Wolves midfielder Darron Gibson is set to shake off an ankle injury to declare himself fit for Sunday’s crucial Molineux clash with Plymouth.
Manager Mick McCarthy says the on-loan Manchester United man will be ready to face the Pilgrims despite limping out of Darren Wrack’s testimonial at Walsall last night.
McCarthy has begun gearing up for the season’s final match, which Wolves need to win to have a chance of claiming the final Championship play-off place.
“Darron Gibson is all right,” said McCarthy. “He just ‘rocked’ his ankle but he says he’s fine.
“Darron was only ever going to play the first half but it was important that he started the game and played.
“It was just one of things that he had to come off.”
And McCarthy believes last night’s 4-0 testimonial victory at the Banks’s Stadium has put his entire squad in good shape for Sunday’s finale to the Championship season.
A number of his squad players were given match action including Gibson, Darren Potter, Elliott Bennett, Stephen Elliott and Freddy Eastwood.
And the manager was delighted with his side’s application. He said: “The players went about it right and proper which I think is the only way you can play in a game like that.
“Testimonials are becoming rarer which is why it was a privilege to come and help out a player who’s had 10 years with one club.
“It’s thoroughly deserved. It’s just a shame it was such a wet night. He (Wrack) enjoyed the fact that we came down and played.
“The approach was right, it was important that the players who haven’t been playing played in this one.
“The first half was quite competitive.”

Lets bring on everyone elses players!
Darren ‘I’ll never play for Man Utd evern if I had a rocket up my bum’ Gibson is appalling. MM…what do you see in him?
All seriousness, Come on Boys!
just when i thought we could win the game this throws up doubt
We have one of our biggest games of the season on Saturday so why the hell are we playing this match beforehand.
I despair.
I hope Dave Edwards is fit as that will bring in a more attacking midfield, the other option is D Rosa.
We cannot go into this game with a negative midfield, Gibson or Potter.
Everything crossed for Sunday
im now at the point that even reading what mad mick says grates my nerves, wot the hell does “rockin” your ankle mean??? please leave my club now !!!
could someone point out to me who this guy is, i dont think ive ever seen him in a wolves shirt ?!?!
Gibson has added nothing to the team
any clue on henry?
will he make the playoffs?
I though when Gibson came he’d be similar in style to Carrick…..how bloody wrong was I!!
Taxi to manchester for Gibson……..
We have had put up with Gibson, Potter, Elliott & Ward and yet he will still not give Rosa a chance! He scores in every game in the reserves, not to be given a chance is a disgrace! He has not played a single game when we have had to put up with the above DROSS!!!!!!! MM is a fool!
I hope the line up is: Hennessey, Foley, Breen, Craddock, Gray, Kightly, Olofinjana, Gibson, Jarvis, Keogh & Ebanks-Blake.
I like Elokobi and Edwards but I think we should pick Gray and Gibson ahead of them. Gray has been absolutely to drawer this season. Second only to Hennessey.
I can’t see Plymouth coping with Jarvis and Kightly. Olly and Gibson just need to make sure there’s plenty of bite in midfield. Win the balls and get them out to the wingers.
4- Rosa hasn’t played one minute this year. Is he really going to throw him on for the most important match of the season??
Please can some of you stop moaning! Wait till the season has finished.
10. Yawn, did you start the Rosa fan club or something. You’ve put forward possibly the most boring argument thats doing the rounds at the moment, even worse than the Wastewood debate. Its reserve football, can you not understand that, it doesn’t count for diddly squat
Gibson aint a bad player at all! what games do u lot watch??? and who is the guy askin for henry to come back?? my life gibson is twice the player that muppet is! just because he supports wolves makes him a legend?? jog on son!
what will be will be on saturday lets just win it so SEB doesnt regret his move here cus his old club finish above him!
we would only be like derby if we went up this year anyway! we are not playing as a team atm!
WHOOPPEEE..GIBSONS BACK!!!!!!!!
QUE SERA SERA..WHATEVER WILL BE WILL BE..WE’RE GOING TO WEMBLEY..QUE SERA SERA.
LMAO!!!!
13. I know it is reserve team football but you can only play where you are picked. As I say not to be given a single chance is disgraceful & what have Elliott, Ward, Gibson & Potter done to justify selection????? These are footballers only in name!!!
Gibsons awful.
