Midfielder David Edwards admits the sight of seeing Albion and Stoke’s promotion celebrations have inspired him to make sure Wolves join them next season.
For Edwards, disappointment at missing out on the play-offs was compounded by not being able to affect matters on the pitch. The Welsh international could have played in Sunday’s curtain call against Plymouth at a push, but was still regaining fitness after a knee injury.
And, as he watched the champagne corks popping at Loftus Road, where arch rivals Albion clinched their first title for 88 years, and the Britannia Stadium, where Stoke sealed their return to the top flight for the first time in 24 years, he admitted it was a humbling feeling.
“I was watching the game on Sunday from one of the boxes and we had Sky on at the back to see what all the scores were,” said Edwards.
“We saw the scenes at QPR and the Britannia and how much they were celebrating - it meant a lot to both teams as it would to us.
“Of course it’s something Wolves fans want to see as well, having gone up to the Premier League a few years ago.
“But since then it’s been maybe in the play-offs, maybe not, and we haven’t really been kicking on at the top of the league even though we’re definitely a big enough club to be able to do it. It was heartbreaking to miss out on the play-offs and the chance to get to the Premier League because everyone wants to be there.”
Edwards, who is set to face Wolves team-mate Michael Kightly in a Wales v England friendly at under-21 level at Wrexham next Thursday, believes Wolves have the backbone of a promotion-winning team.
“I’m sure the chairman is going to help the manager with new players and the manager knows what he’s got and what he wants,” he said.
“I’m sure a few more will be added but we’ve definitely got a good enough nucleus to the squad to gain promotion. Hopefully with a few fresh faces in the summer it will liven things up.”

IF. they stay up you mean…
all this talks so cheap. we’ve had it all season. actions speak louder than words.
seeing Albion and Stoke’s promotion celebrations have inspired him to make sure Wolves join them next season.
we will join em but not in the prem it will be in the championship after they get relegated
How do you think the fans feel? even our own players rubbing our noses in it thanks i’ll have a nice break thinking about what you’ve said.
Number 2…
Totally agree, enough is enough.
When I was a kid I said I was going to play for Wolves, I didn’t because I wasn’t good enough…. I think it’s time for the majorty of the Woles squad to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves the same question!!!
We want people who deliver on their promises not people who talk the talk and then say “NEXT YEAR WE WILL WIN PROMOTION”
WE HAVE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE FROM BETTER PLAYERS THAN YOU BUNCH!!!
We must go out and sign, ditch some and use the kids. We can go up as Champions but not with the poor management of this season.
Here is my first choice side and their reserve in brackets :-
Murray (Hennessey) Jarvis (Gleeson)
Foley (Little) Ebanks-Blake (Elliot)
Craddock (Ward) Keogh (Ward)
Lee Collins (Edwards)
Elokobi (Jones)
Kightly (Gobern)
Davies (Henry)
Edwards (Olifinjana)
Bitter and envious. Even the player’s are admitting to it.
CHAMPIONS! CHAMPIONS!
We need at least another 6 or 7 quality players to get us up next season and i still think we would fail under our current manager as he would leave half of them on the bench!!!!!!!!!

tut tut envy gets you no where .. love the headline baggies show dingles how its done
Lets look at the facts.
Albion have gained promotion, by good management from the director and the manager/s over the last 6/7 years no one has came and given them millions of pounds paid off debts etc, they have sold good players at the right price and invested the monies back into the club intrastucture and on good unknown players and unfortuantly for me have proved that they are a well run club on and off the field. Even the situation with the organised celebrations not going ahead does not make any difference as they are champions and made the semi finals of the fa cup.
