Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the UK headed for Stafford’s County Showground over the weekend.
There were tailbacks on the A518 Weston Road on both Saturday and Sunday due to the large volume of people going to a classic motorcycle show. More than 30,000 people attended over the weekend.
Former world champion racers Giacomo Agostini and Kork Ballington were the guests of honour and star attractions. Italian legend Agostini opened the show and he and South African Ballington, a double world champion, gave talks on their illustrious careers and signed autographs for fans.
Agostini is the all-time record holder for victories in motorcycle GP history, winning 122 Grand Prix and 15 World Championship titles in his career, riding MV Agusta and Yamaha machines.
He retired from top level racing in 1977.
The 28th International Classic Motorcycle Show – the largest of its kind in the world – featured rare machines made by BSA including lightweight Bantams which were first made in 1948. A 1933 Vincent-HRD Model W was one of the rarest models on show on the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs’ stand.
Showgoers were also able to see a reconstruction of the twin-cylinder DOT which won the TT race in 1908.
A hovercraft, which uses a Velocette scooter engine, was one of the more unusual exhibits.
The event also included an autojumble, trade stands and an auction of classic bikes.
There was also a marquee dedicated to off-road and racing machines and a Grand Prix paddock.
