Neil Warnock has never been popular with Albion fans, but he has a chance this weekend to have all his previous sins against us washed away, writes blogger Jarrod Hill.
His Palace side go to Hull still needing points to make the play-offs, and like all other Baggie boys I hope they can get a result and we can start our celebrations early. With no game on Saturday I will be tuned in to hear how Crystal Palace gets on against the only team that can deny us automatic promotion.
Whatever happens this weekend I hope the boys are focused on Monday’s game, it is still in our own hands to win this league; four points from our last two games would guarantee us the title.
I said a few weeks ago it would be ideal if we won promotion at home against Southampton and then went to QPR in search of the title, it would be the perfect end to the perfect season.
I have enjoyed this season so much I do not want it to end, especially as our national side have failed to qualify for that major competition I cannot bring myself to mention.
I have had to muffle my pessimism this week, however with us still not guaranteed anything yet, I still find myself at times thinking the worst, come on guys you must be used to me by now??
But every time I mention the fact to any friends or family I get slapped down for even daring to consider the boys would blow it from this position, and my rational side does tell me that all will be well.
Albion and Wolves are divided in an unusual way this Saturday, with Wolves hoping Hull do them a favour and ourselves cheering Palace on, has there ever been a game not involving either team that has been so closely monitored by both sets of fans??
On a different subject, I had a conversation this week with a Villa fan who was basically suggesting the Championship has been rubbish this season and the quality of play has been poor. He then went on to challenge me to name a Championship eleven side who would survive in the Premiership, obviously I quickly retorted (with tongue placed firmly in cheek) the Baggies!!!
It did get me thinking though, and after borrowing a pen and paper from the bar, and a number of beers we came up with a team. To avoid any bias we chose a team that did not include any Albion players and did not include any Premiership players on loan to Championship sides, we then looked at it and argued about their chances in the greed league, a pointless exercise I know, but a fun one!!!
The Championship Eleven (Excluding Albion Players)
GK: Hennessey (Wolves)
Others considered, Basso (Bristol City) and Myhill (Hull)
DEF: Halford (Charlton)
Hudson (Crystal Palace)
Shittu (Watford)
Thatcher (Charlton)
Others considered, De Vos (Ipswich) and Riggot (Stoke)
MID: Howard (Barnsley)
Lawrence (Stoke)
Whittingham (Cardiff)
Kightly (Wolves)
Others considered, Ledley (Cardiff), Ambrose (Charlton) and Soares (Crystal Palace)
STRIKERS: Sylvain Ebanks Blake (Wolves)
Beattie (Sheffield United)
Others considered Haynes (Ipswich) and Fuller (Stoke)

I have to agree Jarrod, I believe the whole of the Black Country/Staffordshire (J/k) will have an ear on the Hull/Palace game and my belief is that it will be a 1-1 draw and we shall begin the party on Saturday. Hopefully also Stoke lose on Saturday which I cannot see but I will have fingers crosses because I’d love to see us pick up the Championship trophy at the Hawthorns on Monday night (if we win) especially as I’m not going to be at QPR.
On another note my season ticket is now renewed for next season with all the hope that I will be watching Premier League games.
Boing Boing and enjoy the weekend.
You guys are up anyway so Saturday’s game is irrelavant! Where as we need Hull to win to have any chance of making the play offs!
Come on you Tigers!
COME ON YOU PALACE!!! BOING BOING START THE PARTY EARLY AND THEN LET THE DINGLES START CRYING IN MOWBRAY WE TRUST
Not 100% yet, but I do hope our gloaters keep off here for a while so manic repetitive & juvenile ar’ent they: hope you win your last games you will surely.
I’m with you Jarrod, promotion still needs to be secured. It would be fantastic if Stoke fail to beat Colchester too. I am very hopeful of a party atmospher at the Hawthorns on Monday night.
Come on Palace, I have always liked that nice Mr Warnock!!!!!
Wakey baggie? Surely not another that braves the westgate wobble.
i cant really see colchester beating stoke but it is there last game at layer road so they will want to win that, you never know,as for hull- palace i hope palace win just to put the dingles out of there misery, whatever happens no way will southampton win on monday night we have shown far to much grit in the last few matches to let that happen,so just enjoy your w/e and get ready to party on monday boing boing on the pitch
i support albion through and through but all the stats see this as a wasted season for wolves, they have lots of thier players in the jarrod team, the likes of stoke ,hull and bristol city are doing well so why didnt wolves build on last season and be better placed, hope they get promotuon we always do well against them and will need every point next year..come on warnock!!!ps terry old trafford is not far from eastlands, anfield, goodison and the emirtates yipee yeye yeah !!!!!! soooooooooo happpy i hope!!!!
One thing Jarrod - if you weren’t including any Premiership players on loan to Championship clubs then how could Chris Riggott (on loan from Middlesbrough) and Greg Halford (on loan from Sunderland) make your team? I would select Sam Ricketts and Michael Turner of Hull instead of these two.
Jarrod can tell your a baggie no football knowledge, the team that would survive:
Hennesey (wlves)
Halford (charlton)
shawcross (stoke)
sodje (charlton)
capaldi (cardiff)
kightly (wolves)
ledley (cardiff)
olofinjana (wolves)
jarvis (wolves)
seb (wolves)
campbell (hull)
a young team capable of staying up.
I’m hoping for a Hull-Palace draw and Stoke and Albion wins. That way we will be promoted before we play but will have to go to QPR to win the title.
