Albion blog: Champions - oh yes!

Albion fans dressed as Kevin PhillipsAll season pundits, opposing players, opposing managers, and opposing fans have said we are the best team in the Championship, on Sunday we proved everybody right, writes blogger Jarrod Hill.

With the sun shining and the beer flowing Loftus Road was taken over by the super hero carnival, even the close next to the Springbok pub was amazingly called Batman Close (I kid you not).

The first half was instantly forgettable, and once QPR went down to 10 men the Albion took control of the game, Kim was introduced at half time and had a superb 45 minutes topped off by getting the first goal. Brunt’s wonderful free kick wrapped up the three points and the title with it, 88 years is a long time to wait to be called champions and the fans went berserk.

It has been a truly wonderful season and Sunday was the icing on a lovely big cake, while standing in amongst Danger Mouse, Superman, lots and lots of Batmen and Robins, The Incredibles, Wonder woman, and strangely a Craig David, the players team bus rolled by and their reaction said it all. Then Jeremy Peace walked by and the fans let him know that they expect some money to be spent during the summer.

It was a day I will never forget, although I cannot recall coming home, but other than that everything was superb.

I have taken plenty of photos and will include some of them on Fridays blog, including one of the notorious terrywalsallbaggie. A number of the regulars to these pages met up at the Vine on Friday, and it was great meeting them. Happy baggie and Terry are as funny in person as they are on here and wbaforever is the font of all WBA knowledge.

I awoke on Monday with a mixture of jubilation and sadness, if that is possible?

The fact we have won our first title for 88years meant I was sitting there with a warm feeling, and then the reality hit me that I do not have a game to go to until August.

Will the euphoria last until then, errm yep probably?

I was kept updated by text through out the game of results elsewhere and the last day of the season proved to be as exciting as all that had gone before it, this division has had its knockers this season but nobody can say it has not been entertaining.

Lastly I would like to thank the players, the manager, the chairman, and the fans for a fantastic season, see you all soon.

Champions, oh yes!

Nice one Bomber - glad you made it in today !!!!

Unfortunately I was one of the many who couldn’t get a ticket for sunday, but the pics I’ve seen look fantastic - well done to all the fans for giving the team a fantastic send off.

Really enjoyed friday in the Vine - it may become my new “local” and it was great to finally put a few faces to names.

With no Euro championship to look forward to its going to be a strange summer - but I will enjoy watching TM and Co build us up for next season.

    Goes without saying but…..

    LOVIN IT !!!!!

Morning HB, Terry, wbaforever, the rest of the crew. Just about made it out on Sunday, unfortunately half of my jacket has remained at Loftus Road, a story for another time!!!
Sunday was fan tastic, surpassed Reading (vikings) for entertainment value.

there will be alot less tickets for sale every week now the arm chair fans are buying them ,not to support us but to see the stars of other teams. shame really

congratulations boys on a job finished well. Hope you do well and stay up next season,im not one for jibes and sneers unlike some of our blockhead supporters!! and maybe, just maybe we might join you next year!!! well done

Jarrod, I have enjoyed reading your blogs all season and I send you and all my Baggie pals my congratulations on the title. It was heartbreaking to be so close but after 46 games you finish where you deserve to finish and I have no problem acknowledging that you were the best and we were the 7th best. Mr Morgan has made all the right noises about not needing the play-offs next season but we will have to wait to see if the deeds match the words. I hope you stay up and that this time next year we can join you for the first derby at the highest level for goodness knows how many years. It will be a very quiet summer with little interest in Slovenia and whoever but we will return in August, rested and optimistic and ready for the battle one more time. I wish you all a peaceful summer.

Look forward to seeing the pics. Sorry I missed Friday it would have been great to meet some of the people that I feel as if I know from on here. I’ll definitely try to make it to the Vine pre match next season, one thing, where is it?
Although there are no games for a while, I think the transfer market will be really interesting. It won’t be as prolific as last season and I don’t expect us to be spending the sort of money Villa/Spurs/Everton etc can afford but big spending doesn’t necessarily guarantee success.
Best wishes to ALL fellow posters on here, whoever you follow and whether you’re sensible/mad/windup merchant/stupid or even I suppose downright nasty. All part of life’s rich tapestry and the banter/memories/rumours, will help the long summer days pass until the season starts.

The vine is at the centre of the universe, or if you are going by car, go past the sportsman on your left, turn right a t roundabout by petrol, station,go to end of road. I will be still blogging over the summer, as and when really, i will be at the civic reception (once organised), did not get to see them lift the trophy Sunday, had to leave just after second goal, thanks to all those QPR fans who helped us get out of the ground!!!!

  9. Baggie Boy said:

8 .. Bomber it has just been on the radio that West Brom do not want a Civic Reception or open top bus tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What a season, what a finale…..CHAMPI0NS!!!

As you say Jarrod, we finished where we so rightly deserved and especially what Tony Mowbray deserved. Any knockers out there only needs to look at the table, after 46 long hard games as they say the league table never lie’s.

Jarrod thanks for your time in these blogs over the season, TerryCHAMPIONbaggie thanks for your humour, H_B thanks for your humourous but very true postings, WBAforever thanks for your incredible knowledge, and thanks to evryone that posts on here for whatever reason as the Real Bully posts above, it makes a good forum when evryone posts there opinions or downright mickey taking posts.