Irrespective of the Plymouth game and result, I want rid of McCarthy right now. He is destroying the club I love with his idiotice team selection and idiotic comments in the press. Roy Keane was right, McCarthy simply doesn’t have what it takes.
get Ince in now, alternatively Chris Evans. The fans will love this, together with the regular selection of the most naturally gifted finisher since Steve Bull. FREDDY EASTWOOD AUTOMATIC CHOICE
At least he is better than freddy egowood
18. Shear genius, have you got your uefa badges maybe we could chuck your name into the hat too.
All the McCarthy supporters on this site make me laugh. Can you honestly say that you have enjoyed watching our belived club play this year….?
He’s an absolute disaster and Morgan needs to be brave enough to dump him irrespective of the final outcome of this year’s campaign
That’s a blow
Would prefer to see Edwards with Oli if fit then 1 from 20 including the groundsman.
I prefer Potter to any of them. He is composed, unruffled and doesn’t give the ball away. In a match where every other Wolves player will be the opposite-flapping, panicking etc. he would be ideal. Don’t suppose many will agree but he is a good footballer.
10 newbridge wolf, you nugget you can only play and do well where your picked. We saw enough of him a couple of years agoto know he can do a better job than harry and crab. As foe Eastwood how will any of us know whether he would have done a good job because he never played him.
I tell you what, there won’t be many young players, or there clubs, wanted to come to Wolves on loan if all our support do is rip there confidence apart. I agree that Gibson has not really looked good in a Wolves shirt yet but he must have something to be where he is. Do you think that bleating on about players who are not playing and berating the ones who are time and time again actually helps??? Benjani did not score for ages for Portsmouth but there fans, who might I add deserve all the sucess in the world, still got behind him and gave him confidence to become a better player. At Liverpool, Peter Crouch was given a funny song that the fans belted out fro the Kop the moment he walked into the club, at Wolves he would have been laughed at and probably booed if he missed a chance. Been part of our fan base is so frusrating at times it drives me mad!!!!
To all those Gibson doubters, let’s not forget that he was signed in reality as an attacking midfielder to cover for Seyi’s absence in January. Had it not been for injury he could have done well over that period. He’s only filling in now as cover for the injured Karl Henry and I think’s done relatively well bearing in mind he’s been left so exposed by the under-performing Seyi. Let’s get behind the boys now, eh. One final push. I was reading some of the late great Brian Clough’s autobiography yesterday, he was explaining how before games he used to psych the players up and then praise each of them. His theory was that nobody performs if they’re in fear, they need to feel like world beaters with nothing to lose. I think some of our fans have been guilty of moaning too easily this season. The players can’t be scared to make mistakes. Not everyone is born with the mentality of the likes of Roy Keane, Steve Bull or even Michael Kightly. Some players heads will drop quicker than others, it’s human nature. Be patient. It is a young team, they will make mistakes. Let’s be the 12th man on sunday and let our performance be faultless. Up The Wolves.
“the most naturally gifted finisher since Steve Bull. FREDDY EASTWOOD AUTOMATIC CHOICE”
Ebanks Blake is the new bully not freddy averagewood LOL
just because he is good FM 2008 does’nt mean he is that good in real life.
Seriously do you go 2 games sir?
Gibson is shocking! He has made no positive contribution to our season whatsoever. Every game i see him in, hes not strong enough quick enough and everytime he gets it he goes sideways and then wants it back and goes sideways again, poor player. he should be sent back it 2 years time he will be playing in league 2. dave edwards and olly in the midfield with henry playing at right back, foley agin is nowhere near good enough hardly gets forward and is not strong enough.
PATRICK..Seriously do you go 2 games sir?
i’ve told you before about that..if a fan gives an opion it’s there right to do so. weather they go to games or not is irrelevant. if every wolves fan went to games, molineux wouldn’t be big enough to house them..neither would wembley.
my neighbour is a life long fan but hasn’t attended a game in years..but he spends hundreds of pounds a year in the club shop on stuff for him and his kids. for every fan who goes, there’s hundreds who don’t.
a fan is a fan mate..and they all have opinions just like you or i. we may not always agree with each other but that’s the beauty of free speach.
the one thing we all have in common though is.. WE ARE WOLVES THROUGH AND THROUGH.
