Young named in team of the year

Ashley YoungVilla winger Ashley Young was named in the PFA’s Premier League team of the year at London’s Grosvenor Hotel – but Albion were the local winners in the PFA awards.

Young, who was also shortlisted for the Young Player of Year award won by Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, was named in a star-studded side in his first full season of Premier League football.

Tony Mowbray’s side had three players selected in the Championship divisional team – left-back Paul Robinson, captain and midfielder Jonathan Greening and striker Kevin Phillips.

Albion’s tally matched Stoke trio Ryan Shawcross, Liam Lawrence and Ricardo Fuller as the team with most players selected.

Robinson has been a key figure in the Baggies’ push for promotion after a £1.5m move to Wigan fell through.

Former England under 21 international Greening made the first teams at Manchester United and Middlesbrough and that quality has shone through in the Championship, where he has ran games from the middle of the park.

Eight-capped England striker Phillips was named Albion fans’ player of the year on Friday and his 24 goals this season have also put him in line for the Championship’s Golden Boot.

The Albion trio were joined by Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey, selected in his first full season of Championship football.

It was the second season in a row a Wolves keeper has made the team after Matt Murray last year.

2 - Our players aint for sale. Mr Morgan stated that last week.

His strategy is to build on what we’ve got and continue with the achievements we’ve made over the last two years. Hopefully we’ll unearth another gem like kites. I would certainly comtemplate signing Philips - if he doesn’t get his two year deal. A nice partnership with SEB? :)

Great keeper, but he needs to start to come off his line more otherwise he will be like oakes. Great shot stopper, but unable to command his box.
