Out-of-favour striker Freddy Eastwood fears he may have played his last game for Wolves.
The £1.5m summer signing today insisted he will play regular football next season – even if it means quitting Molineux.
Eastwood scored twice in Wolves’ 4-0 victory over Walsall in Darren Wrack’s testimonial last night.
Asked whether the rare start in the rain-soaked Banks’s Stadium fixture could be his final Wolves appearance, Eastwood said: “Maybe. Summer is here and obviously I have played nowhere near enough games this season.
“Next season things have to change. Either I have to play a lot more games for Wolves or go to another club and play a lot of games for them. I am a professional footballer and that’s what I want to do.
“I don’t want to be sitting around for three quarters of the season not playing at any club. I want to play football.”
The 24-year-old has not started a game since Wolves boss Mick McCarthy pulled the plug on a proposed move to Championship rivals Coventry on the eve of transfer deadline day in January.
The Sky Blues are expected to renew their interest in the Wales international in the summer, when a Molineux exit seems increasingly likely.
Eastwood now admits it may have been better for all parties had his switch to the Ricoh Arena gone ahead.
“I would rather something had happened one way or the other,” he said. “The manager ended up keeping me here and leaving the club was never the issue because I have never wanted to leave Wolves. I have just wanted to play football.
“The manager kept faith with me here and said I had a big part to play and I respect him for that.
“But since then I haven’t played a game. That’s disappointing, but I will keep my head up and keep doing what I do.”
And he insisted he could still be a hit in the Championship – at Wolves or elsewhere. “I look at the top strikers in this league scoring 20-odd goals and that’s where I want to be,” he said.
“I have done it for the last three years at my other club and I wanted to come here and do it.”

6 - I agree with you about Craddock. He should never have been sent out on loan. Regarding Bothroyd, however, I don’t think he has been pulling up trees at Stoke. He didn’t even make the bench for their last game. He could have had an injury of course but somehow I don’t think he has fared much differently at Stoke from what he did at Wolves. Perhaps StokeWolves knows more.

The Freddy Eastwood saga is partly down to his contribution which yes, has been somewhat limited. But Mick sees the guy day in day out including training and im convinced that there is more to it than we think.
I think their has been a behind closed doors problem with him hence why hes been limited to apperances. The whole business with Coventry and the fact he hasnt even made the bench illustrates this even more.
It is crazy to think however, that all that money was wasted on a player that hardly ever figured. If Mick doesnt like his attitude then he wouldnt play irrelevant of the cost.
I must add that the times Freddy has played hes missed some glorious chances. SEB hasnt been outstanding in every match he has played but 9/10 times he will stick the ball away.
I think Mcarthy will remain at Wolves beyond this season whatever our outcome and it will be his last year if we dont get up. 3 years is more than adequate to build a team and improve where we were under hoddle. We have some bright young players and with the right balance i think wolves can be a very good side. What he cant afford to do next season is buy the amount of rubbish he has this year!

I think MM has made his decision that Freddy doesnt probably graft as much as the others when he doesnt have the ball. Had he played more games I think particularly at the start of the season I think we would be in the plays off now as he was in such good goalscoring form. Sorry disagree SEB and Keogh are not a good partnership.SEB is on fire and cant help but score. In the matches I’ve seen his all round game has been average but his striking instincts has been exemplary.
This pair would not cut it in the prem,which is where we want to be but i can see Gera, phiilps and co doing alright because they have more quality.
We have our best natural goal scorer in years at the club and were still banging on about FE. I think at times during the season it could have been possible to play Jarvis left, Freddy and SEB in the middle & move Keogh to the right, with Kites been out injured. I think if we had done this & also not sold McIndoe, instead of putting square pegs in round holes we could be much closer to promotion than we are now. MM has clearly made some stuborn, bad decisions this season that may cost us & the inquest should start Monday morning, if we don’t make the play offs. I would be in favour of giving him another season to see if he can complete the job because the club is in a healthier position since he first took the job and on a whole we are steadily progressing. I just wished he’d been the manager he was last season as it seems at times at the moment he can’t see past the end of his own nose. Fingers crossed for Sunday because the feeling at the club could completely change in the space of 90 tense minutes and with Kites getting back to fitness who knows!!!!!!

Looking at Eastwood’s contribution without the penalties, he scores roughly the same as Keogh.