Why? Because I have had to give over my season ticket to the brother-in-law for the Southampton game as I will be in the US working. I will be back for the QPR game so it would be great to see us win the league. I missed the play-off final last year for the same reason.
Hi Jarrod, nice of you to include three of our lot, and you know I am happy to agree with you wherever possible but this game splits the Black Country. I am happy to wish you all the best for Monday but sorry, we are desparate for Hull to win this one.
On a separate theme I am puzzled. We are all so keen to reach the promised land but what will we find when we arrive? Drogba and Renaldo, the two biggest cheats in the history of football. They would never survive in “proper football”
Like others, I don’t want to go into Monday night needing a point, so I think a Hull/Palace draw would suit us and the Wulfies.
PS I’ve really enjoyed your thoughtful blogs Jarrod. They’ve provoked many interesting debates all season. Keep it up.
PPS Can’t make it on May 2nd as I’m away. Hope those that can have a great night.
So worried you have to get Hull to fail, tut tut.
Up the Wolves
I was watching sky sport news yesterday and they had an interview with Neil Clement. Even he said he is not fussed about the Hull result as he would prefer to win at home on Monday in front of your own fans! So i think all you albion fans including you Jarrod want Palace to win to stick a final nail in wolves coffin! Sad really but I have come to expect it from you lot of the years!
So much for all that b£ll£cks about wanting wolves and albion in the prem, and I can appreciate the fact that you don’t but then why say you want nothing more then both black country teams in the prem then go and write this blog, slightly hypocritical Jarrod!!!!!!!!!!! The title says it all
COME ON WOLVES, COME ON HULL!!!!!
Yep it would be great if we are up without kicking a ball in anger this weekend—still wouldn’t make me like that prat Warnock though.
I know you say you have enjoyed the season—I have enjoyed the TM way but have to admit that I also felt so frustrated at the fact that we are patently the best team in the Fizzy but its still down to the wire. I do feel we should have won this division by March—but I also think the loss of Tex aws a much bigger blow than we thought. Looking forward to see TM pitch against the best–onwards and upwards
good blog, hope you do win title but with hull winning!!!! why are the majority of your fans well wishers and likewise ours to you but there are still 1 or 2 on both sides that wish to keep sticking the knife in and twisting it, why cant they develop a bit of sense and see that both wolves and yourselves in the premier would be a huge boost for the west midlands area, some people need to grow up!
Jarrod
When you said to the Villa fan “the Baggies”
i know it was tongue in cheek,
but you`re tongue in cheek bravado is not far removed from the truth.
The promoted teams that generally fare the best,
are the ones that play with no fear, and have players of good technical ability
(remind you of anyone)
This is not just the opinion of a blinkered Baggie, but the opinion of many of the so called experts and TV pundits.
In our previous forays to the prem,
one thing that could not be levelled at us,
was we played without fear, my got it was painful most of the time,
we DID have players of technical ability,
Kanu & Koumas spring readily to mind,
but they were criminally underused.
Just a quick aside, Villa fans,
never accuse them of suffering from low self esteem cud ya ?
We’ll be doing our very best to win at Hull tomorrow - for ourselves, not for the Baggies!
However I think most Palace fans will admit that West Brom have been the best team overall this season and deserve to win the Championship title.
We hope to be there with you come the end of the season!
Greg Cooper
Sorry i bow to your superior knowledge (we had been drinking though)
laughingwolf, see the bit were we did not (intentionally) choose Prem players on loan, and then read no 9 Greg Cooper. Also, i have seen Sodje at close quarters (we had him onloan last year) he wouldnt make my team, but each to their own opinion.
Nathanwolves, Palace can draw with Hull and do us both a favour, and yes i do want to see a Black Country derby in the Prem, i love the derby games between us. Me hypocritical??
So far this season you have called me, a know it all, idiot, and now hypocritical.
We might as well get bloody married!!!
wbabamber-cooper sounds like something out Super Mario…congratulations.
Can we all come to the wedding, Tez & Worcester wil stand behind ya chuking confeti, only blew & white though, IN STYLE OF COURSE….THE MOWBURY WAY!!! boing boing
I can’t remember calling you an idiot but if I did I appologise! I stick by the other two though!
Nathanwolves, in defence of Jarrod what do you expect him to say you moron? I hope Hull win tomorrow to give the Wolves a chance to our detriment, get real mate, no-one owes you a living if you hadn’t been so poor this season you wouldn’t have to worry about scrapping in the playoffs.
Boing Boing Bye Bye
20,bomber,have you sin the things they call me,but i just put it down to jealousy, and we would love to attend the wedding,TONY they do sell blue n white confetti in the club shop boing boing going up like confetti
terry ,u really are a div sometimes but your funny with it!!! good entertainment!!
I suprised Nathan didn’t expect us to give them a point or three in our recent meeting - just to give them a chance of going up…
Come on Palace !!!!! (only because it helps us - honest)
Romsley - again you are missing the point. It’s not that Jarrod wants albion to win, i expect that and can fully appreciate that fact. It’s when he says he wants wolves in the prem with albion and then writes a blog which will not include wolves in the prem due to palace winning and effectivly (not definately) ruining our chances of that happening!
So as you put a question mark at the end of moron, no i am not, you are though!!!!!!!!!!! (hand bags, my dads bigger then your dad, it’s my ball and you can’t play).
Look i’m not posting anymore about this subject, write what you want!
Jarrod - sorry to offend if i did mate!
Wakey, Horbury - I thought I was all alone in West Yorkshire !!! (with 3 Dingle fans at work too - unbelievable). Can’t wait for Monday night. Boing Boing.
