Captain Gary Breen believes Wolves’ young guns have to take their share of responsibility for the club’s failed play-off bid - as he admitted his future was up in the air.
Injury sidelined Michael Kightly for 27 League games while fellow winger Matt Jarvis missed the first four months of the season and Stephen Ward was out for much of the campaign.
Last season’s young prospects Mark Little and Daniel Jones haven’t played and Andy Keogh and Stephen Elliott have been targeted by the boo-boys.
“There have been times when some of our young players could have done a bit better,” said Breen. “You get that - it’s par for the course - but ultimately our supporters expect us to be challenging.
“I certainly see a positive future here, but talk is cheap. They’re good young players and there are going to be ups and downs but they need to fulfil their potential.”
Breen believes the seeds of Wolves’ failure to make the play-offs were sown in mid-winter.
“I don’t know if it was so much to do with yesterday,” he said. “It was where we didn’t win for eight games and paid the price. At this level you can’t go eight or nine games without winning.”
Breen is out of contract with fellow stopper Jody Craddock this summer and he remains tight-lipped on plans for next season.
“I’m just going to ‘wipe my mouth’ from yesterday and we’ll deal with it,” he said.
Owner-chairman Steve Morgan has ‘ringfenced’ Wayne Hennessey, Michael Kightly and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake away from potential Premier League suitors this summer. But Breen insists speculation is inevitable - and also earmarked left-back George Elokobi as a future top flight player.

Unbelievable. Gary just go and take Thick Mick with you.
breeeeeen
Youth in the team is only any good if it has clear potential. At Wolves too many do not!!!
And what about the creaky defence Breen?
You cannot categorise Keogh with Elliot. Keogh has raised eyebrows as he hit a slight form dip, whereas Elliot has shown us absolutely squat. Keep Keogh definately, get rid of Elliot.
Apart from that, it sounds about right!
Just one question Mr Breen, who did they have for Role Models?
The finger pointing has already started in the good ship Wanderers. If the senior pro is apportioning blame amongst his team mates then all cannot be well at the Custard Bowl.
This time last year the Dingle fans were vociferous about Kamara, Koumas, Mcshane and Davis as rats deserting a sinking ship. That ship has risen to it’s full glory whilst the mutiny is about to start at Molispew.
Bye bye Wanderers will we see your like again? The fragmentation of your squad starts here and now.
CHAMPIONS! CHAMPIONS!
thats it blame the kids, boing boing we going to miss you
YES AND THEY ALSO NEED TO BE PLAYING DUMMY..AIN’T MUCH THEY CAN DO FOR US WHEN THERE OUT AT STOCKPORT OR NORTHAMPTON IS THERE!!!!!!!
bye bye breen hope you find a club for next season..it was great while it lasted but your days are over now..as your position is one that definately needs a younger quicker player with quality.
ONE PAUL INCE..THERE’S ONLY ONE PAUL INCE.
did a big cheer go round the moll when you heard blackpool had a pen boing boing oh i do like to be beside the seaside,
what a great party we had celebrating well into the nite, cudent get up this morning boing boing
Garry Breen has been a good pro but his playing days are coming to an end.Why don’t we find players like thhis jobs within the club instead of booting out all the experience.Who would have thought Veno would get promotion with them lot?I’m sure he would rather be helping us.And the first thing MM did was to move Ince on when he could have at least found him a coaching role and worked TOGETHER.FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CLUB.Not just ego tripping.
It would of course help our younger players if some of our more experienced professionals did not give stupid and completely unnecessary free kicks away in the closing stages of important ganes!!!!
Good bye Gary.
Best Wishes
David
Mick out
Yo am the laughing stock again,Dingles
Yo am the laughing stock again Dingles
I have too second what 3 golden balls 54 said” its alright having youth but a good manager knows if they are going to make it in the big time or not but as yet we dont have that luxury do we.
If Breen hadn’t handed 2 points to Ipswich due to an error NONE of our UNDER 12’s would have been naive enough make, we’d be in the playoffs.
Toast.
terrytotalmongbaggie..go on son make the best of it..come next season it will be our turn to take the proverbial out of your defeats every weekend.
and believe me, i’ll be over your side with avengeance every time you loose.