I look forward to reading over the next few months the rumour mill over comings and goings.

One final question, over this season many people have called TerryCHAMPIONbaggie thick and many other names, I’m damn sure Terry is not thick at all and comes here to enjoy his banter, so Terry question for you….

Can you finish this wonderfull season off by writing a summary of the season, in a totally serious way just to prove not only have we got the best football team in the Championship, oooh sorry HAD!!, but we also have the best Terry in the world :)

WE ARE CHAPIONS, SAY WE ARE CHAMPIONS

Congrats once again Jarrod. Enjoyed the banter all season and looking forward to next season writing about teams in different leagues.

All the best for the summer.

    Bomber

Are you a little more sober than when you rang me
    on Sunday ?

A perfect end to a near perfect season, i cannot help be feel the FA cup was a REAL possibility,
who knows defeat to Pompey may have aided our promotion cause, it`s just conjecture, but i think we could have secured both.

I would also like to pass on my thanks to all the contributors with whom we share a common affinity….football in general and the Baggies in particular.

Friday night at the Vine was great, meeting some of the regulars,
it`s something we must do again…and soon,
get on the case Bomber, and lets see more of you there, Tony,Bully, etc.

Happy was as mischievous as i expected him to be…..introducing himself at first as LCW,
the expression on the faces of Bomber and myself must have been a picture.

Tony…dont worry mate, Terry is a very intelligent bloke….and the biggest wind up merchant on earth.

Oh and finally, i am rather embarrassed by this
knowledge thing, i know about the Baggies, but then dont we all ?

Bomber… No mate but its official now that there will be no “official reception”. That may mean they might do something at the ground or something like that who knows!!!

A totally brilliant day on Sunday - one of the very best. Fair play and thanks to QPR fans for clapping in the team bus and again during the cup celebrations; nice one.

Looking forward to some excellent [young] signings this summer, the fixture list, the friendlies et Al and also to some relief from the tension of the past few weeks! LOL. Having been a Baggie for many years, I have come to expect the inevitable emotional roller coaster and this century thus far has been true to form. It has been nothing but brilliant and long may it continue, even if it means yoyo’ing - it’s fantastic and I wouldn’t swap it for the numerous mid-table, win a few, lose a few EPL teams like Blackburn, Villa, etc etc.

Great season, great club, great management and thanks to all concerned.

I wish the wolves had a dress up last away day, i like the concept, although we had nothing to celebrate this year. I have a superman outfit which I bought for one of the cricket test matches the other year which is just rotting in the corner!! I also have a mexican outfit from the cricket if that is your theme next season one of you can have it!
Anyway well done albion (i say through gritted teeth), and i look forward to putting a face to some of the names in Fridays blog!

    Nathan….hi mate

Albion fans have been “doing” the last away game
of the season for years………and let me tell
you, it wasn`t always for celebratory reasons !!

    Twerton park anyone ?
1000 Baggie fans dressed in togas, in the knowledge we had just been consigned to life in the third tier.

Go for it mate, it`s great fun regardless.

  28. NathanWolves said:

    Hi WBA Forever.
It’s always a good crack to dress up with your mates and watch the team you support! I might jump on the band wagon, if it does catch on I will be the first to admit we have copied it from you (please lets not start the liquidator debate etc ha ha)
As for the albion doing an open top tour bus thingy, my mate who is an albion fan said the reason there not doing it is because Albion say the players deserve a rest! I didn’t know sitting on a bus was that physically demanding!
Enjoy the prem anyway, i feel you might stay there a few seasons this time!

11,tonywba,well tony me n my trusted side kick daughter nicole have only missed 1 game this season(bristol city away) as per usual, after our quick return back to burnley ended in defeat then a 2nd away defeat at sheff utd i thought here we go again why cant we win on the road, then we broke scunthorpes long unbeaten home recored only to follow it up with 2 more away defeats after long journeys to southampton and colchester, but our home form was so convincing we where just battering teams out of site, along came november 3 tough away trips, watford won 3-0 coventry won 4-0 then came what i thought would be the toughest game of all plymouth, enter roman bedner, the rest is history,we went on to have some great away wins the injury time winner at sheff wed was priceless, our fantastic wins at hull, and at the moll, pity we couldent break our stoke hoodoo but we will in the prem,i could go on for hours but i think ive bored you enough, with our great fa cup its cost me an arm and a leg but it was well worth every penny and to meet and have a drink with lovely susan put the iceing on the cake so to sum the season up BLOODY FANTASTIC BOING BOING

    Hi Nathan

Yes mate, the decision not to do the traditional
and expected open top bus parade has, to put it mildly, caused a fair amount of disharmony amongst our fans.
I think the official statement from the club regarding the players being tired, is simply a smokescreen, and i`m guessing they`re already regretting issuing a statement to that effect.

My honest opinion as to why a parade has been
    rebuked, lies in recent history.
On the two previous promotions, we had all the fanfare of a public parade, and pleasant evenings they were too, but what followed ?
crushing relegation seasons, albeit the second time took two terms.

I have said before Mowbray is a man of modesty,
and i`m certain he views promotion as only a first step in a far bigger picture……..
i`m babbling away here……what i`m trying to say is,
at the moment the club see promotion as only a minor success, and see no reason to parade the players as all conquering gladiators simply for getting out of the second tier.

Phew….sorry for the war and peace length of this post.
