Injury rules Edwards out of Coventry duel

14339492.jpgUnlucky Dave Edwards misses Wolves’ vital clash at Coventry this Saturday after failing to recover from a knee injury.

The Welsh international doesn’t expect to return to training until early next week at the earliest.

But the 22-year-old midfielder expects to be fit for the final League game at home to Plymouth a week on Sunday.

Edwards was injured stretching to pass to Kevin Foley just minutes into his senior comeback against Ipswich last Saturday.

“Hopefully I’ll be back in training in the early part of next week and be ready for the Plymouth game,” he said.”I just over-extended my knee. It’s quite tender and every time I extend my leg I get a pain, so I’m not really able to train.

“I’m just doing weights and just trying to strengthen up around the knee and hoping the pain goes so I can do everything that’s needed in a game.

“It’s not too bad, just frustrating more than anything. But it’s not going to be long term.

“It’s just a case of allowing it to settle down. The medical team are happy that nothing’s torn.

“It’s a case of letting the inflammation go down to take the swelling out of it.

“I can walk without too much problem, it’s just when I put a lot of weight through the knee and stretch it, and at the end of a striking action, so it would be painful to come back now.

“If I can return to training in the early part of next week then I should be OK for the Plymouth game because I’m a relatively fit lad anyway.

“Hopefully my fitness will prove I don’t need a reserve game,” he added.

Edwards admits the knock appeared innocuous at the time.

“Usually it’s something you can run off, but for some reason it kept collapsing on me,” he said. “I was desperate to carry on because I had a point to prove, but I just couldn’t.

“I just feel unlucky because I got fit, then had to wait for my chance because we had a break.

“I worked hard in training, did my work and got my chance. I felt very good and sharper than I’d felt for a long time becausemy groin problem had gone.”
