Sixth form students at a Staffordshire school are happy in their own company – especially when it wins them an award for young entrepreneurs.
Shoot, a photography firm set up at King Edward VI School, Lichfield, was Company of the Year in this year’s Tamworth and Lichfield Young Enterprise event. Students will represent Lichfield and Tamworth in county finals next week after producing, marketing and sellling Lichfield calendars featuring city sights and special dates relevant to its history.
Students also organised a competition for St Chad’s and St Joseph’s Primary Schools to get youngsters interested in photography.
They won at the area’s finals evening at Drayton Manor. Fifteen teams from Lichfield and Tamworth schools as well as Tamworth and Lichfield College took part, giving formal presentations about experiences since setting up businesses under the Young Enterprise scheme last October.
Lesley Bovington, chairman of the Tamworth and Lichfield Young Enterprise board, said: “It’s been a highly successful year in the area this year, with 15 teams in both team and company programme competing at Drayton Manor.
“They had eight months to start their companies from scratch and get to this point. We are very proud of what they have achieved.
“As a business education charity, our work is fundamental to the future economic welfare of our communities and of our young people.”
Other prizes including the best company report and best customer service awards were won by Impact, of Queen Elizabeth Mercian School, Tamworth.
The best business plan went to TLC Creations from Tamworth and Lichfield College and the award for innovation went to Re-Invent, of Wilnecote High School, Tamworth, who recycled plastic bags into stylish handbags.