Now my team and it upsets me to say it but….
we have been bailed out by Sir Jack we now have a millionare chairman, we have a wonderful ground and training facilties plenty of money to spend on players, I believe that we only pay a very small amount of council tax on our ground thanks to wolverhampton cc,our gates are above the boggies, we are a bigger club ( or are we)so WHY !!!!
have we failed to reach the play offs and failed over recent years to be were we should be the PREMIERSHIP it really gets me mad can anyone tell me WHY my beloved club WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS FC ARE STIL IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN BOLTON, WIGAN, BOGGIES,READING,ETC ARE IN THE PREMIERSHIP AND WE ARE NOT!!!!!!!!!!
answers please
Wolves born and bred
its nice that they envy us so much, maybe its them players posting on our site asking for an open top bus tour, just so they can see what its like, boing boing
Dont you lot ever stop going on about us getting relegated? Why not just accept that we got promoted as champions and just concentrate on your own teams successes instead of having our potential failures as the only successes you have?
You celebrated when we went out of the fa cup, the irony that we had got to the semis, way further than you had.You are going on about us getting relegated next season, conveniently skimming over the fact that we went up as champions this season while your lot didnt even make the playoffs.
Honestly. It is getting to be embarrassing!Follow your own club instead of watching us with envy.
PS,
Mowbray manager of the month for April…
GUESS WHO WAS MANAGER OF THE MONTH FOR DIVISION 2?
How can we join them next season? They will be in a different division. And if he means the season after next season, what if they come down, (as is quite likely)does he mean staying in the CCC?
If brains were dynamite………..
Wolves are nailed on for promotion next season, if we can just get Stephen Carr and maybe persuade Teddy Sheringham to come out of retirement, would also like to see Darren Anderton back, done superbly at Bournemouth
Most of us are over it, why dont the players get over it. Less talk! More action!
Wolves are nailed on to win promotion next season, if we can just get Stephen Carr and persuade Terry Sheringham to come out of retirement, would also love to see Darren Anderton back- done superbly at Bournemouth, never been the same since he left
i think wolves will unfortunately stick with mm… then they will regret not luring paul ince who i recon QPR will snap up an he will get them higher in the league than mccarthy will get wolves…lets wait and see
Under tyhe current idiot managing Wolves if we had 11 brazilians he would ensure tha we didn’t get promoted. The man is a complete waste of space. Get rid now and give the new man a chance to start next season with some common sense, otherwise we will have 3 months of mentalism from McCarthy before Morgan realises that gates of 12-15K will not look good in a 40K stadium. Mental Mick out now!
sedgley u dont no wat u am on about wasnt it u a few weeks back sayin this team is good and mick is good and we will make playoffs, yeh right
when are you dingles gonna get over yourselves, we got promoted cause we were the better team, so deal with it, move on and just get use to being the s… of the midlands. LOSERS
Tesco have a new range of stock cubes as well as chicken and beef they now do dingles cubes which we all now is LAUGHING STOCK,BOING BOING.
Aren’t you Wolves fans bitter..’if Albion stay up’..cheers lads, at least you got the top scorer eh (oh no, he scored half of em for Plymouth Argyle..now, who’s being petty..
CHAMPIONS…
I’m Wolves through & through but I’ve simply had enough.
I’m tired of numerous Wolves players, & I use the term lightly in some cases, coming on the E&S & spouting all this drivel. Its as bad as the majority of the football I & thousands like me, especially fellow season ticket holders, have had to endure this season. Very few of these players have made much if any effort all season long & then they have the audacity to treat us fans like second class idiots, and to coin a phrase used by MM, nuggets.
Since Sunday we’ve had Breen at least twice, Foley, Edwards, Henry and added to them, the three M’s as I call them talking rubbish. Every one of them has made excuses for last season and come out with some complete tosh about how next season will be better, we’re all disappointed, and we’ll be champions and get promoted….please.
I know there are lots of season ticket holders who did not take advantage of the early bird offer and who have no intention of re-newing at all, and I’m one of them because right now I feel very let down by the football club I love and have supported all my life, and before anybody says I’m not a “real” fan, what ever one of those is, I’ve been watching Wolves at Molineux and away for 30 years.
I don’t see Wolves doing anything different next season, but I sincerely hope the club proves me wrong & if they do then I’ll be the first to accept I was wrong. I’m glad we didn’t make the playoffs because I would have hated to see us “do a Derby”.
Having said that I’ll still be supporting them from a far as I’m leaving Wolves due to work and will always be proud to be a Wolves fan. Its just a shame the club, the players and the people who run it don’t feel the same way about the fans.
