Star Wolves striker: I’m staying

ebanksblake2.jpgStriker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has renewed his pledge to pursue his Premiership ambitions with Wolves - no matter what their fate in tomorrow’s Championship finale.

The 22-year-old is in the spotlight again as he faces former club Plymouth for the first time since his January switch to Molineux hoping a victory will be good enough to catapult Wolves into the top six.

If Wolves miss out, top-flight clubs will attempt to tear off the “Not for Sale” sign owner Steve Morgan has hung around the necks of his leading young players with some close-season offers and the Championship’s top scorer is a prime target.

But he insists he is ready to knuckle down for another season with Wolves. “Of course I want to play in the Premier League but I’m hoping we can do it as a team and I want to do it here with Wolves.

“We’ve got to hope we can win and results go our way tomorrow. But I don’t want to set any targets about when I get there. If we can be in the shake-up this season, that’s fine.

“If not, by this time next year we will want to have claimed an automatic place.”

Manager Mick McCarthy knows that if promotion eludes his team, there could be attempts to unsettle Ebanks-Blake, Wayne Hennessey and Michael Kightly - his three top assets - in the summer.

Despite Morgan’s firm “no sales” declaration, the contracts on offer with a move to the top flight can give the most committed Wolves players itchy feet.

Keeper Hennessey has been repeatedly scouted by Everton and Aston Villa, Blackburn and Reading are interested in Kightly while Ebanks-Blake is seen as this season’s David Nugent - the top Championship striker of the right age whose goal-knack make him an obvious target. Having left Manchester United to pursue his career, Ebanks-Blake adds: “Whether I’m ready for the Premier League remains to be seen - but I need to be in there to see how I can cope at that level.”

thank-god he’s staying! one of the only bright sparks from an extremely disappointing season. Never mind how far we’ve come since Mad Mick’s appointment… we didn’t spend around £7million pounds in July 2006 did we? A lot of the time, the football is dire, and I feel Morgan has to be bold and remove McCarthy before he ruins the football club.

“oh and before you go Mick… take Elliot, S.Ward, Keogh and Collins with you!”
