Gera in plea for fans’ patience

gera22.jpgZoltan Gera’s agent today urged Albion fans to stay patient as they wait to learn the future of the promotion-winning star.

Sam Stapleton said negotations would take time as the Hungarian captain considers his options at the end of his Baggies contract.

He played down quotes attributed to Gera in the Hungarian media claiming he had ‘wanted to leave Albion’ in the past but admitted the future of the 29-year-old winger is still up the air. Stapleton said: “There is obviously going to be a lot written about Zoltan in the next month or so purely because he is coming out of contract and has done so well this season for West Brom.

“We have worked hard to keep a lot of this away from Zoltan as we wanted him to concentrate on getting promoted and winning the league.

“That job is still not finished yet so he continues to be focused on the QPR game.

“Everyone expects there to be interest from Premiership sides for Zoltan but the bottom line is that the regulations prevent us actually assessing his options at this stage.

“I know the manager is keen to get this sorted quickly as he prepares for summer business. So is Zoltan and so are we but I’m afraid because of the regulations it’s going to take a little bit longer.

“In reply to quotes taken from Hungary with regards to Zoltan ‘wanting to leave Albion a couple of times’, this has been slightly mis-translated.

“What Zoltan is saying is that he has wanted to get back into the Premiership. Zolly is very happy at West Brom, it’s become his home and he feels very much wanted there.

“If Zolly chooses to leave West Brom it will be for an established premiership side and an opportunity that cannot be missed.

“But at this stage we or Zolly cannot say for sure what is happening as we cannot properly assess his options at this time.

“I think we would all like the speculation kept at a minimum until Zolly and the rest of the lads at West Brom finish the job and show that they are indeed the best team in the Championship.”

He’ll stay. He’s even more happy than Happy.
With Prem footy next season and a new deal we should be able to keep him. Without doubt capable of delivering at the top level.

mark my words he’s going to leave us…and im dissapointed in him to say the least…

has given the fans false hope saying that if we go up he’ll stay…so we’re up now why isn’t he saying yes i’ll stay?!?!

very dissapointed in him to be honest.

He wants to stop in the premier not yoyo back into the championship with tesco.

Agreed he is capable, but I can understand why it is taking so long. He is 29 and this will be his last big payday before he retires, understandable.
He needs to make sure that he gets the right team for the next 3 years.

  6. wolveswolves said:

So if someone like Villa are interested he’ll be off. Sorry Boggies.

  7. warren said:

….but doesnt this comment just highlight the fact that agents complicate matters? Why dont they just do their business and keep shut?

  8. Happy_baggie said:

Wolveswolves - i think you are right - if Villa or another decent mid-table club comes in then he may well be off - although I think we have a good chance of becoming an established team there too - but he may take the easier option.

He has earned the right to get a move if he wants one and most baggies fans will wish him well.

Big Rich - another head hurtingly stupid comment from you I see…. I suppose all your players will be happy with championship football will they ??

You made more sense when you predicted us to lose 3-0 every week - you were always our lucky mascot !!

Unfortunately I find myself agreeing with a Dingle (6). If Villa come knocking he’ll be off.
Chance of playing in Europe will have more appeal.

I think he will leave, good luck to him. We all hope you stay Zoltan but you have earned the right do do whatever you choose after the way you have aquitted yourself this season. Whatever happens good luck to you but I really want and hope you stay.

If Gera does go I honestly think Albion will move for Kightly - he would fit the profile of a TM player and would be a decent replacement on the wing….although I hope Gera stays.

Wolves fans can post as much as they like saying he wouldn’t come - or wolves won’t sell him. Hard truth is that wolves WILL sell him for the right money - and the player WILL want to play at the top level.

why be dissapointed in him, it is clear that his career is looked after by one of his personal staff, he has never lied to us, he wanted to leave to play Prem football the other season but he never left cause there were no bids, most players would find themselves cast out in the cold but no he became a fan fave yet again, he has been tremendous in his time here and whatever he does in the future I will support him with WBA or not, he is a true professional who deserves all the credit he is due so lay off him.

Yes, thank you very much Big Rich. Will you please make similar predictions next season??

There’s bound to be gossip from now on but we’ll just have to wait and see. There’s a good chance he will stop but it depends on who comes, how much they offer and anyway, he may just decide that he wants to play in a decent footballing side where he is loved.

  15. Throstlehead said:

It doesn’t worry me if a player choses to leave. Tony Mowbray allowed all those who weren’t committed to the cause to leave last season and replaced them more quality. And Wolves fans I shouldn’t pass too many comments about Gera leaving cus if he goes Albion will be in the market for a right winger with a lot of money to spend.

  16. Richard_Baggie said:

If Villa come in for him will he be playing every week? If he stays we can offer you first team football.

The fans at Villa are not nice to players if they do not get it right in the first 2 games. Just look at Petrov hated by fans all season then played well in the last few games and they love him.

The only player i want to go to Villa is Moore

    11. happy baggie, kightly will not leave for a smaller club. he didnt go to man utd to stay at wolves after we loaned him. 12 months will change everything you’ll be down he and wolves will be up and going to albion is a step down, hes at a bigger club already. since when have albion had alot of money to spend? your not going to attract big names as your own players slate your club!

zolly is the king of sutton, why in gods name would he leave to go and be a reserve a the vile, and as for you big rich,i sense a under current of pure jealousy in your comments, but saying that it must be awfull to see your rivals doing so well everytime we have the misfortune to drop into the fizzy pop league, and rise back up like a pheonix from the ashes, just become a baggie big rich, and treat yourself to a bit of success,BOING BOING BIG RICH.