DOING A DERBY THE MOWBRAY WAY..IN STYLE OF COURSE..OH YES.
breen sunday was the first time i thought you played any good you must have had several noise bleeds you brought the ball forward and over the half way line but the team as a whole need to look at them selves first and what they think of each other should be kept in the dressing room and you as the club captain should know better bye bye
terrywembleybaggie let’s see who’s amiling next year…..all the best tho.
U’ll do better than Derby LOL
1. Mick McCarthy may be many things, thick is not one of them.
If you have a construcyive criticism go ahead but pointless insults provide nothing.
Yeah and what about that stupid free kick you gave away right at the end against Ipswich?
Gutted that we missed out by 2 goals and I am sure that if Eastwood played the whole season, he would have got them 2 goals. I hope McCarthy was missing from the lap after the game because he was clearing his desk
Any team needs a balance of experience and youth, and with that experience comes leadership.
There has been a lack of leadership from MM and certainly a lack of leadership from the old uns.
If you BREEN realised the young guns were not doing their fair share, well maybe after the last game is not the best time to tell them, how about letting them know on the pitch week in week out.
To late to blame anyone now your all to blame.
Something like, STABLE, HORSE, BOLTED, springs to mind.
The only horse left to leave is MM or should we say donkey.
Stunning comments from Breen. Gary, if you hadn’t needlessly given a free kick away in the last minute of injury time against Ipswich we would be in the playoffs now. I’d look at yourself before having a go at the kids mate.
By the way, has anyone noticed how the A****n lot can’t stop posting on our bit? Promoted as champions and they’re still obsessed with us! Listen lads, especially Terry whatever, when we swap places, which we will, I won’t even give A****n a second thought, let alone keep posting messages to you. You support WBA-get over it!
Terrybaggie, why dont you crawl back to the slums of sandwell you little idiot!
What Breen says is spot on. No point buttering over their ages, they r in the 1st team and they need to deliver.
ALL IS NOT WELL AT WOLVES
MM OUT!
if only someone hadn’t given away that free kick against ipswich, we’d be in the play offs now. who was it again?!?!? get lost breen you’re slow and weak.
My god there really are some gibbons who post on here. Breen is a stabilising influence on the team. As Breen said, you can expect younger players to make some mistakes, but now they all have another season under their belts the mistakes should be fewer. Stop taking cheap shots at our players, manager, chairman.
Eastwood looked a class act when he came on. You cant help but think ‘what if’. Breen looked good also, bringing the ball out of defence effectively. A creative midfielder is all that misssed yesterday and if we had of got someone doing that role, 3-0 would of been acheived, especially if eastwood had of started. Can Mark Davies be that man next season? I hope so.
…. and I must add, i dont know what the hell is the problem with some wolves fans. The amount of people who were screaming ‘just get it up the pitch’ or ‘hooof it up’ was incredible. We played extremely good football at times but yes, as has been the case for a few seasons now, we miss that final bit of quality to get the strikers in. Every fan in the world wants their team to play attractive football which wolves do play the majority of the time. If there was a bit more pace to it, like the albion do and most premiership teams, we would be really onto something.
Yesterday, plymouth hardly got a look in. We dominated. How far away can we really be? My opinion, breen is too error prone, as is collins. Replace those two, get eastwood playing and choose a better combo for central midfield. Who would argue with that?
Two great goalies to choose from, elokobu and foley full backs, craddock with a pacey new centre back, kightly and jarvis wide, i would try davies and henry in the middle if davies is fit, with eastwood and ebanks blake up front.
tony 24 u might hav a look at our pages on day and u would c loads and loads of poisonous comments from u dingles. dont no how u got the cheek to say that ! as for all you green eyed nasty dingles we wont b commin bac down we will survive and flourish under tm. to all you reasonable wolves fans who hav wished us well i thank you and wish u all the best for next season
Well done Gary, you cost us against Ipswich in the last minute oh and weren’t you to blame for Southampton’s late equaliser? I seem to remember you costing us a couple against the Albion in the play offs last year too. So much for the experienced pro’s! Two new centre backs please. But hang on a minute, didn’t we ask for the same thing last summer….???? MM’s tactics have been so negative this season due to the fact that he has no confidence in his centre backs. That spell in the middle of the season when we effectively played three defensive midfielders and MM’s ‘best ever’ signing on the left wing cost us dear.
