Phillips: Walkout talk just rubbish

72395albion-12-dh-5.jpgAlbion striker Kevin Phillips has broken his silence on fresh rumours of an Albion walkout, dismissing the reports as “nonsense”.

Phillips issued a statement through the club last night hitting out at a national newspaper report that he had rejected a new contract offer.

The story claimed he had decided to leave and would join Derby or Wigan in the summer.

But Phillips’ agent, Phil Smith, told the Express & Star yesterday that the rumours were untrue.

And the Baggies’ leading scorer has now come out fighting himself to insist that talks with Albion over a new deal have not ended.

“I want to stress to the supporters that this is nonsense,” said Phillips.”I haven’t rejected a new contract and I haven’t a clue who the so-called source of the story is supposed to be.”

Smith told the Express & Star two weeks ago that talks with chairman Jeremy Peace had been put on hold after several months of negotiations.

But he stressed that discussions were due to restart in the coming weeks and Phillips insists that remains the case.

“We’ve got two massive games coming up and we’re all going to sit down after our season has finished and try to come to an agreement over the future,” said the 34-year-old hitman.

“This is what my agent told a local newspaper two weeks ago and nothing has changed since.”

Quote from Mowbray in paper today.

I’m not anticipating going out and buying to 32-year-olds who have spent their lives playing in the Premier League because I don’t think that’s the formula we look for in footballers.”

    Take note Mick Mc C

I cant see Super Kev leaving either. Ok a 2 year contract might seem too long for a man of his age and as some people on here keep commenting he might not have the same impact in the Premiership (assuming we get there) but lets be honest he would still score goals in the top flight and even if it was only 5 or 6 and they earned enough extra points for survival then he would have been worth every penny. If he goes we would need to replace him and how would that cost? surely more than an extra years wages for him. Also his experience and quality would continue to help improve those strikers around him. I think a 2 year deal with a player/coaching role for the 2nd year would be ideal. Come on JP you know it makes sense.

I heard a rumour that super kev dislikes the Wolves so much he wishes to stay in the Championship so he can carry on with his one man crusade to stop the Wolves getting promoted, he was seen this morning boarding the Crystal Palace team bus on its way to Hull!!!

a simple message to all our inbred dingle friends ?? from over the border in staffordshire …. jealousy is never a nice trait but it is one that suits you .. you are so far in our shadow you may never see the sun again … now if this is a little to complicated for you dont worry ask an albion fan to explain it to you - boing boing !!!

  22. baggiebird said:

love how all you dingles think that wolves somhow still have something over the baggies, and all this talk of how funny it will be to see them go up and come down, step back and take a look at ur diminishing club that is the laughing stock of the black country and yes dare i say it the midlands

  23. nottsbaggie said:

I’m more worried about losing Gera!

Free agent, no transfer fee to pay which means any potential club can pay a signing on fee spread over the duration of the contract.

I reckon we are going to have to pay £40k a week to keep him. I can’t see us paying anyone that sort of money.

  24. frankthegas said:

How can super Kev walk out on the best football team in the league, i think it is the dingles spreading rumors because they are jealous of loosing out to the best team in the league

  25. The Real Bully said:

If you’d have told me 18 months ago that I’d say this I’d have laughed but I’m quite happy to trust JP to sort the signings out(with a little input from TM of course.) I think KP and Zoltan will stay but at the end of the day the team/club are bigger than the individual and we’ve seen before that it gets you nowhere trying to keep players who don’t want to be here. As has already been said, if either or both go it will be with the fans good wishes and they will both always be heroes at the Hawthorns.
On the subject of snipers from up the road, 2points.
    1. It shows how well we’re doing that they need to come on here at all.
    2. The pettiness of the things they are now attacking us on shows how far they’ve fallen behind.
Having said that, I’d still like to see WBA, Wolves, Blues and Stoke in the prem next season. Good luck to us all in the name of Midlands football.

there as been interest from Everton nobody said the players wanted to go.
    completely different type of story.

The Real Bully. Well said. I fully trust JP/TM. They have proved over the last season and a half, that they know what they are doing. So should we loose any of KP/ZOLLY/KOREN its for a reason, and not for negligence.
