A dodgy used-car dealer who sold a faulty van with clocked mileage, claiming it had only ever been used to transport flowers, has been fined £700.
Garage owner Peter Johnson told his customer the old Ford transit van had been owned by a florist.
But Johnson, aged 44, from Midhill Drive, Rowley Regis, was caught out after the van starting making noises and was taken to a garage for checks.
David Abel, prosecuting at West Bromwich Magistrates Court, said: “The vehicle had travelled in excess of 230,000 miles but the odometer read 105,000.”
The van was sold from Johnson’s former business, Rolfe Street Car Sales in Smethwick, for £2,400 in October 2006.
Records showed that the van had previously been registered to Bristol Street Motors and a company called Rayburn Plastics.
But Johnson, who pleaded guilty to two charges under the Trades Descriptions Act, said he did not realise records were incorrect. He added the van had passed two MoTs before it was sold.
He was ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to his victim and £300 costs.
