Albion in the hunt for midfield ace

Albion are keeping tabs on young international Radoslaw Majewski, according to reports in Poland today.

Polish Groclin Dyskobolia today denied stories that they are planning talks over selling the 21-year-old midfielder but they claimed there is interest from the Baggies.

Sporting director Tadeusz Fajfer said “We are aware that West Bromwich have looked at Radoslaw and are interested but as yet there have not been any discussions. Whether there will be is up to them.

“Suggestions that we are already in talks are a figment of someone’s imagination, but I cannot deny that there is interest.”

The midfielder has three Poland caps and has made the provisional 31-man squad for this summer’s European Championships.

And the Baggies have a good relationship with Groclin, having signed striker Bartosz Slusarski from the club last summer.

* Albion have begun revealing plans for their pre-season programme by announcing a friendly at League Two Shrewsbury.

Tony Mowbray’s men will travel to the New Meadow on July 22 (7.45pm).

I suppose I may have to take a look at Poland during the Euro 2008, just to get a little look at this gem TM may be picking up.

Dubbed the “Polish Fabregas” by the national media. Quite dimunutive, like a Teixeira or a Kim, but has masses of technical ability. Definitely one for the future.

Wednesbury - if we buy any more midgets they will change our music to Hi Ho when we come out the tunnel.

    Polish Fabregas sounds good though….

Just a suggestion, but we could do a lot worse than go for Ramage at centre half. Released on a free by Keegan. Fits all the criteria for ToMo - young, skilfull, eager to play.

It’s the way we’re going and great. Don’t want any has beens like so many clubs do when promoted. Mind you we’ll struggle to fit him in our greatest midfield song!!!

beings though berger is being given the boot at villa how about him? he could still do a job i think, i have always admired him too

5 & 7, I dont rate ramage a better player than clement and if he were that good why is he being released, and berger is past it and he does not have the fitness for our game ,thses types of signings could send us down -leave it to tomo he has not got it wrong so far ,i also hate going for rejects and has beens (we are not derby)

Who the hell is he, im all for promising young players but we need some established prem players now. No time to nuture players you can do it in the championship but we are with the big fish now, we need solid prem players.

7 boingboing666, I thought about Berger too. He’s still a decent player and could do a job for us. Sebastian Larsson if blues go down too, he’s a good player.

Don’t know anything about this polish lad the Mowbray is keen on. Sounds like he could be a good prospect though.

Whistling speech Mowbray has done a great job for you stripey lot. If he is given enough money he can keep you up. By my reckoning there should be 60mil available 18mil left over from transfers and 42mil from season 1.

    Get spending

I just hope I learn to spell and pronounce the name. Onwards and upwards the Baggies.

dont sign him.polish players are plain average

    7. Berger, yes, what a great club bloke he’s just shown himself to be at the Villa - NOT!

Another midfielder…I’m not convinced were focussing in the right department. Quality centre halfs and centre forwards have to be a priority.

    1. Larsson? Possibly. He’s got the talent but is he something we already have plenty of?

    7. Berger? Not for me. He’s past his best and I don’t think he would give 100% for the club.

Having watched how poor Barca were tonight, Henry and Gudjohnson might be looking for other clubs…!

I hope we start with a pair of centre backs. WE cant give so many goals away next season look at Derby!!!We will struggle and become a laughing stock.

    7. I think Berger may have seen better days now.

Think Shittu would be a good buy from Watford if they don’t go up. Also Sidwell from Reading is a decent player.

9# NOW TELL US SOMETHING WE DIDN’T KNOW.

    9. I’m sure few of us had heard of Teixeira, Koren, Bednar and even Barnett before they signed, and they turned out ok did they not?

Gera is another that was unknown.

We don’t want “names”, look where it’s got us in the past. Young, hungry, technically gifted players are what we need, not a name to put on the back of fans’ shirts.

  20. Lichfield Baggie said:

We dont need Berger lets get quaility centre halfs, midfield with flair a ball winner and prem players. Not other clubs has beens!!!!! Lets get it right this time end the yo yo effect.Establish and build for the furture.

MOWBRAY WILL NOT SIGN BERGER!! End of.

  23. AMS said:

Burger and Newcastle defensive rejects - no - those that have earned promotion are better than those that just want to earn.
This guy may be worth a look though.

  24. Happy_baggie said:

John Hartson has heard that we might be getting a six foot Berger and now wants to come back….

  25. frankthegas said:

Tony buy some one with grit and steel in midfield that was missing last season, In the premiership you need players that can play hard and fare

  26. odemon said:

how about wolves goaly wayne hennersey thats got to be a priority kylie is well past his best or smichael from man city

  27. Shropshirebaggie said:

Oooops, upset a few people haven’t I!! I take people’s point about needing defenders, we do let’s face it. However, there’s no harm in adding more depth to the squad.

It wouldn’t do any harm to sign players like Berger.