26,dingledan,if only somone had been marking gera,
boing boing if if if
If you look at the bigger picture,Wolves only missed out on the Play offs by 1 goal.
The 1 goal difference between a draw & a win.
Or the odd goal scored against Wolves in 1-0 defeats.
IF only you hadent been the only team in the championship that failed to score agenst us,boing boing if only
29kentwilf,if you look at the bigger picture you scored less goals than than any other club in the top 15 of the championship thats why your stopping in it boing boing
just when you wanted your star striker SEB to score a couple of goals he dont turn up,just like he daint agenst the mighty premier team albion boing boing
And because the article about the players bein 100% behind mccarthy cant be commented.. Il let my feeelings on that be nown on here with 1 word.. Freddy?
TERRYEEJITBOGGIE the last laugh will be on us have no worry about that you evil vile excuse for a human being I AM STILL HAPPY TO BE A WOLVES SUPPORTER NOTHING CAN TAKE THAT AWAY WOLVES FOREVER
the seasons over know lets look forward to next season,i would rather lose out now than in the playoff final ,go up as champions nextyear sounds a lot better doesnt it.
In a way Breen is right. With the money these young men are on they should be able to score from the car park of Asada, let alone from the pitch.
I’m from the school of thought that believes that if you’re good enough, then you’re old enough. The board, manager ,captain etc shouldn’t say what a young, vibrant, energetic team we’ve got if they’re then going to start blaming their age for them falling short this season.
Oh also, #18 don’t blame Breen for the Ipswich equaliser. He was’t the one in goal. He wasn’t the one who organised the wall to cover the right hand post, and he wasn’t the one that stood directly behind the wall giving the Ipswich attacker a free shot at an unguarded part of the goal. That was all Hennessey, and Hennessey is one of these youthful players that Breen is talking about who on occasion doesn’t perform as well as he can.
Don’t they have schools in West Bromwich. Baggie fans need to learn how to spell.
There is a big difference between ‘young and hungry’ & ‘young and hungry, with class’
The latter (aged 18-22) are all with the big boys.
The former is a pseudonym for cheap and neverwillbe.
In any sport, all the skills are developed up to the age of 21. After that age you are as good as you will ever be.
Most of our ‘young’ are over 22. They have already reached the peak of their powers. They are as good as they will ever be right now.
30sick of listening to you you little idiot wait till next season you will be quiet.
19,sba,and i shall be over your side too,you couldent make it this season so how you going to next season with your so called 3 star players missing,so its a good guess i,ll be on your side more than you,l be on ours, boing boing mekin the best of it
21,dan,i will amiling next year, wotever that means, boing boing if only
i could have taken what breen had said if he had aknowledged that he was also at fault, (ipswich to name but one). bet merlin the unbelievable is proud of his son. contract extension prob in the post as we speak.
i cant belive what i havw been reading on this site. Breen blaming the kids, Henry saying all the players are happy and 100%happy at that, then Henry blames the fans for cheering at Plymouth and thats why they never went for a bigger win. Then MM stating he has no regrets about the seasen. Why wont someone just come out and say we were just not good enough, we made mistakes ans we are sorry. Its not a lot to ask. I always said that clubs should not sack managers to quickly and i still believe a manager should be given 3 to 5 years but starting to have second thoughts now. Come on MM admit this seasen was a disaster and maybe you might get a little more respect from the fans
I can’t see what all the fuss is about. Many posts are responding to the mischievous Eand S headline, which is what they intended!
Breen is correct, there were times when the younger players could have done better, especially in front of goal.
now wot was you saying about your acedemy and bringing the kids through, boing boing IF ONLY
got nothing really sensible to say so i thought i would just like to say
i must get one of those fashion trend setting tony mowbray sleeveless tank tops for next season to wear when the baggies are relegated. lol. boing boing thats the noise of the baggies bouncing of the bottom of the premiership table. wolves 4 life. it’s were the heart is.