The main complaint I have is what it tells you about MM’s management skills. He bought him as the key signing he was hoping for and then for reasons never explained, he dropped him! Fine. Not every buy turns out the way you hope.
Then he decides to send him out on loan…good move. He gets a chance to see if he can score goals given a decent run and even if he still doesn’t want him for Wolves, it adds to his transfer value.
Last minute…he panics! He scores for Wales and now the publicity will be bad if he scores a hatful for Coventry so we’ll pull the plug on the loan. Brilliant! The player gets even more dispirited and MM cops more flack for neither sending him out on loan nor playing him!
Of course Wolves are bigger than Eastwood and if he’s such a great striker, he’ll flourish when given a chance elsewhere.
The concern for Wolves is that it highlights the manager’s failings! Sure, give him another year but only if he can give a reasoned explanation as to why Year 2 has been so disappointing in comparison with Year 1. I, for one, would like to hear that!

Don’t have a real answer to the Freddie issue, however I’ve seen enough to know that he’s a natural footballer and certainly has lots of potential, don’t know whats gone on behind the scenes, but I would hazard a guess that MM wanted him out and was overuled, perhaps by SM, thus the fact that he has ditched him since with no real reason for not having him on the bench.

Eastwood is going to Coventry in the summer. That’s why he didn’t play v them last week. Had he played and Wolves won he would have faced playing in League 1.

Lets look at things as they are; he scored two against a ‘3rd div’ team from 10 years ago. When he has played his effort has been poor, to compare him to Bully is a disgrace. Bully would have run through stinging nettles naked to score, Eastwood would want a mower and someone to carry him. He’s lazy and his sulk against Charlton when Henry ran 50 yards to score the winner shows the sort of team player he is. He’s not our worst signing ever, but the sooner he’s gone the better.
Mick’s handling of the Freddy saga has been atrocious. Mick has showed us being a control freak is more important than match day performances and results, and that is just a little worrying. McCarthy has either failed to recognize Freddy’s ability, or has plain refused to use it. Mick should have used Freddy’s ability in the interests of the club, and whether of not they are on speaking terms shouldn’t even come in to the equation. Mick’s ‘punishment’ for Freddy has not only hurt himself, but the fans, the club & our promotion prospects. If you absolutely couldn’t get along…then loan him out…like Bothroyd, or sell him.
I’m sure if Freddy had never even existed at the Molineux, our notorious ‘boo boys’ would have been more tolerant & more supportive. Results would have been better if moral was better..How do I know?…well the endless articles by players & Moxey told us so! The Freddy saga has led to a widening rift between Mick & fans, but Mick has absolutely no intention of repairing it. His mission is to succeed HIS way, & then say I told you so in everyone’s faces, and that he’d done in spite of us, rather than with us. The latest fall guy in the fans v McCarthy v Freddy feud was Neil Collins. Bringing Collins on instead of Freddy appeared to be a pointless snub of Freddy & Freddy fans. What good did that do…did Collins appreciate being booed ‘ON’ to the pitch for his 3 minute outing, did Freddy appreciate the snub? Did casual onlookers think this was brilliant management?
Alarmingly we knew Mick would treat any dissenting players like this…when sending Roy Keane home, one of the greatest players of all time, it was clear even Keane was never a match for Mick’s pride. Alex Ferguson found a way to handle him ok, and Keane captained Man U to the treble. The best McCarthy could do with him was send him home! Draw your own conclusions.
Even with just one game left there’s still time for Freddy to get us in the play-offs.
Play him Mick…let him put 3 past Plymouth & then sell him to Coventry if you have to. What harm could it do? But you won’t, cause of your stubborn pride. A bigger man would say ‘let’s put everything behind us…it’s your last game, so make it a good one’. Surely Freddy would play his heart out to prove a point & put himself in the shop window. If he scored a couple, the crowd would go wild, echoing chants of Freddy, …Freddy…but imagine Mick’s face if he did. So I guess that’s why we’ll start with Kyle on the bench & not Freddy.

He’s nothing special, lets look at it this way. He is not going to take ebanks-blake’s place so its him or keogh.
So, Keogh is good in the air, Eastwood is not. Eastwood can shoot, Keogh cannot. Keogh and ebanks-blake are a proven pair now. Eastwood and Ebanks are not and you feel that Eastwood would not want to be in Ebank’s shaddow.
So Keogh over Eastwood any day, but he is a good 60th or 70th min sub wen legs are tired.
This season has been a write off for Freddy and having paid £1.5m it is bizarre that McCarthy has chosen to give him only 10 starts. We are Wolves not Chelsea and it is crazy to pay that kind of money and not play him. Come Sunday evening it might be the case that Wolves will miss out on the play offs by one or two goals. If Freddy had been played instead of the likes of Elliott, Ward and Kyle during the winter months then there is no doubt in my mind that Wolves would be secure in the top 6 by now and maybe even in the top two.