Get used to the pain, as you will get alot more with Mick McCarthy as manager. He has only said it to get fans on his side. If I played for a team I would try my hardest to get my team promoted and not make half hearted comments after the event. Do it for Wolves and your team mates and stop using WBA as a popularity tool !
can anyone come up with any criteria why MM should stay in a job ?
Yes to hell with the play offs, nothing less than top two next season is going to be acceptable. I live in Stoke but have been a Wolves fan since 1978-79 season and it galls me that Stoke fans think their team ‘deserves’to be in the top flight when the only ‘major’ competition they have ever won has been the Sentinel Cup!!!
QPR champions next season ,Blues/Reading/Fulham runners up - how do you propose to gain promotion?
is this the same muppet who came out 2weeks ago and said watch us get in the playoffs
Albion fans, make the most of it. It won’t last. Your non celebration shows the ambition of your club. Oh, and the reduction of the capacity of your stadium as you go up. 1 step forward, 2 steps back baggies. I hear Pace’s car has more reverse gears than forwards!
THANK GOD!!!!!!!! I’VE FINALLY FOUND SOME HONEST, REALISTIC WOLVES FANS. SEEMS LIKE THE MOXEY, MCARTHY SPIN MACHINE HAS SCRAMBLED THE BRAINS OF OUR SO CALLED LOYAL SUPPORTERS.
LMAO ON MOST THREADS TODAY..THEY’RE ALL SUPER MICK AGAIN AND WE’RE GONNA GO UP AS CHAMPIONS.
AARRRGGGHHHH GET A GRIP..NOTHINGS GONNA CHANGE AND WE’RE NOT GOING TO GET PROMOTED!.
You think that we are going up next season? let me tell you exactly what will happen, after MM has got rid of Freddy he has just set himself up for a barage of pure abuse from the kick off and i cant say he doesn’t deserve it.
I used to like the bloke but his stubborn attitude and total lack of being touch with us supporters is beyond belief. Getting rid of Freddy (a decent player in my book) is not that bigger deal but it becomes massive when you dont get rid of people like:
S WARD, S ELLIOTT, N COLLINS, KEVIN KYLE, D POTTER, D GIBSON.
I cannot believe his comments saying “he has not done well enough at times” when he was you dropped him. THEN WHEN DID YOU GIVE HIM ANOTHER CRACK? you just dont like the chap end of.
He hated the way supporters acted against elliot, collins etc (which i dont condone at all) but it was then obvious you hated us fans, so every opportunity he had he had a sly dig, radio interviews, not doing lap of honour etc.
Bottom line:
from kick off next yr all the haters will be on your back, which adds to pressure on team to succed, which results in being booed at every substitution, draw or bad result at home.
SO JUST LEAVE BECAUSE WE NO LONGER ENJOY OUR FOOTBALL AT THE MOLINEUX YOU MUPPET!
You lot make me laugh. If you want the reasons for your failure yet again have a look at how our two clubs have been run both on and off the pitch.
Our chairman talks about giving the manager the platform for building success and yours goes on the pitch after the last game spouting on about how bad everone feels. Our manager talks about attacking expansive football yours talks about everyone putting in a shift! I would suggest that the way the baggies have gone about building the club over the last few years getting stronger and stronger each year is now the benchmark for many clubs. You can’t expect success overnight! Do you think it is a coincidence that the most successful clubs in the country have one thing in common? The longest serving managers in the country Fergie & wenger
MM has not become a bad manager overnight he needs time to get things right but most of you lot on here will no doubt hound another good manager out of the game……Rant over!
How often have we heard this before from a host of Wolves players who talk a good game off the pitch but can’t do the business on it!
We didn’t go up because we weren’t good enough. We need a good clear out of the old and mediocre players and once again start from scratch.
Rather than adding sticking plaster to the problem,we need to do this properly if the club is really serious about getting into the Premier League.
If the Owner and Manager know who they want why did’nt they get them this year then mabey we would have been up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haven’t you lot got your own forums?
Go and discuss who your manager will be when Mowbray goes to Celtic.