We can forget the playoffs. Even if by some miracle we were promoted, we would only come back down again like Darby. To think of the teams who have come up from Division one and gone past us into the Premiership. Paul Ince will be at the Molineux soon with MK Dons, give us a lesson and move into the big time. It is really depressing. I am sick of the excuses. WBA in the Premiership again whilst we are stuck in this dross division. Well done Mick and the lads. What an outfit!! Don’t forget your season ticket for next years thrilling season in Drossville.
Gibson’s place in football is secure. He’s at the Mol. His mates are going to Moscow!!!!!!!!!!!!
mm gibson his nowhere near as good as potter and he,s our player has he upset your big ego aswell just go !!!!
he came off last night because he couldn’t be bothered to play in a stupid pointless testimonial against Walsall of all clubs. Fairplay, who would want to really?
nobody said henry was a legend but he is the best defensive midfielder at the club gives 1000% and brings the best out of oli and we have certainly missed him espicially against sandwell fc
23 Birdy - Have you ever seen Potter play? He is the worst midfield player at the club - much worse than Gibson (who is pants!)
‘Gibson to be fit for finale’? I don’t understand…what’s this got to do with Freddy?
Simon
id play gleeson
instead of all moaning about how crap the players are regardless if they are or not we are WOLVES FANS we should support them no matter what even more so on sat get behind the boys and u lot nite av summat 2 moan about in the prem SUPPORT THE BOYS
Hey isn’t our goal difference better than Watford’s now? Oh that didn’t count last night, did it?
I think most of us know Gibson not for us, the only thing he has going for him is his age, and hopefully we not seen him at his best, we have seen him often enough though and he has’nt impressed me. As for the Rosa thing he always gave his all, been unlucky with injuries though, seems to be fit at the moment I for one would like to know Micks reasons for his comment ” hes a model pro , but not for us!” But then I would like to know the real reason with the Freddy thing, the Jody thing, the Mc Indoe incident. It seems that Mick could rival Sir Alex ( not on a football level) as a Bully Boy manager, 1 strike an you out.
As for Sunday lets get behind the lads , an wi bit of luck Mad Mick could prove us all wrong an get us to the Promised Land, and you never know his time wi Sunderland might give us a chance.
MM must be sick that freddie scored two goals at Walsall, but he will still not pick because he is a stubborn arrogant person who never thinks he is wrong. He will pick the has been from Sunderland and Ireland.
Lets not forget with the players he has picked we have not beaten any ot the teams in the top half of the league except CP, Cardiff and Burnley. Also look at our home form and the number of goals his Golden boys have scored. Please go and lets get someone in who gives players a chance on merit not his YES men.
13: re Rosa, he is at least a Hungarian international who scored six times in Champions League matches, so it is no coincidence he can hack reserve team football - which, by the way, has been valued by such igoramuses as A. Ferguson in bringing on young players and keeping squad players match fit. It shows MM’s rigidity that he cannot vary the system to use a class player like Rosa at least on occasions.
I would get rid of gibson and henry they are both useless and so is MM.
I like Gibson, he was outstanding against Cardiff and Coventry i thought.
Plymouth wont put up much of a fight they have nothing to play for and they need everyone fit for next season. Watford are most likely to slip up as they are dier at the moment.
UP the wolves
MM, I tell you what, forget about Gibson he is hopeless. Why not try to play an attacking midfielder who ACTUALLY RUNS AT THE OPPOSITION and does not constantly pass sideways and backwards. A certain DENES ROSA….. have you even bothered to look at him in the reserves MM. Oh yes, ROSA the midfielder who scores for fun…..um….no thank you we might have a star here. Um….. MM… He does not fit in with my plans…..just like Eastwood. Both Eastwood and Rosa will leave in the summer and be successful and we will play inept boring football for another year…OR BETTER STILL GET RID OF MM and give the lads a chance to play.
29, sbba, lovely comment, absolutely spot on, changed my mind bout you!! Oh, and Guys, the game is played on sunday!! one or two of you may be sat at mol on sat wondering where the hell every1 is!!
come on the wolves lets go out in style, come on we can still do it
Brilliant Mick you play players midweek you intend to play on Sunday what a brilliant football brain you have this smells of sabotage
27 Patrick, Freddy is as bad in FM2008 as real life lol.
Ding le till I die–If you turn up on Saturday you can sweep the pavement for us–IT SUNDAY 2.00pm———Come on lads you can do it–”KEEP THE FAITH”
29#Southbank…That’s the best post I’ve seen on this site for a long, long time. Well said fella, maybe a few of the pompous prats who post their holier than thou comments on here should take note!