Breen’s legs have gone. Now too slow for the Championship.
Move him on with McCarthy.
Wolves Make Me Proud I Love Wolves For Life. I Love Going 2 The Games There Just The Best.
Don’t Worry Wolves You Will Do Brilliiant This Season Cumming And I Will Be There At Every Match Cheering And Singing. WANDERERS I LOVE YOUU XxX
This is shocking. I can’t believe he’s got the nerve to say it and the E and S shouldn’t print such tripe. Apart from the free kick against Ipswich, he was at fault for Southampton’s equaliser (and didn’t he have a disagreement with McCarthy afterwards about this) and if I remember correctly he gave away the free kick that Watford equalised from in the first match (but I could be wrong about that). However, the unforgivable one was gifting the ball to Phillips in the first leg of the play offs last year for the first goal. How dare he say other players could have done better. I said in another post that he was one of the players that needed replacing from yesterday’s team and this confirms it.
lets sign gary breen he is ace
mccarthy is better than mowbary i say keep him hell get you promoted and keep you up unlike mowbary who is rubbish. were just lucky to win.
He’s only come out saying this because he knows that his time is up and that he’ll be replaced by youth next season. We’ll get two quality quick CBs in and then we’ll have a proper team. Gary Breen didnt want promotion anyway because he knows he would get slaughtered in the prem even worse than albrechtsen and leon barnett!
i agree with breen to be honest
the youngster need to take some of the blame
i mean we keep hearing from moxey, mccarthy whoever about what young side we have and of such promise
palace have made it with young side
some of our younger players go out on the last several times a week, i know this for fact as i have seen them out!
they need to get there priorities right because if they dont take the next steps theyll turn out into the next
clarke, proudlock etc…
Mick out now!
Get rid of McCarthy now. Just a waste of our precious seasons before we get back into the top flight, where we can survive and prosper with a quality manager. It isn’t just a pipe-dream, it CAN happen.
WBA versus Watford 12/04/2008. We outplayed them the whole game but try as we might we couldn’t get that all important first goal. We conceded early on. Barnett got the equaliser and we managed to get a point. I remember thinking that it was 2 points dropped in a game that we should have won. It turned out that Watfords point kept you out of the playoffs.
God works in mysterious ways.
55, ive changed my name, boing boing
Breens contribution (or lack of it) since returning to the team for the run in is one of many reasons why we didn’t make it! MM out and Breen, Elliot, Kyle, Potter, Gibson, both Wards and Collins to follow him - that should free some room up on the payroll for some proper players!
tipical wba won’t even celebrate their promotion to prem with open top bus round sandwell town.like we say in the city ur just a bus stop in sandweLL !!!!!! wolves 4 life
roll on next seaon not only world champions, european champions but most importantly champions of the championship.mm out wolves 4 life
7) We won’t see you for quite a few years. Unless Albion sign half a dozen class players, you will be straight back down.
Wolves on the otherhand will spend and have some of the youngsters - do you have any of these Albion? - back and we will be going up and staying, where the 8th most successful club in the league, should be. The top league!
albion are going t get abosoultly punished for slack defending in the promised land, then lets see who boing boinging when the table looks like this
wolves 46 24 92
wba 38 56 -20
lets see whos boing boing in next seson when tables are compared
prem
23 wba 38 -56 9
championship
1 wolves 46 24 96
breen dishing out the feel-goods? the bloke completely lost touch with reality.
If only we’d put a defender on the post for that last minute free kick against Ipswich! Hindsight, as they say, is a wonderful thing.
Venus and Mowbray applied for the Wolves job before MM was appointed. They didn’t even receive a thanks for their application. Jez Moxey simply ignored it . . . makes you think what might have been
Only thing Wolves will be next year is the best black country club in the CHAMPIONSHIP.
Let me think how many black country clubs in the Championship mmmm 1.
Irish smurf, couldn’t understand either of your calculations, for a start there are only 20 teams in the premiership. However it finishes up we will have at least one season to find out while you will be wondering what if!
Comeee Onn Youu Wolvessss

I LOVE WOLVES
