Bedroom musician given an Emmy

A Stourbridge musician has scooped an Emmy award for music he composed in his bedroom on a £100 guitar.

Mark Willott, aged 30, was flown out to New York to collect his award for outstanding achievement in composition for a series of promos he devised for the National Basketball Association play-offs on American TV network TNT.

The former Stourbridge College lecturer was stunned to learn he had beaten off competition from established artists to win the prestigious award.

Mr Willott composed the music on a homemade PC in his tiny bedroom at his Old Hill home using a £100 Fender Squire guitar his parents bought him 15 years ago.

The musician was contacted by TNT after they heard his music on iTunes.

But he had never met his employers in person before the ceremony in America.

Mr Willott used to play bass in Stourbridge band Jet Set Willy and continues to perform locally with new band Wireless.
