TV booths to tempt families at pub

wd2765253the-bradmore-arms.jpgPubs used to be places where families and couples could enjoy a night out away from the television. But those days will soon be in the past at a revamped Wolverhampton pub.

The Bradmore Arms and Hungry Horse Restaurant is creating private booths complete with their own TV as part of a £700,000 transformation. Fifty new jobs will be created under plans announced today to transform it from a traditional local.

It will be closing its doors to drinkers and diners on Monday for two months so that the refurbishment can take place.

The restaurant and bar will be expanded, a coffee shop will be created inside, and the outside smoking area will be transformed as part of the makeover.

Plasma screens will be installed outdoors, and the function room will be also be revamped ready to welcome birthday and wedding parties and to host corporate events.

The pub is to reopen with its contemporary new look on July 3.

General manager Chris Peck said: “We are expanding the restaurant and bar, adding a coffee shop, and updating the function room upstairs to enable business meetings as well as parties.

“This is resulting in an extra 50 jobs and is a major investment.”

The refurbishment of the pub, which is run by Green King, comes weeks after its sister site in Park Road, Woodsetton, reopened following a £370,000 investment. The development has come as welcome news following the demise of a string of pubs in Wolverhampton.

A number of premises have closed following a downturn in the pub trade, including the Battle of Britain in Penn, which is now being bulldozed to make way for houses.

People are currently being recruited for the new jobs in Bradmore. Anyone interested should write to Chapel Court Jobcentre, Ref Bradmore Arms, Queen Street, Wolverhampton WV1 3AF or visit www. bradmorearms.co.uk

The closing date for applications is May 23.

Please don’t it is terrible with tv screens everywhere. To find a bar that has no tv is wonderful here. Keep pubs free of the dreaded tv and the junk on it.