2 poshside - I agree. The players would be well advised to keep their mouths shut. Do the talking on the field and if this time next year we are promoted then they will have something worthwhile to talk about.
Must agree with some of the Boggie comments about “petty comments” from Wolves fans - If we had been promoted blah blah we’d gloat juts as much - But there again, Boggie fans would be doing the same baiting etc so Who cares?
NB* Message to ALL Wolves players - STOP coming out with such futile meaningless clap trap - Its not going to help you or the club and certainly wont change anyones mind about buying a season ticket - the time for action has passed you by and the season for us is over - try and do your “talking” out on the pitch instead of in the media! Maybe, next time Moxey asks you - juts tell him the fans aint interested in “hot air”
Oh for sweet it is to hear you lot suffer!!!! Boing Boing
Look you lot, stop tearing yourselves and your club to bits! The old saying, ‘Money doesn’t buy happiness, only a better form of misery’ applies here. Goldy-Wolf No.10 gets it spot on, but what also matters to you lot is WE WERE ENTERTAINED for a whole season with goals, goals, goals! (and a lot of them finished up in our net). But we couldn’t wait to get back up there for the next match. Your fear is Mick just isn’t capable of that and you dread being BORED INTO PROMOTION. WE had two goes like that with Meggo but we did need him at the time because we were going downhill and fast. Football should be exciting, you ain’t getting that, we are, it sticks in your throat and you’re angry. OK. So tell the bloody management! Don’t shred the club and the players. Wolves is for your kids as well as you!!!
This is as bad as the year when over took us to pip us for second spot and we had to settle for a playoff place and blew that because we were shell shocked. Be nice to see us both in the big league to show the premiership folk a proper match/derby, saying that just seen a pig fly past window, must be dreaming. Still fingers crossed
i see incey is going to QPR whats the bettin he teks freddie with him, then your troubles will be over, you can all become QPR fans at least you,l stand a chance of winning summet BOING BOING UP THE RANGERS
You lot need more quality players in the mould
of S Ward, Collins and Potter, then you will get out of CC and go into the Div 1, with your Rivals
Walsall.
If i was a wolves fan i would find it frustrating our players talking about the other promoted teams, one of which being your biggest rivals rather than there own frailties and how they are going to improve next year and want to win it for themselves and the fans rather than to “replicate stoke and albion”
42CHRIS,yes mate your dreaming,BOING BOING THERE GOES ANOTHER PIG
You have to give credit for Sandwell have done. The missed out last year and moved on and did it this year.
What have we done? We are in no better shape than last year. We still don’t score goals. Add to that MM bizarre team selections.
I am already fed up of hearing meaningless statements from players board etc. The only way to rectify this is learning lessons and being a better team.
As for Sandwell and Stoke - I wouldn’t get too carried away. The next bit is the toughie.
How funny is it that Wolves fans seem uable to give us credit for what we have done thus far as a club un TM and JP. There only defence seems to be that we will be relegated next year. I have often wondered how Spurs fans and man City fans cope with the success of their local rivals. The Wolves fans have provided the answer……by pointing out their rivals faliures like not winning the European CL when they have just won the Prem. Grow up Dingles. By the way will you be better than Birmingham/Reading/Fulham/Derby/Sheff UTD/Hull/Bristol City/Watford next season. Not to mention bigger clubs like Notts F and Leeds who may may spend a few bob. Going to be a hard divsion next year is MM and the worst fans in the divsion up to it?

I’m sorry, but what????
Small minded…fickle fans…it is a dissapointing position to be in BUT…how is the negativity being created going to help wolves promtion push next year?Wolves are being proactive in the transfer market & continuity is a major factor…chopping and changing the gaffer everytime we don’t get promoted is not going to help the club at all. ‘Fans’ need to remember that it wasn’t so long ago that they were singing “Super Mick” …funny old game football…these same people acting like children now!Get behind the lads and the gaffer…Make The Golden Palace a fortress.
we shud go after anderton, sheringham and andy cole from sunderland. we shud also sign bobby charlton he’ll do a job, staying down the mcarthy way in style of course oh yes
