Wrack’s back for the new era

Walsall star Darren WrackDarren Wrack is delighted to be back from injury and is ready to play a part in Jimmy Mullen’s first match in charge at Huddersfield.

The long-serving midfielder has been struggling with a calf problem and has been out of the side since the 1-1 draw with Crewe on March 24.

However,  after a reserve outing in midweek, he is ready to make his comeback and aid Walsall’s current injury crisis.

“I had 60 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday night with no problems, so I’m fit and ready to play on Saturday,” Wrack said.

“I’ve had three weeks out, kicking my heels, so it’s been a frustrating time lately.”

The 31-year-old’s comeback will give caretaker boss Mullen an added boost to a squad that has been stretched in recent weeks and Wrack is looking forward to playing for the new number one.

“All the lads will be going out to give Jimmy everything they’ve got,” added Wrack. Mullen joined Saddlers a week after a dismal home defeat to Oldham left them rock bottom of League One and Wrack believes he had a big part to play in a revival that took them to the brink of the play-offs.

“He took some of the pressure off the manager and as well as looking after the young lads, his influence and personality were key in the unbeaten run we had,” said Wrack.

And he believes the mood around the club is upbeat, despite the resignation of former boss Richard Money. “After we got the initial shock of the manager leaving out of the way, the mood in the camp has been good,” Wrack said.

The Terriers will have another former Burnley boss in charge as the appointment of Stan Ternent was confirmed yesterday.

Wrack has confirmed that former Saddlers Dean Keates; Jimmy Walker; Ady Viveash; Dan Fox; Scott Dann; Martin O’Connor and former Wolves and Albion striker Don Goodman will all be playing a part in his testimonial match, which takes place on Tuesday April 29.

Tickets are available at the ground and on the gate and are priced at £10 adults and £5 children.
