Drivers are to be banned from parking the length of Brierley Hill High Street and dozens of other key roads under ambitious plans to unclog the town’s congested streets.
The raft of new measures has been designed to help ease the flow of heavy traffic around Brierley Hill and Brockmoor, regularly lined with parked cars.
Businesses and residents have now been given until the end of the month to comment on the scheme.
The proposal outlines roads to be made one-way and those to be made no waiting zones at any time.
It includes busy sections of Brierley Hill High Street, Brockmoor High Street, Bank Street, Waterfront Way and Bell Street as well as dozens of other routes.
The measures will be enforced by Dudley Council’s new team of parking attendants who are to take over responsibility from police for on-street parking this summer.
Peter Van Geersdale, of Dudley Council’s highways department, said: “There are few schemes as big as this one, it covers the whole of Brierley Hill and Brockmoor.” He added: “It will make the traffic flow at its optimum while making it more pleasant for shoppers and people around there.”
