Albion blog: One last game

After the euphoria of Monday night and the celebrations that followed we find ourselves 90 minutes from being Champions, writes blogger Jarrod Hill

I hope QPR have a plentiful supply of beer (remember when Reading ran out of beer?) because the Mowbray blue and white party rolls into town on Sunday. I have been bubbling all week and I look forward to going to Loftus Road with no pressure on us, ok I know we are pushing for the title, but with our main objective of promotion assured, I feel relaxed and happy to just go and enjoy the day.

I also feel a little sadness at the thought of this season ending, no more games to go to until August, and the only thing to entertain us will be the transfer rumour mill.

Talking of which, everybody has started the endless debate over who we should be looking to sign, what positions we need to strengthen, and how much money we will have to spend.

Depending on the transfer funds available it will be interesting to see what Mowbray has planned? It is a huge advantage to be promoted automatically and not through the play offs, that extra time in getting geared up for the Premiership can make a real difference.

My personal view is that I would prefer us to invest in three or four quality additions rather than try to stretch the transfer kitty over lots of transfers. A proven Premiership striker is an absolute must, hard to find and usually expensive, but the sides who survive in the Premiership score goals. Whether Mowbray sees Luke Moore as that person is still unclear, but with teams being allowed seven substitutes next season we will still need greater numbers.

A common consensus among fans is that we require a goal keeper; it will be interesting to see if Mowbray gives Danek a start against QPR on Sunday, but his unrelenting support for Deano will probably see him see out the last game of the season.

As I have to sit in the home end on Sunday, I did not think it a good idea for me and my mate (Bucko) to turn up as Batman and Robin!!

It will be a fantastic day out and I look forward to what should be a carnival atmosphere, I am sure we will not be the only baggie fans sneaking into the home ends and my thoughts go back to Bradford away (Igor,Igor,Igor,Igor).

For all those coming to the Vine tonight I will be there from 6.30pm (no I am not an alcoholic, just going straight from work), I am looking forward to celebrating promotion and enjoying some footy chat (although I have a feeling it will be just me and Happy Baggie sinking ale and putting the football world to rights), I am easy to spot, 6ft tall, tattoos, and a very, very big smile.

For those who cannot make it tonight, see you at Loftus Road, just don’t shout over alright bomber/Jarrod while I am sitting in the home end, many thanks!!!

Come on you baggie boooooyyyyyyssssss, that title is just 90 minutes away!!!!!

Jarrod enjoy the QPR end, I done the same at Preston, sat down in there end, up until just before kickoff my row was empty other than me & my mate, then a swarf of people come bounding up the stairs, walked down and row and softly spoke “Are you Albion”, not knowing what to say I just nodded. so then I knew there were more Albion in the Preston end, because i had’nt just taken a lamping, later in the game we scored, obviously knowing there were a few Albion in the end I was still unsure on whether to cheer, but then the stand errupted the Albion had taken over, it was a fantastic feeling, I think you might be in the same surroundings tomorrow mate…..YOUR NOT ALONE!!!

I do offer my apologies for not being able to make it tonight, and I want to say thanks for your time in doing your blogs throughout the season as they have always given us some healthy debate.

Lets have a fantastic finish to the season by being crowned Champions

Hope you manage to pull off a good win on Sunday and take the championship - it’s what you’ve deserved and good luck next season. A couple of smart buys made by Mr Mowbray and I think you’ll have what it takes to stay in the premier.

    All the best !

Hi Jarrod - I will be there around 6.30 then.

I hope TM allows Deanno to play out the season on sunday - he doesn’t deserve to be dropped for the final game. Yes he has dropped a few clangers - but so has every keeper.

I think we will see Danek (or a new guy) and Deanno battle it out in pre season games ready for next season.

Going up is a bit like the last day of junior school. We have been the big boys this year, but next year we will be the little ones again.

We just need to make sure the big boys like Man Utd and Liverpool don’t show us the blue goldfish too often !!

However I am looking forward to “big school” and think we will settle in nicely.

If this makes any sense to you then you must have started drinking already.

    see ya later.

Also Happy Baggie is actually a female 23 year old leggy blonde who has the horn for E+S bloggers (no Nathan you cant come). Her dad owns a brewery and gets free tickets for all major sporting events.

What a season its been!! A united squad/club, an FA Cup semi final appearance, over 100 goals scored again, the best managament team seen at the Hawthorns for a long time and to top it all off PROMOTION !!!

I have full faith in ToMo to bring in the right players and agree with Jarrod in saying we need a proven top level striker but there arent many available, realistically Brian McBride would be the kind of player that would come but would he be a better option than what we have now.

    Enjoy your summer Baggies !!

    13. Bomber, on that basis my respect for Happy Baggie has just gone up 1000 fold !!!

Blue Goldfish, classic, i laughed so much all of my staff obviously know i am not working again!!!
Your junior school description is spot on, however my first day at big school involved a boy from the second year coming up to me and saying “so your the one who thinks hes dead hard ay ya”.
A bit like drawing Man Utd first game of the season???

  20. wbabomber said:

    Happy baggie

Shut up and get back in the kitchen, and ask your dad were my Champions League final tickets are!!

  21. wbabomber said:

Does anyone know if our shirt sponsor has been decided for next season??
And when our new strip is released??
Obviously the first question relates to the second, i always think the club make an error in not bringing out the new strip earlier.

Are QPR taking lessons of our Dingle friends? It sounds as though most of the home end will be occupied by us Baggies come Sunday and that reminds me of a glorious day out we had in the FA Cup last year. This time the seats wont be a nasty orange/brownish color though. However they looked rather dashing at the end of the game when “redecorated” in blue and white.

Come on Albion, finish it in style!
