Albion blog: Agony and Ecstasy

Brunt celebratesThe ecstasy was when Brunt’s shot hit the back of the net; the agony was splitting my dads lip during the celebrations! writes blogger Jarrod Hill.

Sorry dad, but hey I am sure it was worth it, the game itself seemed to last an eternity and when Southampton scored against the run of play I feared the worst.

The lads showed a collective determination to get a result and against a very dogged Southampton side fighting for their lives it proved to be a nervy affair.

In Nigel Pearson, the opposition had a manager who knew everything about our team and their tactics where such that it nullified much of our attacking play, and fair play to them they deserved their point.

My head hurts this morning but as Ian Holloway puts it, “I am happier than a badger on the first day of the mating season”!!!!

The pubs before the game were rocking and the atmosphere in the ground was electric, even when Southampton scored the crowd lifted the boys quickly and the goal celebrations were mental (just ask my dad).

I thought Barnett and Clement were brilliant at the back and provided a platform for the boys to play their stuff.

We now head to QPR safe in the knowledge that promotion is in the bag and a win at Loftus Road will give us our first title since God was a boy.

It feels so good to type that sentence, and I am not sure I will have come down by the time Sunday comes round, I just cannot wait.

Amongst all the celebrations it is important to remember that by securing promotion now, it allows Tony Mowbray to begin his plans for the Premiership. It also allows the club to sort out the contractual situations of a number of players, including Gera, Phillips, Albrechsten, Bednar, and Cesar.

So let’s just wallow in the satisfaction of a job well done, we have achieved our main aim and we have done it in style. This has been the most enjoyable season in my time as a baggie fan and a win at QPR will see us crowned the Champions.

The Championship really has been an exciting league this season and with one game to go there is still so much to decide, who will win the league, who will make the play offs (good luck Wolves, a Premiership derby would be fantastic), and who will fall into division one.

Enjoy your day today, smile and be happy, and I will hopefully see some of you in the Vine on Friday, and as Kool in the Gang say “ceeeeeeelebrate good times come on”.

Just pass me the aspirin first!!!!

    Morning Jarrod

A hearty congratulations, fully deserved promotion this season. Be interesting to see what Mowbray does next season, he could well stop the yo-yoing and keep you in that division for a while.

Now to see if we can join you. Unlikely but stranger things have happened.

    Cheers

    Nath.

Jarrod I think we all had the same feeling of relief & excitement when Brunt hit the back of the net. The atmosphere last night from all areas of the ground was exceptional and made it a thouroughly good night.
Overall a very enjoyable season and I truly hope we can cap it off on Sunday with the title.

its still a good possibility mate, i only hope you can get yourselves up there via play off’s and Blues can stop up, that would give the Villa something to worry about!

I bet you was on a different planet last night, congrats, some things are more important than football, not too many though!!!
My head is banging, being 6ft 1 and stupid my poor old dad got caught between me and Worthy (who is bigger than me), he never stood a chance.
He got home and had my mom on that he had got drunk and started brawling, hes alright though, it was worth the split lip, and it aint the first time hes had one, me moms got a great right hook!!!!!

Working in London so watched the game in the Albion pub in Hackney, great atmosphere and there must have been 150 + Baggies packed in there, congratulation to the three barmaids who worked there butts off to match the beer demand and service was exceptional. Place was rocking with everyone singing and shouting, cheering the lads on. Surprising there was a good proportion of young Baggie females in there, must mention the one Baggie who sat there going wild, whilst her Leicester City boyfriend watched the screen more nervously than the rest of us. Thought that if we had scored the first goal more would have followed but you have to give credit to Southampton who played way above their League position. Gera was the star player and I hope we can keep him but we have a Manager who can find gems, no player is bigger than the club and I have confidence that anybody leaving will be replaced by a better player. Phillips was over eager to get a goal and I felt he was a yard ahead of the play whereas on another day he would have been level or a yard behind, and could/would have scored an hat trick with the opportunities that came his way. Anyway a draw has got us to the promised land and now the lads can relax and play in an enjoyable way on Sunday, which on current away form should get us the Championship. Congratulations to the Club, from the Board down to the players, the way you have played and conducted yourselves this Season makes me proud to be a Baggie.

    12. Sniffer…. if you really are a Wolves fan that has changed it’s stripes then good riddance to you and condolences to the Baggies cos at the first sight of trouble you’re gonna jump ship again. What a fan !!

Well done to the Baggies you’ve deserved it. You might just have to stay up there an extra year before we can meet again, but don’t worry, we’ll be there.

Congrats albion. Was always gonna happen really so im prepared for the banter lol. Still a confident wolf though. 3-0 on sunday, Blackpool and watford to draw… and were in the playoffs (Y).

    12. Good ridance. A real fan would never change teams never mind for the local ‘enemy’.

    Anyhoo… Well done x

CONGRATULATIONS to all at WBA on promotion!
After a shaky few weeks you have finally made it. Although Hull can mathematically pass you, they would need a miracle and they don’t happen in football.
Now what I would like to know is this - How is it that you (WBA) can achieve promotion so many times over the past few years and yet we (Wolves) with all our financial clout, our ex-international managers et al have only achieved it once?
Obviously you (WBA) know what it takes but we at Wolves ares till searching for the ‘magic formula’ except for the one occasion when it would seem we accidentally found it!
So any chance we can buy the formula from you, providing it is for sale?

Great to see all the congratulations coming in from genuine football fans. Whilst on the pitch celebrating last night i even had two calls from Villa fans saying welcome back to the prem. Let’s see all our midlands clubs back in the big time!!! If the Wolves make the play offs you will get my backing despite our long term rivalry. Would rather be playing Wolves than Stoke, Watford and Palce.

Hi everyone…. not sure if todays blogg is good or not as the little letters are all swirly and moving around - also this keyboard is VERY LOUD !!!

Don’t really know what to say - its all a bit unreal - a whole season of excitement, thrills, fantastic football, wembley, goals galore - and now this… Happy doesn’t quite cover it.

Bomber - i will be in the vine Friday for an orange squash and a square of chocolate, hope there will be a few others who may feel the need to celbrate…

I’m going now to check SKY sports to make sure i wasn’t dreaming.

It’s patience mate and a good chairman who keeps things realistic and affordable with some good decisions at the right time. Oh and an amazing chunk of luck and timing - from Megson to Mowbray, it’s a slow building process with solid foundations. We’re still not finished either. Time to tame the money grabbing prem players which is the key to success.

  35. Happy_baggie said:

I don’t know what party I was at last night, but I think Iv’e found Bomber’s dad’s pants… and they don’t look lucky to me….

Well I think Terry’s prophecy has finally come true - we went up the Mowbury way - IN STYLE - oh yes !!

  36. wbabomber said:

    Happy baggie

Thank god you found them, he has been looking all day for them. Luckily for us he decided to wear them as pants last night and not on his head, i would say bring them with you on Friday, but i think we might get a few funny looks if we enter into the boozer and exchange pants (sounds a bit like a German mating ritual).
So if you could pop them in the post:

    Boing Boing House
    The Hawthorns

    Cheers blade!!!