Glasgow wolf - your last question should have been as a striker which division will keogh SCORE 20 goals a season ? because Eastwood will in this divsion and more I think he can a job in the prem too which is where we want to be as a club..Its far easier to find a creator of chances than someone who can actually put them away regularly- any manager will tell you that. I agree with your point on his workrate though, but this is an aspect of his game that a good coach would help him improve on.
As for you other comments, Eastwood played in a free role for southend dropping back into midfield, MM was fully aware of this when he signed him to fit in his rigid 442 system. In the modern game many of the best strikers come deep to create space for attacking midfielders and to link play, like henry, messi,kuyt,tevez, rooney,owen, kanu the list is endless.
Which club did Ward get player of the month? Anyway has he since got picked to represent his country which Eastwood has done playing a free role and scoring against good oposition.Have you seen his performances or any of his goals for Wales?
How can you compare Eastwoods contribution with Keogh when Freddys kept the bench warm for 20+ games. I’ve seen Keogh in a recent under 21 fixture for Ireland and his finishing on that night was very poor for a striker.
The question to all wolves fans and MM is that are we building a team that can play in the prem or not. If so the likes of ward,elliot and Keogh will not cut it in my opinon, though Keogh has the potential to do so.SEB link up play will need to improve. Most fans think something has gone wrong between player & manager,if this is the case Eastwood has been given chances as sub to do something when he has come on and nothing has happened, compared to other players used in this way by other clubs, so his chance to prove hasn’t been taken.
Because of the calls constantly made by muppet fans on this site it has made it harder for the manager to include him in the side. Think of the e mails if he started on Sunday and by a fluke scored.
The manager is the boss, football or business and judged on results. So you will all have to wait and see how the result is intererperted by the owner of the club.

When all Keane was doing was simply stating that Irelands World Cup preparations was disastrous, something McCarthy had promised Keane in a personal talk would change.

As A Southend fan through and through I personally feel that Freddy would be one of the best signings you would have made all season. The guy has scored 60+ goals in three seasons for us. 19 of those goals coming in the Championship last season.

What is clear to us all is that there is no point the club keeping both Eastwood and McCarthy next season, one of them must go.
We also know for certain that MM has decided that Eastwood will play no part in the rest of Wolves season now so the decision for the club is clear.
If Wolves are a premier league club by the end of May then MM will stay. If we aren’t then that is the time when there is a decision to be made.

Most of us have read Roy Keanes book and will have heard other players/ex players less than complimentary opinions of Muppet so we know that players who aren’t scared to voice an opinion within the changing room don’t stand a chance. We know that in a muppet team you are a yes man or you’re out so we need to accept it till the board wise up.
The E&S have latched on to the fact that a lot of us want McMuppet out and are now going to fan the flames as much as possible because they know it will sell more papers. There’s no point getting wound up so much, it’s just a waiting game now!

Oh I have missed the intelligence that is displayed on here. Play Keogh as the attacking midfielder? WHY? To play a guy who won’t congratulate a team-mate when he busts a gut to score a winner in the dying seconds the other week? To play a striker who scored 11 goals in the CCC last season, 5 of which came from the spot? We really need a one goal in seven striker don’t we? After all SEB and Keogh are failing so badly up front. (To be fair, I DO believe that FE is the third best striker at the club, and would put him ahead of Elliott, Ward and Kyle.)
To play Keogh, Eastwood, SEB, Kightly and Jarvis, as some of you want, in the same team would be a defensive nightmare. I would stay firmly with 4-4-2, and leave Eastwood on the bench to maybe make an impact after an hour or so. The front four at the moment are playing well. Scoring two against a Walsall has-beens 11 is not reason enough to change a successful strike force.
You talk of Roy Keane as some sort of demi-god on football. Ireland didn’t miss him in that World Cup. When he has managed an international team to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, I will listen to him knocking a manager who has done so. He has spent nigh on 50 million this season on just about keeping Sunderland in the Prem. MM spent less than a quarter of that when he managed Sunderland, and you wonder that they were relegated?
As far as the Sunderland / Ireland connection, Paddy Ebanks-Blake, Wayne O’ Hennessey, Mick O’ Elokobi, Mick FitzKightly, Geordie Jarvis, Ant Olifinjana, Dec Henry, etc have all done well haven’t they? It’s a good job they all have SundIreland connections.
We have one thing to thank a lot of you for. You did earn us the prestigious Prawn Sandwich Award. You are not at all fickle though. YOU JUST LOVE TO BE NEGATIVE. In all my seasons supporting Wolves, last season was by far and away the most enjoyable. “The Muppet” as you call MM saved our team from being a third tier team again. He makes mistakes. He is not the best manager in the world. He is a good manager though. You complain that he doesn’t listen. Why should he? Would you want a manager that picked the team every week depending on the whims of the fans? He can only play eleven, and five subs. We all have our favourites, we all dislike certain players, we rate some and not others. He would need a team sheet with thirty every week.