  19. Rob 9 said:

Please stay Zolly Just look at our ‘Superstars’who left last year. The grass is’nt always greener. Your Family is settled, you love the club..its not all about money!
Unless the ‘big 4′ come in you will be better off with us! You know it makes sense..lad.

  20. Romsley Baggie said:

Richard, Give Moore a chance. He had come back from a long term injury and played very little football. With a pre-season under his belt I think you will find him to be a differen’t player with the right preperation, In Mowbury we Trust!!!

Happy_Baggie, I posted the exact same comment about Kightly yesterday and this morning. If Gera does leave he would be a perfect replacement and fits the TM profile perfectly. Young, Quick, Hunger to prove himself at the top level. I would sign him tomorrow. To be honest the Wolves owe us a favour anyway after we gave them Steve Bull which effectively saved them from extinction. Was it not for that piece of business we wouldn’t be here reading all the idiotic comments from the dingles because they would all be at the Hawthorns watching us!!!!!! Mind you who would we laugh at if they wern’t here?

Its all about money.Moving to the villa wouldnt be a big step up at all. They have had one good season.Gera wouldnt be guaranteed a start and he might have a miserable time.I think he will stay…If jp pays.

    4. Big Rich Head, well thought out comment mate

  23. Southern Wolves said:

No disrespect Happy but if Wolves got an offer too good to refuse its likely to be from a top 10 club.
If Kightly were to want to leave again it would be for a top 10 club. Not a club favouirte for relegation.
Fair play on promotion by the way. The team deserve it over the season.
I would be prepared to bet any amount of money you can afford that Kightly wont join albion this or any other season if you want to put your money where your mouth is.

    Laughingwolf,

Sorry son, in all seriousness, these days, i’m really struggling to think of any possible way that Wolves could be described as a bigger club.

We’re leaving you behind in all aspects, on and off the field.

I’m now inclined to agree with Romsley, we should trust the gaffer where Luke Moore is concerned. I haven’t been slightly impressed up to yet, but hey, what do we know compared with TM ? Maybe he just needs a break, a change of luck. Then we may see the real player. I hoped and prayed he’d get a goal on Monday…zero to hero in one !

Kightly at a bigger club now…..don’t make me laugh.

    Wolves 1 seson in prem,
Albion 4 seasons in prem and counting.

    No comparison….dingle

Nobody wants to lose a decent player, but the club is always bigger than individuals. If he stays, great,if not, a quality replacement will soon help to make him a past memory.

  29. 60s Baggie said:

For goodness sake don’t keep speculating what Zoltan will do let him get on with his job at the Albion. When he’s ready he will let us know what he is going to do, we can’t do anything about it until then. He also know’s that we want him to stay. Leave it to TM and Zoltan to sort it out and just keep your fingers crossed that he stays.

  30. Southern Wolves said:

    Pope.
I didnt realise the amount of seasons in the prem determines how big the club is.
I suppose that means Wigan and Fulham are bigger than Leeds etc.
Dont really want to go over this again but your confusing good team with big club.
Remember, form is temporary and things change quickly.
Tell you one more thing. If Wolves were as good as Albion this season we wouldnt have reduced prices to sell out on promotion night.

  31. SherpaVanDiv4winners said:

I’ll just copy and paste Southern Wolves last comment…”If Wolves were as good as Albion”….Oh yes…..Realisation at last..PS. Huddersfield Town won 3 consequtive titles in the “20’s” and you wouldn’t call them a big club would you?…Wolves for pity’s sake wake up and smell the coffee…the 50’s have gone..

  32. themowbrayway said:

Laughing Wolf, I kind of admire your tenacity and (blind) faith to the Wolves cause, but you really ought to know that you are looking a right plank. I can’t think of one thing that Wolves have over Albion other than a better youth policy, and even that may change over the coming years. We have beaten you all ends up on almost every level that matters. Your club are way behind. The laugh is on you son.

  33. Southern Wolves said:

    32. You will never have the widespread fanbase that Wolves have. The 50’s may have been and gone but the following that has created(me,through my father) will live on.
Albion will never get that. I met a guy in Colchester the other day who has lived in Essex all his life. Yet he(from the 50’s) and now his 2 sons and grand sons all support the Wolves.
Right now, you have a much better team but will always be a small club.
We are a big club with a crap team.

  34. themowbrayway said:

33 - I repeat, we have beaten you all ends up. The way Albion have gone about their business is to be applauded. The way Wolves have gone about their business has been a joke for so many years it’s embarrassing.
Your club is mediocre. The greatness is in your heads.

  35. pope said:

    Southern Wolves - 30

No, you just have to reduce the price of your club to 10 pounds to sell it.

Lets set a record straight, Wolves may have a slightly bigger fan base than Albion but it is not like you have been selling out youir ground is it. So you get about 22000 and Albion 20000. Not that much differnce.

If you want to talk history i think you will find that Albions higest ever gate is bigger than Wolves. We took 42000 fans to Wembley in 93. 33000 this year. We have sold out of season tickets for next season.

Also remember it wasn’t that long ago that Wolves gates dropped to bellow 3000. Where were all you fans of the 50’s then.

Fact is that give or take a couplke of thousand there is not much differnce in the attendances of Wolve, Albion and Blues over the last 20/30 years.
