnt ever had a club tosettle at has he? maybe his just looking for that place, we werent exactly in as great a footballing shape at that point in time were we…
maybe we could bring him around to the Baggie way! he would fit into TM’s style superbly

  18. KelBaggies said:

Yet again Mowbray showing what a remarkable man he really is!
I’m sure Peace will give him all the money he needs to get a few additions to the squad, it’s not like we need a whole new squad, just a Goalkeeper, but we haven’t seen Danek yet, and also a couple of Defenders.

  19. S*U*P*E*R said:

I hear Darren Gibson is available

  20. The Real Bully said:

Anyone else pick up that in today’s transfer page Villa, Fulham and Newcastle linked with Gera. This has hit me like a bolt from the blue.

  21. Slap a Dingle said:

What you on about Darren Gibson! We dont want wolves players. I think we should get Younes Kaboul and Lewin Nyatanga. We will have a solid defence then.
